This is Hawaii, but it seems to be same problem where I am.

How about ya'll ... any difference?

Even before the fuel run-up, U.S. Department of Agriculture figures for the second half of 2007 showed that in Hawaii it cost about $300 a month more to feed a family of four a very modest diet than it did a family on the mainland.

That hits families like the Garsos of Lahaina hard. Lahela Garso and husband Keoni have two girls, 6 and 6 months, and are taking care of two nephews. She does a jumbo shopping trip about every six weeks at a big-box store.

"Our last bill was $550. Before that, we'd never gone past $400. I couldn't believe it. I'm like, 'Are you sure?' It's like paying rent! Just for food!"

Two gallons of milk runs $10.00
One loaf of bread runs $3.49

So how bad is it in your area?

Haven't seen major rises here yet, but they're on the way. The strange part is that we're not seeing a shift towards high gas/food prices, but a return from low prices.

You really did not note it earlier...? Are you living in a bunker? It's going up since over a year - practically worldwide!

Yes, I have seen it. but knew it was coming and stocked up to offset it. The economy in America has been attacked on purpose. Corruption in Government along with Globalization views of politicians. The Constitutional party will seek to to make amendments that will hopefully do away with the organized criminals. But that is going to take a while and hopefully we will survive it. My advise is buy in quantity when stuff is on sale. It is gonna be a long ride till it is over.

Food price on the rise... You should have noticed that earlier, no offense

Biofuel, as mentioned, is a cause.

The economy in America has been attacked on purpose.

I don't think USA is attacked on purpose --- many poor countries suffer much more then USA. However, if USA over-depends on other countries in terms of import, she could be hit hard. Take oil as an example --- if USA / Israel attacks Iran and Iran stops trading oil with USA, and attack all USA / Kuwait flagged tankers, USA oil price might shoot up to USD$200 a barrel.

Here in the South West, I'm noticing. If you eat super healthy all the time like me, you'll notice the kick in the arse more than most it seems.

Bio-fuel is far from the only non-food crop and certainly not the most abundant.
More land is devoted to production of beer and other alcoholic drinks
than to bio-fuel.
And then there is game land, luxury crops, wildlife preserves, forestries etc. etc.

An then there is the effect bio-fuel has on oil prices to counter and food rise.

Think you are wrong there.

The switch from food farming to fuel farming has done a lot of damage. And it does not take a rocket scientist to figure that out. the worldbank with its assessement is not early, but late.

And biofuel is not having enough market shares to compensate for oil prices. With the exception of states like Brazil and Sweden maybe, the whole idea of biofuel saving the oil-dependant industry and technology is a nonbrainer from A to Z. the technology itself has become the problem. what is needed is a new industrial revolution, and a massive adjustement (=toning down) of our living and consummation styles. we simply take more than what the earth can reproduce, and pollute more than what the earth can clean, and live beyond our standards. THESE are the basic problems. every industrial growth and economical boost, leading to even more of what we already have in excess, and making more people in the world live by western industrial standards, is no solution to our problems, but aggrevates the existing ones.

But why worrying, since the bills must be payed by the later generations.

When i say attacked I do not mean from without but from within. A system that allows special interest to pervade is not a system that serves the people. :yep:

On what point do you think I am wrong?
I did not say that bio-fuel was not a factor in rising food prices.

I was just pointing out that it is one of very many non-food, non-essential
uses of potential farmland.
You could cut food prices by cutting down bio-fuel production, but equally you
could cut food prices by cutting down on luxery land use as listed above.

Possible I understood you wrong, Letum. Trouble with "abundant" - wrong translation over here. I was referring to that it is wrong to assume that biofuel has not had a massive distorting effect on food prices and has been the main factor in letting nthem explode in the past 1.5-2 years, and that biofuel is not a good choice to counter energy, food and climate issues. If you did not mean anything of this, then it has been my fault, sorry then. But if you meant any of this, all hell's fire shall fall upon you.

Geetrue, I take it you don't do the shopping in your household.

Seriously, food prices have been rising significantly over the last year. Not all food commodities mind you but rather the essentials such as bread, rice, and milk to name a few. The prices on cars, tv's and the like have come down while the essential food items have risen. Perhaps I should change my diet to large widescreen LCD tv's? ;)

I do the shopping, because I am single ... I like a little Hazelnut cream in my coffee too every morning ...

I was paying $3.00 on sale and maybe $4.00 when not on sale. I just paid $5.39 this morning, even hot dogs are over $5.00 for hebrew national all beef franks.

Naugh I noticed the prices going up ... I wanted to know if this international community had noticed.

Seems they have ... thank you kindly

I think the US has enough land set aside for feeding our population. We don't need to be plowing under more of it.

I think this falls under the heading of "DUHHH!".

Having traveled to Hawaii in the past, it has always been more expensive, and this goes back to 1989. The thing about Hawaii is, its an island. An island that imports most of the food consumed by the populance. Back in 1989, a $10 meal at a Sizzler in PA was a $17 dollar meal in Hawaii.

If you really want to compare how food prices have climbed. Just look at what you're paying now vs. what you were paying then.
