Hello all, ive been a lurker for about 5 years, having numerous accounts to post one liners and then dissapear and forget my password etc.

Anyway, me and a friend want to play Dangerous waters in multiplayer. So we tried doing it through the game, and no matter who hosts, it never shows up under sessions.

Then we tried with X-Fire. When i host (ive got xp, hes got vista), he can see that im plaing DW, but he cant join. Join button is greyed out. When he hosts, i cant see that he is playing, in Xfire.

Not too sure what else to try, would appreciate any suggestions or solutions

Hello all, ive been a lurker for about 5 years
You perv! :p :p

My educated GUESS is as follows:

Either one or both you behind a router?

I am only familiar with LinkSys routers.

You need to "expose" the host PC in the DMZ setting within the router.
For example your PC is assigned the IP address of 192.168.1.100.

I ASSUME you know how to enter your router.

You need to enter your router settings and look for a tab called DMZ/Gaming.

It allows you to "enable" people on the Internet to "see" your PC within a game, then the game should work.

So you enter "100" for the PCs IP and click "ENABLE" on the DMZ/Gaming table. Don't forget to press "SAVE CHANGES" at the bottom.

Do >>>NOT<<< screw around with port forwarding.

You for sure have a firewall/and/or a router issue at BOTH ends - yours or his. Once you guys work out the "expose" part of your firewall[s], you are good to go. Just need to solve it at ONE end [the host PC] and your friend should be able to join.

Depending on the Anti Virus software you are running - for example Norton Anti Virus - you MIGHT have to ALT-TAB out of the game and answer the question "Always permit connections" for the game to FINALLY get it to work.

Xfire is NOT going to solve this problem, but I HIGHLY recommend you and your friend BOTH use it at the SAME time if you BOTH have microphones. Allows you to talk for "FREE" and not go nuts trying different things over a telephone line. Have your friend join in a text chat. Then Click on the "thingy" that looks like an old fashion telephone. Answer the call and start talking.

I wish you .... Good luck, then start sinking them s.o.b.'s

Thanks for your speedy reply.

Well we are both in the same place so communication is not a problem. Im on a mobile broadband connection (the thing with the dongel), and my bud connects through a router. I will check out what you said when i see him next. I sure hope we can get it working, seems like a really good game to play against others. Will let you know how it goes!

You should also check this:

Besides from general problems with connecting each computer, DW has this "adapter.txt-thing"....can cause a lot of trouble sometimes.
Besides xFire you could try direct-IP.
