[PERFORMACE-TIP] for low frame rate in ruff seas
I have found the best way to boost frame rate while in ruff seas is to delete
SeaFoam01.dds - SeaFoam12.dds(all 12). They are located in your 'Misc' directory.
Make sure you back them up first.:yep:
This will essentially turn of the sea foam effect, which is a good thing. The sea
foam effect is not that good anyway.
BTW, the best attempt at mimicking the sea foam effect was in the flight sim
U.S. Navy Fighters by Janes. It was a master piece for that day but what made it
work was a loop-able sequence of a real ocean wave effect. Not series of images
of beach foam that we are dealing with here.
Please NOTE: This will not delete the (very beautify done) Ship's foam

I'm gonna try this, thanks very much ZeeWolf
But, what happens when the game calls for those files and they aren't there? Won't it cause a CTD?

It's a .DDS file so it should not make a difference.
Also, the stock foam looks horrible, in the main SH4 Mods Forum, look for a mod called JakeBox's Foam, much nicer, however it is a higher resolution. Try it and see if it slows down your rig.

Thank General.
The game will not crash with the lack of an image file, this is the beauty of the
game that don't hard code (I guess:o ). But it just acts like a switch that just
turns the effect off.

Just my opinion, but getting rid of seafoam on the ocean during rough seas is like getting rid of foreplay during sex!:rotfl:Believe me when I say, I don't have a killer rig, but I still run the major mods, especially PE with no probs. Have you tried shutting down all non essential applications befor you play? I use FSautostart myself. This program shuts down all background services and programs, automaticly starts the sim for you, (I use it for all my games), defrags your memory for you, and will restart the terminated applications when you're done.
Another thing I do is keep my rig in tip top shape by regularly running Ccleaner, and defragging with Perfect Disc, especially befor I play. I would try all of the above first, befor eliminating what I consider, some realistic eyecandy:yep:

Your opinion is good, but let me apply your analogy of foreplay to the relationship
between the wind and the waves. My issues is not just with speed but with quality as
well. The first thing to note is the wind speed in the game is 0-15 meters/second
or 0-33 mph. That is not enough wind foreplay to induce this beach foam effect we
see in SH4. Now, a great part of my enjoyment in the sim is accurate mimic of the
high-seas effect and I might add with a little tweaking of the scene.dat file can
be achieved quite nicely. :sunny:
