I read on the forum that the dsrv doesnt work correctly in game. Thats kind of a letdown for me becuase i find it a quite intesting toy to play with. I also like the view of the dsrv sitting on the back of the sub. But can you acually use it to rescue downed subcrews?

actually u can only use it to crash your sub unfortunately....
Even if you manage to get the dsrv started without crashing your sub,
the dsrv will strictly surface.

yeah they were not thinking when they designed this one. They should have designed DDS into the game. SDV's were also real life scenario's in the Sub Force. Maybe next time...?

DSRV is just not finished or something. It tries to follow the target using sensors, but none of its sensors returns depth of the target, even if script clearly uses the depth. That is what makes DSRV surface right after deploying (thus cavitating and slowing down).

Another problem is that no sensor ever reports friendly contacts. So you simply can't send it to friendly sub. All around - enjoy the view, that's about all you can use it for.

what a bummer. I remember that it worked in 688i and they failed to do it right for DW? assuming there will be no more patches basicly means the dsrv is as good as useless. How come the dev,s neglect this game anyways?

Simple .. its old now and it did not sell that well and they have better work to do. Sad but software comes with no warranty.

No warranty, not after 3 years but at least we could expect a functioning product.
So many things were broken in the original release, some fixed by mods but much much more not fixable in any way except by Sonlysts themselves.
The only redeeming quality of this game is the multiplayer component and even that is "broken" with no hope of ever being fixed. :shifty:

Oh well I'll cling to DW until ComSubSim is ready.

In SC and DW there is no function for an "emergency deep". It is pathetic how long it takes to change depth.

Yeah .. there is plenty of such things .. but let's not kick this poor corpse anymore. While there is plenty missing details the game is still fun.

Absolutely, that is until you're on the receiving end of a CTD. :damn:

I hope to God that whoever is doing COMSUBSIM will have some tech advisors who were submariners. Get the friggin stuff straight please. Trim angles,an effiecient crew for those who do not want to play sonar man. Proper subroc ranging, proper test depths (HINT use Janes) they are actually pretty close. Even the guys who did scx could not figure out the test depth of an Alpha or a Permit class, not even close. The Greenling accidently went to 1800 feet without imploding. Still love scx by the way. I would not play sc without it. But I will offer any tech advise I can for a cigar and a beer.:D

Well actual specifications of the ships would be more consensus of the community .. as for the obvious bugs I hope I'll be able to fix them :88)
AS for the angles the demo has most of it already done.
As for the advisors I already consider you to be one of them :arrgh!:
