Could someone post the link to a list of IJN crew names ? I know someone posted such a list of the crew of the I 400 a while back, and Zaza did the same but I don't have them anymore and I'd like to improve the I boat add-on.

thanks
k

Google rules!:D

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Underworld/1701/sengoku_jap_names.htm

Any Japanese names can be easily combined with the help of this list.

Please remember that family names should always precede 'personal' names e.g. Yamomoto Isoroku not vice versa.

Progress is being made.

Surnames are in and working. I will finish with the Names later on in the AM, for now, I need some sleep.

When all is said and done the will be 330+ of each Surname and Name. Yes, that is 330+ Surnames and 330+ Names.

Pretty good, pretty good. I'm still stuck with the two first names and the middle initial. I'm going to take AVGWarhawk's advice and PM LukeFF within the next two days. However while digging thru all the SHIV files looking for solutions. I came across the rank file. So I implemented a modified Japanese rank system. But, the German and Japanese ranks are slightly different, I had to add a veteran Nito-Heiso and veteran Itto-Heiso as part of the Jr. and Sr. NCOs since the Japanese did not have as many levels in their NCO ranks. Also, I am progressing on implementing Japanese style rank badges in the Sub Management screen. The first few seaman ranks are in. The rest are coming.....SO NO MORE STINKING GERMAN BADGES!

Did you check my last mod ? I got some crew in the Jyunsen B tower and a new uv map as well, it doesn't look as ugly as before ;) will try and get a driver later on.

I'm gonna work some on the different loading screens this week, I'm tired of seeing german subs where we could see I boats !

Imperial Japanese Life Saving At Sea in Gold Cased Medal This is a very rarely encountered medal.
This is a very finely crafted deep enameled medal with a translucent blue enamel and gilded lifeboat bow center with white enamel life ring on an unfouled anchor.

WWII Japanese Submariner Qualification Badge
This is a two-piece silver on painted copper badge. There is some slight wear to the high portions of the paint and on the back and on the flat pin.
It measures 37mm (1-1/2 inches) in diameter. That's 38mm wide and 36mm high.

Imperial Japanese 3-3/4 inch diameter profusely marked compass.
This is a very well-made lacquered wood hand lettered compass with a suspended needle used to indicate north. The compass is completely functional.
It measures approximately 3/4 inches thick, with the central compass portion measuring 7/8 inches in diameter.

Those are some nice finds!

Sorry, I have not being playing at all since I restarted the working on the names project. I have you mods downloaded and installed in JSGME, but have not played recently. I've been mostly researching Japanese rank and badges. It was a tough system to follow. With several sources saying one thing and several others saying different. Different ranks, different spellings, and on top of that the system was changed shortly after WW2 began. Sources would have some ranks, but not others...It was a mess...I finally nailed down a system, I believe to be near historically correct. or at least one I am comfortable with.

When I first started this project, I too, had been looking at medals. But I put that on the very back burner for several reasons. 1. A genuine lack of information concerning awards going to naval personnel. This seems to be that the just did not get them. Zenji Orita made mention of recieving, IIRC, the Order of Merit 1st and 2nd Class and a ceremonial sword, but that was towards the end of the war. Tameichi Hara, I don't recall even mentioning any medal in his book "Japanese Destroyer Captain." Even Saburo Sakai had little to show for his tremendous effort. 2. A lack of any real specifics on what it took to earn said medals. However, I have no doubt that something can and will be worked out!

you'll need to add a txt file in your mod with the rank equivalent, otherwise people <will get lost..

Rank equivalents will be included in a Read Me file.

It is complete and I am testing now.

Known problems are the middle initial and two first names. This is hard coded and cannot be adjusted.

Possible changes
Adjust Japanese Rank structure - I am not thrilled with the idea of my officers consisting of Midshipman, Warrant Officer, and Ensign.
