Playable surface ships

Hi ,
How does one actually play a "playable surfice ship"?
Do you have to make your own mission using the editor? Actually I tried that with one of the destroyers and it wouldn't let me pick it for human control.

In the mission editor the "playable ship" will be listed under subs and the "playable ship mod" has to be enabled otherwise the mission editor won't list it (since it doesn't know you have it.:lol:)
