View Full Version : Renown
When reviewing some of the topics in the forum, I have spotted some comments concerning renown, and how it should be maitained at a high level. Are we required to "save" our renown for career purposes? Whatever renown I get, I turn it around and beef up my crew or ship.

You've probably seen some of the threads which debate renown etc. For my two cents I'd appreciate a mod that gets rid of renown altogether and let's you acquire new technology as it becomes available during the proper time period. For the crew members, as some others have suggested, once your existing crew members are promoted to a certain level then they should be automatically be posted and you have to select a new member from a list but not "buy" a new crew member.
My two cents.:smug:

i agree with this idea but when it comes to the crew you should be assigned a new crew member as needed but its not realistic to "buy" a new crew member nor it it likely to get a list to pick your choices from.
i could be wrong but i believe you would simply be assigned replacements as needed and not given a list to pick from, that would be done by your superiors.

I do agree with tossing renown in this issue but I think that what we these
days would call EQ would play into your success at procurement, of commands , of equipment and of crew.
Good People skills go a long way, and it is in the military heart to
reinforce success, if you had five brand new super subs and ten
kpt's would you give the new boats to the most or least productive,
if it was your decision and all other things were equal between two
candidates wouldnt you choose the one you like more naturally.
I just think so.
not really relevant but I was bored.

well yes but the way i see it, the sub capt is not generally allowed to cherry pick his crew but rather in a time of war you get whatever personel that is properly trained and available.
IMO only the admiral would assign personel and only in rare cases would the capt have a choice in the matter unless he had an objection to the person. i think he had a veto power only not the ability to say who he got assigned to his boat. sort of a you get whats available and thats it kind of thing. its not like they had loads of guys sitting on the beach wishing they had a boat to be assigned to. im sure there were some occassions where a capt got to pick his crew but i think it was too rare to be made a routine occurance in the game.

Webster makes a good point about the automatic assignment from "higher HQ" etc. I guess one of the navy members will correct me but I'm willing to bet that a skipper didn't have much influence in who he got as replacements except maybe his officers and the chiefs. Even then he probably couldn't pick specific people but could suggest to his chain of command his preference for a particular officer. Whether HQ would take his suggestion or not would be another matter,LOL.
Perhaps if there's SH4 Commander this type of tweak may be incorporated.;)
