Its the T-Class sub from GWX 2.0, I should know - I made the model, one of my first proper 3d models in fact (and im sorry to say it kinda shows) :oops:
Hopefully some one will build a better looking one in the future.
If it helps, the T-class with 10 tubes (1st group) carried 16 torpedos total, the 4 external tubes could not be reloaded, the 6 internal bow tubes had one reload each.

So that's where it came from :D I have to check but I received it from Mikhayl or Xantro I think, anyways it states in the credits file that it comes from GWX since day one that I worked on it, now I'll be able to cite you personnally.

If you look more closesly you'll notice I modified the rear tubes into amidship ones, punches holes for the bow doors, made the doors and the tubes, in the other tower (the type T model 2) I added a hatch, and a nice wheel, etc...

I think it is a pretty good mesh, thanks for making it in the first place :up:

I didn't manage to get 4 non reloadable tubes, I might try and link them to an empty rear bunker, think that's what I did with the other one (zwaardvisch), did you see it ?

It works from version 1.2 of SH4 upwards. I use it at home with the Uboot mod.

since it's based on the version 1.6.1 of the Zwaardvisch mod, this one still has the screws and stuff that need tweaking.

Or is it hardcoded that the second side has to be axis?

Btw, just read through (briefly) the T class book you had for download. No wonder they needed ten torpedo tubes with such primitive fire control!

check in upcdata\UPCUnitsData, you might need to rename the UnitParts8Triton to 9 or something if you have other subs taking that parts slot.

I only use ROW and NSM4.

ok well put simply, its nice to be asked and/or given credit where its due, You cant force people to do it, its just common courtsey at that persons discression. if someone worked hard to give you something for free, isnt that all the more reason to respect it?

Yep, it works in campaign mode.

What I'd like to do is to make a change of tower, like early 42, to get rid of the radio mast, and the new tower is already there, I used it on the Zwaardvisch.

My problem is the torpedoes : I built a mark VIII on an existing mk16 (electric that one) and although the twin speeds are built in the .sim, only one speed is available in game ???

Nice. The man did not try to take credit, but did indicate where he got the model from, GWX. I am sure that if he knew the actual name of the artist, that would have been indicated.

didn't try it yet, what I did was :

add a stern tube in the upc file
export / import chuncks of torpedo door and rename it and change its id
add a tube linked to that door in the .sim

pray Hard

removed the BMM node, created a new .dat with only the BLD node in it (the 02 door where before I used the 01... thanks Peabody :) ) imported it in the triton.dat, put it after all the other doors.
gave it the same parent id as the 02 doors in that file, gave it a new id # and saved.

I have just installed this sub and started playing a campaign based on Pearl Harbor. Everything seems to be fine with the sim.

But I can no longer select any base OTHER THAN Pearl when starting a campaign. Whenever I try to move to Manila or Brisbane in different years, the game simply CTDs (Crashes To Desktop).

I am playing SH4 1.4, which means I don't have the U-Boat missions addon. It all leaves me with the impression that the UPCs for the other bases are botched somehow. I am using the download from this thread.

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S.: The game only CTDs in 1941 and 1942 when I try to select a starting base other than Pearl Harbor, so I'm pretty sure it's the UPC files in the campaign that are botched. In 1943 and 1944 the T class is no longer available, so the game allows me to change bases freely.

P.P.S.: This is a list of other mods I am currently using (just in case, though I think it's not a conflict) - MyMenu (so I can use menumaker), ParaB's Fewer Radio Contacts, Torpedo Damage Fix and the ASW_9.0_standard mod for aircraft.

@torag : try and install the TMO patch you can find on my ff page, it has more missions, the thing is I don't think I did add the boat to the other bases, will check later tonight.

I am trying to avoid moving to Trigger Maru or Real Fleet Boat just yet. I bought the game a month or so ago and I'm still getting used to the nuances of modding it, so I don't want to rush into a major supermod.

You seem to have added the boat to the other bases, here's a short transcript of the flotillas.upc:

I'll try fixing it by myself.

Fixed it.

I just copy/pasted the Tritons Flotilla 2 entry to the third flotilla (chaging the number to 9 instead of 8 to account for more subs in the third flotilla) and copy/pasted the Gato missions from flotilla 2 itself and renumbered them to unit number 9, the Triton.

Everything seems to be working fine. If you want the files to update your download I can mail them to you.

My correction created some kind of issue with the Balao class. I can start careers fine, but when I actually try to go on patrol, the game CTDs.

So far only the Balao is showing this behavior, and it is the same either for new careers or for previously existing savegames....I'll try to correct whatever is wrong and maybe will have new files tomorrow.

P.S.: I found an interesting bug. When I enable the Truant mod the Balao class starts displaying only 5 forward tubes. Maybe this is the source of the Balao CTDs and not my modifications to the Triton files. Does the Triton model mess with the torp tubes of other subs?

Did some more testing, and it's definitely something in the original files.

For some reason the Balao is playable now, but both the Balao and the Gato start their patrols with the 5th forward torp tube empty, then if you reload and try refitting, the final 3 forward reserves do NOT get filled up.

It's probably something with the tubes that is messed up, and that is beyond my skill for the moment. I'll at least finish the modifications required for the T to show up in 43 and 44, but the issue with the Gatos and Balaos is beyond me.

Nice work, I think you have just convinced me to buy SH4 (especially since I can't get SH3 to run on my new Vista 64 bit machine).

Your work is is beyond anything I could do and I am in awe. Don't take the inof below below as criticism, just as more info available on the T-Class.

Anyway, I was doing some research and found out that the Class T Group 2 had the amidships tubes firing to the rear. The Group 1 vessels had the 10 foward firing tubes (6 reloadable). During the war, most were refitted with the single aft tube at the stern. The Group 2 ships had the amidships tubes moved aft and pointed astern. Some of the group 1 vessels also had that mod done as well.

Here are some pics:

HMS TORBAY secured to a buoy in Plymouth Sound fitted with an external stern tube, 20mm Oerliken and radar (group1 with forward firing amidships tubes).

Some good info here on the T-Class: http://home.cogeco.ca/~gchalcraft/sm/TClass.html but I got most of my info from the book Submarines of World War II published by the Naval Institue Press (1977).

One good point mentioned is that many boats of the second group were modified for employment in the Far East, by transforming several ballast tanks into fuel tanks, thereby increasing fuel load from 132 to 230 tons, and surface range from 8,000 to 11,000 miles at 10 knots. This increase in range, essential in a theatre where it took a week or more to get from base to operating area, together with increased stores capacity, enabled long patrols to be carried out: the record was achieved by Tantalus with 56 days, 40 of which were in the patrol area. Guess that would mean some kind of data file mod.

Also, I have read that the two Dutch boats were ex-HMS Talent and ex-HMS Tarn, both of the later design.

Like I said, this is not meant as criticism, just passing on more info.

I have made an 11 tubes class T : the Zwaardvisch, which had one stern tube, two amidship firing aft and eight forward tubes :

I encountered the following problem : although I was able to implement the 11 tubes, the TBT does cause CTD on that model..

Version 1.6 of that mod doesn't have the extra stern tube, thus no TBT problem but has issues which have been resolved in the 1.9.1 version.

The sub displayed here has two versions : one with the early mast, version 1.6.1, and this one 1.6.2 with masts removed. The original mesh was made by JU_88, I just modified it (tubes, doors, added stuff..).

I didn't try to add the extra stern tube on this model until the TBT crashes to desktop is resolved, although I know that some had that extra tube fitted while retaining the 10 forward tubes.

I set the range at 11000 for all boats I think, the earlier class portrayed here has a shallower diving depth due to its riveted design vs the later welded one.

Regarding the "rotating 4 tube deck mounted torpedo launcher for 360 degree targeting", the Dutch K.XIV, O.19 and O.21 classes, plus O.16 (a one-off), had a rotating twin-tube mount installed in the deck casing forward of the conning tower :D. So it's not an original idea.

Pretty much every french submarine had such a set of rotating deck tubes, mostly because apparently their torpedoes did not work properly at large gyro angles.
The drawbacks of such rotating arrays are:
- hugely complicated machinery and very heavy, creates topweight and is prone to breakdowns and damage
- fully trained, it works like a rudder and the sub will have problems keeping course

I've always wondered why the dutch used them, as generally their subs were pretty "german" in design (no suprise as german design bureaus were active there).
Also, the dutch AFAIK used the german G7A torpedo, which had no such gyro problems as the french.

Keltos, I have small drawings of the O.19 and O.21 classes- longitudinal section plus several transverse cross-sections. These two classes were very similar, the only significant difference being the larger beam of the O.19 and O.20 to accommodate the mine tubes.
The K.XIV class and O.16 differed mainly in dimensions with O.19 and O.21, but the differences were not great- a matter of a few feet in length, a few inches in beam. The real differences were in internal equipment (O.16 and the K.XIVs had 8-cylinder MAN four-stroke diesels while the O.19s and O.21s had 7-cylinder Sulzer two-strokes for instance), plus in the percentage of welding which increased in each successive class; in O.16 the percentage was 49%. And, of course, the O.19s and O.21s were originally equipped with snuivers- O.19 was the world's first submarine with what later became known as the Schnorchel, though some sources credit O.16 with being the first.
Be happy to send you the drawings I have, but check with Denis469 first- I sent him the drawings last year and he may be working on them already. Would be a shame to duplicate any effort!

As an aside, our current deputy minister for health, Jet Bussemaker, is the granddaughter of the final commander of O.16, who was killed when O.16 was sunk by a Japanese mine in December 1941.

Well, that's another great addition to the game. The only notice is that tubes' doors are a bit ugly, and rear antenna is not connected to the sub's hull. Also, when opening Museum in game menu, there's a bug with T-sub's deckgun position. But that's just all trifles in comparison with new career in T-sub! :)

As far as I tested, patch 1.6.2 solves the problem with game crashes and Balao tubes. At least I haven't encountered such problems yet...

I use it as well, but install my mod last because the torpedoes are actually english torpedoes and american ones, the two types of mark 8 and 8**, to be sure you have the latest torp mod though download it on my ff page and install last.

I am currently using Trigger Maru Overhaul for SH4 1.4. Whenever I finished loading a single mission or whatsoever, I just get CTD.

I fixed it : unrar the file and slip the new Triton.dat into the data\submarine\triton folder.

T Boat is a great effort but for the sake of accuracy, the midship tubes fired astern, there was an external tube in the casing right aft and the standard submarine torpedo of W.W.2 was the Mk 8**. Maybe someone has already pointed this out?
The provenance of this is that I was T.I. of a T Boat.

Has anyone using steam tried this mod recently?

I've been away from the game for some time and got back into a few days ago using mod version 1_7_3. Everything was fine, sub had Mark Viii torpedoes. A couple days ago when I started the game I had to wait because Steam was downloading some sort of game update. When it was finished, none of my save games would work so I had to start new. When I did I could no longer start with Mark Viii torpedoes. Just US MArk 10.
Also choosing Brisbane crashes the computer.
Any idea what the solution might be ?
