Hi Mates!
Is there a way to default the "command room view" to a view looking at the stategic map when clicking the "command room" button?

If I understand the files correctly, it can be done. You would have to relocate and rerotate the node in the command rooms .dat that is associated with the interior fore camera. This would have to be done separately in each subs command room .dat file.
Edit : In looking at/playing around with it, some work would probably need to be done to the cameras.dat file also.

Thanks Digital....but it is way above my capabilities.
It would be nice to be looking at the map when the button was pressed.
Anyone else want to give it a try? :hmm:

I don't mind taking a stab at it (got most of it worked out last night). The only problem I see is that those control room files are modded by TM and RFB both, so there would have to be 3 versions right off the bat (not counting any differences in the cameras.dat if any changes are necessary in it).
Do you use any particular large mod, or strictly stock?
If I'm not mistaken, the same map that is displayed on the captain's table is also displayed at the navigator's station, which can be accessed by either keyboard command or a control bar button with no .dat file changes necessary. You could modify your orders bar to go to the navigator's station instead of the interior fore camera and accomplish the same effect with a minimum of effort.
Let me finish my caffeine infusion for the morning and I'll verify that the same map is displayed at the nav station and that the stock game has the navigator's view already set up.
Edit : Yep, same map, but the stock camera file doesn't have the navigator's view set up. More investigating.
