Up and running. Let's bring their servers down!
Ebay no longer is a private selling platform, but is controlled by professional traders, it seems. Google's usability has suffered in the past two years, because too much advertizing controls the search results and, as the intorduction above mentions, too primitive metrics. The disadvantage of Microsoft's de facto monopole position for customers must not be explained. I think a healthy rival for Google would be good, like it would be good to have a second wikipedia-style online encyclopedia where not everybody can write whatever he wants and fears for PC can make it being deleted again, but must prove his professionality regarding the article's content.

This algorithm is horrific, as is the presentation of results.
I don't expect to see much more of Cuil.

Yeah, it does seem rather pathetic, Google keeps everything clean and simple (Discounting the ads), while they have the layout of one of those business sites that nobody ever visits
EDIT: ROFL, if you search for Subsim you won't even find this site

There are many search engines already out there what makes Cuil any better. And why change it when it works. Bit like why go to vista when xp works fine for you... Right? :D
Google's simple to use.

Give it some time, and check their staff list. They got key personell from Google and Wikipedia, so I assume their gang has the capability to learn and improve. Google is so huge that you cannot expect it to be beaten in the first attempt, on day one, out of the box.
One thing I already like: the massive reduction of commercial links and advert links in the results.

Another unexpected thread from you, skybird. I hav eto completely agree that competition could only help. And here I was thinking you would advocate nationalization of google:D

I prefer to use Cthuugle:
http://www.cthuugle.com/
Do you hear the pipes, Cthulhu?
They were being played by shoggoths on the shores of Carcosa
Can you hear our prayers, Cthulhu?
Deep in sunken R'lyeh waiting for the rightness of a star?
Where the Deep Ones worship Dagon, Mother Hydra in sea chambers built afar?
Chorus:
There was chanting in the air that night
The stars were right, Cthulhu!
You were dreaming of your destiny
Beneath the sea, Cthulhu!
Though the Elder Gods have cast you down
Have no regret
As the Al-Azif has prophesized, R'lyeh will rise, Cthulhu!
We are waiting O Cthulhu
Sacrificing virgins while the nightgaunts hover 'gainst the moon
Seeking power O Cthulhu
Drawing sigils in their blood and Elder Signs and other runes
They were dying drenched in madness and the eldritch vapors of a thousand dooms
(chorus)
You are sleeping Great Cthulhu
Never knowing the unspeakable things we do in your name
But don't worry Great Cthulhu
We will carry on destroying without sanity or shame
Till the universe resounds with all the sounds of lost souls shrieking out in pain
(chorus)
As the Al-Azif has prophesized, R'lyeh will rise, Cthulhu!

As already stated, it's early days, but I still find Google friendlier and easier to use.

As already stated, it's early days, but I still find Google friendlier and easier to use.Google used to be better. It used to find exactly what you want. This is before people started paying to have their names placed at the top.
This is why i am waiting for the Cuil to finially work. It will once again find things that Google has long since forgotten.
