I have this ongoing problem with 2 laptops. One an HP the other a Toshiba. Both loaded with Vista (sucks). Neither EA nor the manufactuerers have been able to help. So I am seeing if any one else has had an issue like this. I load the the games and choose NOT to have the speech recognition installed. All is fine until I pause or exit the game. Then a prompt comes up for me to activate microsofts speech recognition everytime. I have the "speech" selection in the game set to off. This does not happen with XP at all. The problem with vista is that the speech engine is part of Vista itself and cannot be removed. XP it can. having this same issue with 2 different laptops seems that it is a problem that is not just a bug with one of them. Anyone else have this happen with Vista?

I dont have vista, but have you tried to set the sub command executable compatibility to either window 98/Me or window XP, if such option exist like it is existing on window XP ?

Maybe if the Os emulate 98/XP for Sub Command, it will not try to make any call to the speech engine built in vista ?

I have thought of that, I will give it a shot. When I travel I like to have these games with me. Thanks

I have the exact same issue....strange one at that.

I've tried running in compatability modes with no success.

(I dont think those modes do crap....simply window dressing)

Did you ever get an solution to this.

Its not a horrible bug, but semi annoying.

I found this on some board , maybe it could be of some use for you :
Start > Control panel > Speech Recognition Options > Advanced speech options(top left hand side) > under 'User Settings' un-tick 'Run speech recognition at startup'

And while you are at the speech recognition options, see if there are other options to prevent it with interfering with any programs.

Yep, I have tried it all, and the damn thing keeps coming back. So, I have decided when I travel, I will just run SH3, which does OK on the laptops. Thanks Microsoft for another piece of garbage!

Hmmmm....seems to be a persistant problem no matter what.

I rarely need to go intot ht options screen, but occasionally I like to let the sonar crew make the initial contact, and then I'll process it manually myself.
