I've seen a post or 2 asking about this. Answer was na, can't be done. Don't know why, seems easy enough with the knowledge and tools found on this board.

Well here's a shot of my new Porpoise, the USS Jolly Roger.

Using [TEC] info provided in 2 threads and Silent 3ditor (v0.9.0) it was not hard at all. First thread shows how to reuse nodes. The second is about adding flags. These guys provided very clear information IMO. Refer to these posts if you get lost.

In the flag making thread all you need is flag.dat trimmed down to 1 flag with a new image imported. No need for all those folders and files for what we are doing. After making your flag.dat remember to change the ids.

I am using a late war tower on my sub and changed Conning_P_03.dat, that is the file shown in S3D.
Import your flag data and nest the Node with all the others. Leave your .tga where it sits, yellow arrow.

The node positioning shown works great on my tower, you'll have to play around with them if your using a different tower.
No, the flag does not rotate with the wind or sub direction, sorry. The red arrow points to the block that controls flag rotation.

Hey that is great. You're the man.

Now take the next step and make a GME mod with a selection of flags.

Theres a good chap... as my British cousin would say.

Nah...I don't change my own oil either....;)

Hey, thanks for the info, msb80sc. One day, I'll be wanting to put the flag back on the PT boat (someplace where it won't get shot:D). Nice work:up:

Nice job on the conning tower art, too, m8ey:arrgh!:

Edit : BTW, did you make the flag invisible underwater?

No, didn't think about it. Now I have more work to do, gee thanks.

Sorry about that :arrgh!:I'm not even sure it's possible, but if we can make other stuff disappear underwater, I would think we could do that with a flag. After looking at the thread by Mikhayl regarding some fixes for Uboat antennas, it appears that the "invisible underwater" controller doesn't work like I thought it did. It will only make the object invisible if the object is under water and the camera isn't. So, now less work than more:D

Racerboy's SH3 flags disappear underwater, so it's certainly doable.

The post of Mikhayl's that I read about the problem in is at http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=139209&highlight=invisible+underwater

I haven't personally tried to make anything invisible underwater to test for myself, but I take Mikhayl's word for it ('cause he knows a lot more about it than I do:D). Could be one of those camera things, too, that seem to sprout up every once in a while.

Reading a little further down, it seems that, if you can trick the game into thinking the flag is a watchman, then it will go away when underwater (except when the CO2 bug appears). So....... heck if I know :rotfl:

You make sense, Mikhayl, it's just the game that sometimes makes no sense, at least to people like me with sense enough to know I have no sense trying to make sense of this nonsense:rotfl:

Now, what were we discussing, anyway?:hmm:
