View Full Version : Damn "Enter" Button
In AOD pressing the "Enter" button sets time compression to 1x. In SH3 it launches torpedoes. I often find myself firing random torpedoes around the Atlantic.
I was running SH3 at 1600x1200 with the high res hack, stretched a bit to fit my 1920x1200 monitor since SH3 doesn't do widescreen. When I got my 42" 1920x1080 hdtv the slightly different amount of screen stretching placed the mouse cursor directly over the fire torpedo button when I clicked out of the periscope -- which I found out by launching a very expensive Zaukonig into the clear blue sea. There was no way to get out of the periscope without launching, so I had to scale back to 1280x1024 (the only other res the game would run without crashing) so that the cursor would appear in a different spot.

It also happened to me several times back in stock sh3, but now in GWX you have to press ctrl+enter to launch a fish.
In here somewhere is a mod called "Set Key" yyou can try it out maybe it can help out.

I spent weeks doing that when I first started but I called it "attacking".

Just put it down to a really keen Kaleun http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/whistle.gif
Bernards favorite button :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
He has to work harder in GWX

perhaps try to set the auto_open Torpedo=1 (default) in 0 in the minitweaker's _sim.txt file for your boat. In that way you must open the torpedo tube manually first before the shot, without it it's impossible to shoot.

You can use SH3 SetKeys.exe to change or delete the enter function, if that is what you want. You can change it to be another key or change it to 'ctrl+enter', or anything else you want. (You can also edit your commands_en.cfg and/or commands_de.cfg files manually to do this.)
For my own game, I swapped the 'Number-Pad Enter' key with the 'Backspace' key function. When I hit 'enter' my game pauses and when I hit it again, I'm back at 1x. It's a great way to get out of time-compression or just to pause the game when the wife comes in to bother me when I am right in the middle of my attack run. :ping: Obviously, I use the 'backspace' key to fire my torps.

i'd go with the setkeys option it's a great little program..

Kraut; Try doing what I did. A small flat tip screw driver can solve your problems.
Just pop the secondary enter/return key off your keyboard.

For me, that's a little bit extreme!
Just install Setkeys or download GWX: the enter key setting here is for reducing T/C to x1.

That's a really good tip. RFB for SH4 1.4 changed the key to Ctrl+Enter which is really hard to hit on accident. Any single key will be accidentally pressed but a key combination is nearly impossible.
Another trick I learned in SH3 days was to line up a forward facing tube with a manual rear short or vice versa. Basically the gyro angle is impossible and even if you hit launch it won't saying "gyro is not possible." Try setting up a "180 gyro" solution and you don't have to worry about accidentally firing.

No way to get out of periscope view? How about pressing F2 or some other view change key?

Ouch! I too have made that mistake, but since running GWX I haven't had a problem with that little button!:)

Ahh yes..the enter button....my biggest enemy on the keyboard! I find myself..pressing this button and wouldn't notice a thing.. When I..approach a convoy however, "Herr Kaleun there are no more torpedoes!", Bernard is not only on the U-boat..

Don't worry about accidental torpedo launches, it happened to the real U-boat crew too. On one occasion (I believe it was the U-99 commanded by Otto Kretschmer) a torpedoman lost his balance and fell on the release handle resulting into a launch. Kretschmer (who was known to lose his temper quite quickly when confronted with what he called incompetence) was furious at first untill he noticed that this accidental torpedo had actually hit a ship inside the convoy. Speaking of luck.
