Hi mates,

I'm no mathematician, but is there an easy way to calculate the fuel usage from way-point A thru way-point X?

The easy part is debatable, but there's a way to approximate how much you'll have left, as long as you know the distance from waypoint A to waypoint X given that weather conditions remain approximately the same and at the current fuel usage rate (depends on speed and battery charging status).

First you need an estimate of what your range is at current rate of speed and fuel usage. If you have a button or keyboard command for that already, you're all set. If you don't, then you'll need to add one.

After you have your estimated range, take the distance from A to X and divide it by the approximate range. The result times 100 will be the estimated percentage of your current fuel level that you'll use.

For example if your estimated range is 1000 nautical miles and the distance from A to X is 500 nautical miles, it's estimated that you'll use 50 percent of your current fuel on board.

Thans for the info DT, I knew that it was not too hard. :know:

I wish there was a button for this!

Yep, it's a shame that there isn't a dynamic file in the game that has certain variables stored (and updated periodically) and a method to add commands that are really scripts to do calculations and display the results or transfer information from one device to another. This would make all sorts of things possible. Just dreaming, of course:sunny:

As far as the range thing goes, the name of the command to get the estimated range at current fuel usage rate is Report_time_to_turn . If your orders bar doesn't have one, you can add one with JimiMadrids excellent Menu Maker (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=131625). In RFB it's the second tab, 6th button. In TM, it's the 2nd tab, 7th button.

In the stock game, there is not a keyboard command associated with it, but it's command 254, if you wanted to add a keyboard shortcut for that command. In RFB and TMO it's SHIFT+G.

The menu maker is awesome. Glad I came in here and looked.

This makes me long for a "Captain's Daily Report" that would provide the captain with fuel/battery/co2 levels and usage as well as maybe sun/moon rise and set info. Maybe even range and ETA to waypoints and mission areas. Weapons loadout, crew condition. Heck I could probably think of two pages worth of stuff a good CO's report might contain.

I wish the prgrammers that work for me were into subsimming, I am pretty sure doing something like this would be much harder for me to figure out. Maybe I will run into a super mod programmer at the 2008 Subsim meeting. That would rock. I will just jump in front of some paintball shots bound for him and earn a debt of gratitude!

Most of that stuff is already in the interface.
