Manual targeting: confused - need step by step guide

Hi. Coming back to SH4 after a while. I really like working out the manual solutions...but a bit confused over all the manual guides etc. I need a single, good step by step manual targeting guide...preferably that involves marking on the map the distance and bearing of the targets so I first plot course..then using a whiz wheel etc. Some of the SH3 targeting guides were excellent..is there one for SH4? I have Hitman's guide and tried to follow...but the aspect ration method seems to be lacking critical data I need in the recognition manual...he says you need 'standard aspect ratio'..and that you can get it from the recognition manual (length divided by height)..but hanged if I can find any length value on the recognition manual to to this??? And then in the same tutorial. he goes on to say to get the speed, divided the length by the seconds it takes to cross the cross hair from bow to stern. Simple...yes...but where is the length of the ship in the recognbistion manual to do this??? Without the length, I'm stuffed. What gives? Have I missed something in the recognition manual?

Also another question...using RFB for SH4 1.5...my install order as best I could work out is:

Is this the right order for everything? A bit confusing to get it right with everything out there.

Finally...I can't access my observation scope...only my attack scope...the observation scope buttons are greyed out. Is there a trick to using the observation scope? How do I access it? Strange thing...it seemed to work once I surfaced...then once dived, went grey again. Wierd. Anyone seen this? Is it a bug?

Thanks in advance for help. I would really like a simple, all together, step by step, up to date guide on manual targeting...AOB calculation...speed and distance.

Tks Topo65..I've got hold of CaptScurvy's tutorial on high realism gameplay...I hope that does it.

Now...anyone else had the observation scope greyed out? Should I just reload everything? And what about te installation order I have posted? Is that OK? Grateful any comments.
