Hello.

Today here it is the new expansion for the SH4, the CA-24F made by Richi. As required by the GWX Dev Team, there is nothing from the GWX for the SH3 in it.
I have to thank Rubini for his permission to use his files, and to Neal Stevens for all his patient and kindness.

First off ...congrats on the release....I had a look through the various files and just have one very quick question...I did see that it is in Spanish { I presume } and was wondering how that would affect the game...would it change all to english etc?

Save your menu.txt file after you enable the mod add back your menu. This just makes the menus in english/missions but the rest will still be in Spanish. That's if this mod is the Spanish one? Im going by the Spanish version that was up here last week.

Those are little issues that will be resolved as time goes by and Richi starts to release new patches.

Kiwi, this version is exactly the same, but it doesn't include any of GWX's stuff. I haven't been able to test it myself, but I'm guessing that's all in Spanish too.

Is this mod in Spanish or English? If Spanish you might want to make a note of that so that us non-spanish speakers won't be upset when we find out AFTER we download it. Just a suggestion to keep things clear. Great work on the mod and keep up the great work!

Regarding english menus for the atlantic campaign, posted by Hitman:
To read all the menu texts in english again (Except the single missions briefings) you must simply -once the mod is installed- replace the file "menu.txt" located in Silent Hunter 4/Data/Menu with the one of your original english version (The one that was there before enabling the mod). Make a backup first in any case!!!!!


I tried it with the first release and it worked, but I don't know if it will work with the new version ?

The CA-24F will be in english. But you must be patient. Now, Richi is on holidays:sunny: . He had no time to do it, because he has been forced to remake the mod.

Not that many Spanish people understand English either, and yet, many games come in English... Solution? We translated SH3 ourselves (luckily, SH4 came translated from Ubi, even though the translation could have been better) the way we could with the resources we had...

Luckily for you, we'll bother to translate it into English, but, patience is a virtue... ;)

Let's make one thing clear here. Some seem to be under the impression that Spanish people are somewhere on the fringes and that a Spanish mod is somehow beyond the pale. Lets set that straight. According to Alexia, and they're not perfect but pretty darn good, here is the rank of countries represented in SUBSIM traffic.

Where is Spain compared to Great Britain? Australia? Finland? France? In all the nations of the world, Spain is #5 on SUBSIM! Yet CA-24F is the first Spanish mod to be represented here. If you add Argentina and Mexico, over 8.2% of the people in SUBSIM speak spanish (Mexican is sort of spanish:lol:, heck if they count, Brazil counts because they can understand each other). I'd say more spanish language translations of mods would be extremely appropriate.

And what's that with Switzerland as #2? What a total surprise! Where in hades are the Swiss mods???? Bring 'em on!:up:

From an American viewpoint, although the first settlement in what later became the US was French at Fort Caroline, the second, and first permanent settlement was St Augustine, Florida in 1565. The first St Augustine settlers were grandfathers and grandmothers before the settlement of Jamestown in 1607. Did I mention that they spoke Spanish?:()1:

There's a guy that spent many, many hours to bring you guys the Atlantic Campaign for free.

The translation is on its way, just wait a few days.

There are many non English speaker people out there that never complain when they download mods lacking a simple notice "English language only" on the read me.

Just enjoy it and give them the well deserved credit for their hard work.

Your suggestion is fair and it would have been better if they had just included the notice, no doubt, but all the same, we should still be grateful to Richi.

I was just amazed at the number of Spanish speaking (and Portugese, a very close relative) people were on SUBSIM and amazed that although nobody complains about the German language in the game, almost as many people whose first language is Spanish visit here and we have complaints about spanish. I just think we should support all languages that we can, while making mods able to supply the desired language.

I don't think the mods conform to that goal yet, but I think its something we could all work toward. I was shocked that the Swiss were #2. Where are our Italian mods? One of our greatest modders is Brazilian and speaks Portugese. Let's have Portugese conversions for at least the popular mods!

Back in the dark ages, when I was an outboard motor mechanic a wise man told me that just about anybody could do 90% of the job, but that last 10% was the difference between a customer who paid his money and never returned and a satisfied customer who would return for all his future work. Well, the mod can be enjoyed anyways, even if it was in chinese... you won't be able to read some stuff, but it's still playable. It's not that much of a problem, and there's no need to create a prejudice about the mod or later releases, because being initially in Spanish, people will sure think that it's gonna stay that way forever, so they get the pack, they notice, they ask, we answer, and they patiently expect a language patch, there's no need to put any drama (or a glowing panel) to the fact that it's in Spanish when it's a temporary situation.
And, the mod being made by spanish people, it's logic that the creator's first concern would be that his comrades can understand it (a concern that goes after the mod being well made, of course), just as it's understandable that a USA guy doesn't even care about his mod being in Spanish (or whatever language you choose).

I'm going to take issue with Rockin Robbins here for a moment :yep:. My Spanish is OK (Puedo defenderme en Espanol). But I'm completely lost when confronted with Portugese :shifty: . So--for me--the only real sinilarity lies in that they are both Romance Languages (which actually is regarding Roman roots and not the gift of love :hmm:).

Otherwise--I agree completely with what he's said :up:. My German is horrible but I prefer u-boats with German voices and text. After a while I begin to actually pick up a few words.

A lesson I've learned through my travels and life is never let a language stand in the way of communicating. It's amazing how well people without a common language can still communicate if they really want to.

My only question to the 24th is, ?Donde son los submarinos espanoles? ;)

Hey! Atlantic mods are great, I've got some questions though. I've looked through the posts here, and all I'm positive of is that this mod is in Spanish, ((which is cool, I don't speak it, but I'm not new to bumbling through games in languages I don't understand. :D )) But is this mod just like Operation Monsoon, only in Spanish? Can some one give me some details about it please?

Hi Mikhayl, no need to apologize, seriously.

I was just trying to let you know that the mod is great although it lacks the notice you were talking about, which, of course, should have been in.

I'm sure the translation will be released soon and the mod will be even improved. But it is already a huge step, along with Lurkers work on OM.

Don't say thanks to me, I did not participate at all, it was just Richi.

Hi again!

Now that understanding seems to have reasserted itself without any intervention from me (:up:), I have a word to the wise: as the board statistics posted here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=916029&postcount=33) by Rockin Robbins suggests, there are a lot of folks using these boards who don't use English as a first language. It might be good to keep that in mind when you read something in English that may be stated inartfully or seem vaguely insulting, since it may not be intended that way.

The use of the "smilies" such as :p, ;), etc., can help folks better understand the intent of your posts, so feel free to use them. As it is, my ability to write in languages other than English is "challenged" at best, so I would hope that others would extend to me the same patience and understanding on foreign language boards that I try to extend to non-native English speakers here.

Your blood pressure will likely stay a lot lower as a result. :)

It arranges some issues with the AA guns.

Bravo, lurkerhlb3! This is the way:up: . The CA-24F is a big work from Richi, but it is only the first step for all the subsimmers.

I'm sorry! I didn't work it out yet: It seems to me as if all 5 parts have the same contents and if I unpack it to SH4-24F the legth of about 1GB of the file is still the same even if I unpack some parts to it ?!

Put the whole in a temporary directory " Temp24F" by eg.
In this directory, extract files with a recent version of Winrar or with 7z.
You must acquire an only file SH4-24F which is directly going to relax by putting in chains the 5 parts
Extract the patch.
You can put the 2 files in MODS now, but personally I prefer correcting the mod (by applying the patch directly Data in Data from the mod).
In MODS, activated:
SH4-24F
+ The patch if you did not include it in SH4-24F
+ Pack Voices Germans?

Clean install SH4. Clean install UBoat Mission expansion pack. Clean install Atlantic Campaign new release. When entering the museum, I got CTD.

The file of units is not finalized it is a question to be seen with Ritchi from the return. It is absolutely besides to see again (to my unassuming opinion). This Mod is in fact a beta release, but which lets foresee the possibilities of a final version which will be indeed special.

Is there a chance in the future, that this Atlantic mod would be in the same class as SH3 GWX 2.1 with other popular mods?

Or another question: im interested only in German subs and i love SH3 GWX 2.1. Should i buy SH 4 just only for this Atlantic mod? Or should i stay with SH3 GWX?

Don't think anyone here is really talking about the spanish in most parts of the mod. But in the mission briefings etc..etc.. This makes it very difficult to determine what your mission actual is for many people. If the briefings were in German I would imagine there would be considerable amount of complaints like with the spanish mod has.

When i start a carrer (does not matter when and where) i have ports all over europe (rest of the world looks normal)! Not only on the coasts but on solid Land too. Maybe those ports schould be cities but i didn't check that out yet. Also there are no names on those ports on solid land.

Before i installed the mod i had RFBmod and OP Monsun with the Beta 3 for OP400 installed.

Is this a bug?

I would highly recommend a clean install and check via PM's with the modders who mods you have downloaded if they know of any conflicts. Installing a mod that extensive over another is just inviting ingame issues by the ton.;)

It was in regards about translating from one language to another. You would be better off stepping into quicksand and letting it swollow you whole. Because more people will most likely want it translated into there laungage as well. To say that would be a daughting task is a hugh understatement. ;)

I installed the mod + Patch with jgsme. Besides this mod i have the Enviromental mod (4.6; 4.7 + 4.7 patch) running.

BUGREPORT (?)

When i start a carrer (does not matter when and where) i have ports all over europe (rest of the world looks normal)! Not only on the coasts but on solid Land too. Maybe those ports schould be cities but i didn't check that out yet. Also there are no names on those ports on solid land.

Before i installed the mod i had RFBmod and OP Monsun with the Beta 3 for OP400 installed.

Is this a bug?

I would highly recommend a clean install and check via PM's with the modders who mods you have downloaded if they know of any conflicts. Installing a mod that extensive over another is just inviting ingame issues by the ton.;)

The mod implements SH3-like icons in the orders bar. I don't know if it's common to fail like that, but I don't think it is a mod's stock bug.

It features ships it shouldn't have, such as the BBs Colorado, Pennsylvania, Baltimore, CA Kent, CO Flower and may other vessels belonging to the Allies. To see all these ships flying the German flag is really weird.
So my suggestion for Richi is to revisit this part of the game and bring it in accord with history.

I think that was a pseudo-intended effect... it's a beta version, and importing all correct ships for their respective sides would have been a huge amount of time consumed, so he used the already existing ships in SH4 as placeholders.
But, not to worry, Richi's intention is to make this pack to be the coolest thing ever (or at least a decently playable SH3 port :lol: ), but things can't be done in one day, so give it time. :D

maybe he blew his depthcharges up. I just had some action where I dived from destroyers, who went on depthcharging everywhere at periscope depth. suddenly i heard a bang and then the soundbite of the screaming guys. looked at outside camera and the destroyer had no depthcharges :)

I mis Hydrophone with Type VIIB und VIIC permanent and sometimes with IXB. Also I mis DeckGun with XIB sometimes in Carriere_Modus.

Hello

I have installed and played this mod yesterday. Some issues called my attention.

1) Started in base, Kiel. The boat was a type VIIB and had a type C conning tower...
2) The already mentioned texture problem in the u-boat pens.
3) (WEIRD) crashing sounds coming from all the AI ships... But they were not crashing, just sailing... This one is really not good, how can I fix it?
4) Theres no GRID MAP in the Atlantic... Only in the Pacific...

5) I miss compatibility with TMO... Its sounds and environmental efects are really good.
6) Some textures in the command room are black

The crashing sound comes from two docked ships that were scripted side by side, but at a 90 degrees from each other, so one sits atop of the other. If you go external cam and high enough, you'll notice them not far from your uboat's starting point. You can correct them easily if you find the right file.

I d'loaded and am in my tenth patrol in the 7th Flotte. I just finished my first patrol from L'Orient after moving from Wilhelmshaven in a type VIIb(9th patrol overall). My bug is that I still have no sensor availability at all. I am still in 1940 so I wouldn't expect to have radars but I have not had any hydrophone availabilty in any refit period. I WAS able to upgrade deck guns from 88mm to 105mm and flak guns. Any info on sensor availability time frames would be greatly appreciated or a possible cause if it is a bug.

I don't think the mods conform to that goal yet, but I think its something we could all work toward. I was shocked that the Swiss were #2. Where are our Italian mods? One of our greatest modders is Brazilian and speaks Portugese. Let's have Portugese conversions for at least the popular mods!

Back in the dark ages, when I was an outboard motor mechanic a wise man told me that just about anybody could do 90% of the job, but that last 10% was the difference between a customer who paid his money and never returned and a satisfied customer who would return for all his future work. That has proved to be true in all my pursuits through life. It's not enough to serve the 90%. We need to respect the last 10%. Just my opinion, but I'm right!:yep:

I'd say more spanish language translations of mods would be extremely appropriate.

And what's that with Switzerland as #2? What a total surprise! Where in hades are the Swiss mods???? Bring 'em on!:up:

From an American viewpoint, although the first settlement in what later became the US was French at Fort Caroline, the second, and first permanent settlement was St Augustine, Florida in 1565. The first St Augustine settlers were grandfathers and grandmothers before the settlement of Jamestown in 1607. Haven't tried this mod, only tried Operation monsun.
Just wondering what the difference between this mod and the Operation monsun.

I thought operation monsun was great but I missed some more action.
Maybe it is not historically accurate, but I would like convoys to appear more frequently, and I'm wondering if maybe this mod has more convoys than monsun?

just gotta say that so far im loving this mod, great stuff!

i have been fairly lucky as far as bugs go i think, only problem i would say is of any significance, like another person pointed out earlier, im seeing a good number of naval ports in the middle of germany. but thats just a visual annoyance, i also noticed that one of the ports west of gibraltar has the name "name as appears in game" or some thing like it.

E: i just realised i dont have the map grid, all i got is the lat lon lines

The way I've seen it, the mod is still very much playable and enjoyable, even in this beta version released by Richi, with the latest patches. Of course everyone would like to see it improved, but it's still nice to play and one of the (only:cry:) two possibilities to play Atlantic in SH4.

On the other hand, I'm following the 24 Flotilla forum and I didn't notice any attempts by Richi to find a successor for his work. I'd rather say that his presence there has been rather scarce since the beginning of this year. He even withdrew the original links to his mod and it's only due to Beltza and his links that we still can enjoy this supermod.
No criticism here, I'm certain Richi has his own reasons, but maybe if he made a call and tried to find a successor somebody would have been interested.

There were internal consultations, but we had it clear that it'd be impossible to continue the way it was, that is, just with one guy... time is precious, and even more the people that have enough time to give a hand with the web's daily work, which aren't many, and the volume of work that one man in that position would have to endure, is so much that we didn't consider it for long. Anyways, if Richi manages to transfer development on his own, it'll be announced.

At this time i created five dirs, and unpack every single part to it. Later i will enable this dirs with JSGME ( like it was be a multimod)
If my brain is wasted, dont be gentle and tell me about it and gimme some tips,but if not... thats is ok.

It's not a bad approach, but you have to make sure you have enabled all parts, and that there are no conflicting packages enabled.

I'm sorry to announce that, due to Richi's personal reasons, the mod's official development has been discontinued, as for the moment, no one in the 24th has volunteered to keep on.

He's saying that he wants to join the developement. Since he has ported all the ships from Silent Hunter 3 to Silent Hunter 4

I don't see any problem understanding what he's saying there

Seems like the 1,0 En patch doesn't work. I used Generic Mod Enabler to Enable the Atlantic Campaing, then the patch. Didn't work, all hispanic gibberish.

This is what i was waiting for, but when i download i have to wait for 30 sec or so, fair enuff, but when i got to the number 5 file i have to wait for 1900 sec..is this just to screw somone over?? screw it...i dont want to play it that bad.

Which "Atlantic Mod"? There is the one stated in this thread, W_Clear's Atlantic mod and Operation Monsun by lurker. All 3 try to achieve the same thing, will probably cause conflicts with each other and it would not be recommended to try to run any of them together. (Even if your game does not crash you will probably not get any benefit from it).

Of all 3 I think you will find Operation Monsun the most complete. The other two include US warships with German flags, for example.

I'm install this Atlantic mod and put a Parche_1.0_En but it still on Spanish, only speach is in English but the text and everything else is in Spanish.
I'm enable both (Atlantic mod + Parche_1.0_En) through the JSGME 2.2.

Did I do everything all right and is it the menu and everything else should bee on English after applay the Parche_1.0_En or is it that Patch only for gameplay?

Where can I find Patch for English translation for this mod?

Sorry on my poor English but it is still better than my Spanish.:)

EDIT: I did it trough the menu.txt but message are still in Spanish. Oh well, that is something too...

Hey, i have the mod enabler (i forgot the name) and the game opens to loading screen, but it dosent continue. It just stops and says "not responding". Is there a fix or something for this?

I just recently re-installed SHIV and Pacific Wolves. Came here on the off-chance to see if anyone had created an Atlantic mod, and lo and behold, I found this thread. Great work!

Thanks also for the credit. That was a nice surprise. I'm guessing its for some of my aircraft skins that made it into GWX all those years ago, or perhaps my RCN Fiji class cruiser. Anyway, cheers very much. Still downloading the files but looking forward to firing it up and getting out on the Atlantic again.
