View Full Version : New U-boat Interior Sound

Lo all

i was getting a little bored of the quiet sub-interior sound during my long patrols.

i was thinking a u-boat..being so small ..would bounce internal sound through the boat (engines for instance) so...

i decided to make my own using various other sound files out there and have been using this for a while.

this interior gives the sub a mutch more " industrial" sound. by that i mean a steady louder "humm" going on in the background....to simulate the engines and general noise. ive added some creaks, background talking (occasionaly), and general movement sounds around the boat.

the constant sound though.... is the background "hum". its in my imagination a more mechanical feel to the boat....its certainly more busier than the default sound.

ive also added a dive sequence sound.
its not mutch different to any other..just a mix of a few i like.

only prob is the interor sound is around 50mb...as its 8mins long... so if your happy with yours then why bother.

secondly..if you do try it...please make a backup of your sh3/data/sound/submarineinterior.wav
/dive sequence.wav

i say this as i think some kaleuns may find it infuriating!!!!..it may not be their thing!!!

it was guys like Sailor steve-Phil Thomsen-and Reece that got me looking at the sound side of things..so a big thank you to them!!!

its not a mod...so these arent credits...just a big thanks to their work...salute!!

p.s hopefully ive set it up so its jsgme ready.

please make a backup of your two files.

if anyones got an idea to expand on it then im happy as a pig in S***

im no sound modder..there may be hiccups:rock:

look for interior and sound.rar at the link below

:ping: Very nice. I remember how they added different sounds for Silent Hunter II, and it was a major improvement over the stock SH2's "lonely" interior. Will download.

Hey von Halley,

I think your sound mods are very well done. The amb_interior mod is great on the surface. It is just what I'd expect it to sound like. But here is my problem, I wish there were an amb_interior for surfaced and a separate abm_interior for submerged. Because, all amb_interior mods to date (including stock) are too load and noisey for a submerged submarine, in my hubble opinion. Electric motors would have a mild huming sound for the background without the prop noise; much quiter than on the surface. Therefore, I'm going back to a completely silent amb_interior mod.

Now, your dive sequence is also great and I plan to continue to use it. Love it.

Nice sounds Von Hally.

I kinda agree with Zelda on the ambient clip being a tad to loud, but it's certainly not over the top. In fact, it is probably pretty realistic in the fact that any vessel made out of metal is going to reverberate sound waves... dropping an empty soda can for instance. I'm definately gonna use this.

glad you think its ok guys.

it would be great to have 2 seperate interior sounds.

by the way for anyone thinking its a little too loud.

if you find the file in sh3/data/sound/amb_subinterior.wav...right click on it and go to the 'recorder" option.

when in recorder programme..one of the tabs allows you to reduce the sound by say 25%.

save .....and a quieter sound!!

I checked to see if I had the file, and I checked Plissken's site to see if he had it, and I checked to see if we already had it at Subsim Downloads. In all three cases the answer was "No". I do have an Ambient Submarine Interior file which has always been my own favorite. I don't think it's von Hally's because he mentioned eight minutes and this one is ten minutes long. Still, here it is so you can see if it fits your needs.
