I'd like my watch crew to get topside a little sooner than they do in the stock game. That is, I'd like to see them man their topside stations just as soon as the conning tower hatch breaks the surface upon surfacing. I think they're a little slow as it is.
Anyone know which file would need to be modified and the lines that would correspond to change this? Thanks.

This is activted by the depth the boat is and I also believe it is hard coded.
I'd like to replenish the oxygen when I'm able to go topside, which is a lot sooner than the crew is able to. So if they're (the crew) wired in with a hardcoded portion of the game is there a work around where I might be able to replenish the oxgen with me opening the hatch virtually?
There are times when I've snuck away from the Japanese with just the tower exposed while still a bit too close for a full surface. Doing this enables the batteries to be recharged, a faster speed, and, of course, a lower sillouette. The only thing missing is a watchcrew and a breath of fresh air for the crew.

Well the other thing that bugs me about this issue is that the crew doesn't get below fast enough for dives, either. Everyone should really be below decks the moment the dive order is given, not the moment the tower is about to go under...

I'm sure this was looked into for SH3. All that can be done is crew blinking in and blinking out. It would be nice to have them scurry below but I do not think this is possible because of the hard coding.

Why is there so much hard codeing ?
It seems to be the standard answer.
This gives me an idea for a thread. :hmm:

A little off-topic...
One of the things that is not realistically portryed in sub sims is Oxygen replenishment. It actually takes a while to fully air out a boat--get the diesels going and ventilate. For it to happen instantaneously upon surfacing (as the game does) is not factually accurate. I'd actually prefer having to be on the surface for at least a few minutes to fully air out the boat. But then, I'm a little anal about details like that ;).

as AVG said it is triggered by the subs relation to water levels so that part is probably hard coded but you might find a way to tweak the time it takes to appear or leave the deck.
i also agree that they should clear the deck the moment a submerge order is given, not after the decks are awash.

you should make a thread about it and perhaps a time delay could be made for it like you wish.
