New to this game, but after all these l-o-n-g hours playing it, would like to retexture the menu HUD and how the crew roster is displayed.
Questions are:
Can this just be done with just replacing the textures?
What's the name of the textures for the HUD and crew roster (some are obvious, but the HUD background image name isn't [chief item to retexture!])?
Resolution limits? Can I scale 512x256 to 1024x512 if need be?
Can use .dds instead of .tga and vice versa?Thanks!

1. Yes (as long as no mod has changed which texture is called for in the 1024_768_menu.ini file)
2. For American HUD, look in the blahblahblah\Data\Menu\Skins\American\Gui\Layout folder and you'll find the files you need to look at for the crew management and HUD. For the German, just substitute German for American in the above.
3. Don't know, but there's always the "try it and see" approach.
4. If the menu.ini calls for either of those formats and doesn't find what is specifically called for, it looks for the other format. Unless you want to go messing around with the menu.ini (not a lot of fun unless you enjoy pulling your hair out:rotfl:), it would probably be best to stick to whatever format the file is in to begin with (.dds in the case of these textures)
You might want to pick up XnView ( http://pagesperso-orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enhome.html ), too (if you haven't already). It's an excellent viewer for many graphics formats (including DDS and TGA). When you feel like checking out what a texture in the game is for, just pick it up and drop it on the XnView shortcut and it'll display the texture for you:up:
