So before I was sortof "dragging my toe" in the great sea of sub simming if you will. Played a couple hours in SH3 and then bought SH4. I have a great rig, so at first the immersion was spectacular (all on vanilla game).

I'm a pilot by trade, so when I do have free time on the CPU its usually for flight simming. Unfortunetly my 15 week beagle pup chewed through my $179 trackIR4 cable, and i can't even bring myself to switch on a magneto without my beloved head tracking.

Suffice to say, in the last week I dove right back into subsimming. I found myself constantly hitting "+" on the time scale however. Vanilla didn't cut it anymore. About a week ago I started my first foray into modding, and just as in my flight sim, it has opened a whole new obsession. I'm much more into the realism side of things now, and have learned a bit about what went on under the sea in the 40's.

I couldn't get JSGME to work right. I installed it where it said, and it found the mods in the mods folder, but after I moved them to the other side there was no change in the game! Frustrating! Ended up just copying the files over and BAM!! NEW SIM! amazing work in these two mods.

after installing everything and playing a bit, I read that I shouldn't install the Uboat mod if I am to use USN, so I went and tried to manually revert back to TMO without Uboat, and I lost the ability for US campaings. So....I uninstalled everything and rebooted

Questions:

Whats the best way to do a clean install of the game (in flight sim this can really effect performance)?

How can I get my free view back in TMO and RSRD?

How can I make the individual difficulty setting changes i make in the main menu stick after starting a campaign and selecting *easy*Normal*hard* (like free view)etc...?

any guesses why everything about JSGME seemed to work, but the game was not modded?

thanks for reading this. Sorry If a lot of this has been covered, but I found this forum sort of convuluted when looking for information...no offense.

thanks for all the hard work on the mods

Welcome aboard

your questions will gather answers be patient.
the jsgme thing might be that the mod file is nested
in a Title folder and it maybe this. the way to tell
is go to your mods folder open any mod file thats there
the first thing you should see is a data folder if not
wrong folder look closer. (its pretty common.)

Maybe maybe not.
Regards and again welcome.
M

Oh uh one more thing read the full readmes and try the
forum search before posting questions all have been answered
somewhere probably.

You mean like yesterday? By the date on the post he put that up about an hour after I went to bed last night.:p

WELCOME ABOARD, Pete!:sunny:

Because of rig deficiencies I still haven't done much with SH4. For the US/U-boat question, you need to have two different installs so you can treat them as separate games. For that you need MultiSH4. Get it here:
http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches2005.html#sh4

On the JSGME question, more info is needed. Look in the MODS folder again. Check any mod. The folder itself should have the name of the mod, which is unimportant except to ID it. Open the folder - the first folder inside should say DATA. If it says anything else then JSGME can't find it.

The very best way to do a clean install is to

1) Use the game disc to uninstall the game.

2) Go into the Program Files/UBISoft folder and completely remove the SH4 folder.

3) Go into My Documents and remove the SH4 folder there.

4) Reinstall the game.

There are people who are much better at this than I am, but this should help you get started.

Hey, I just got up, gimme a break MM.:p

Welcome aboard, ORboarder:up:

I'm gonna take a shot at my psychic abilities and guess that you are using Vista and that you have your game installed in the "Program Files" folder?

JSGME won't work properly in that instance unless you run it in Administrative (or whatever the term is) mode.

Best bet, in this case, is to install the game in a seperate "Games" folder (on a seperate hard drive, if you have one).

As for the other questions, I don't have answers to those, but perhaps someone can come along and answer them. Oh, for clean installing, there is a sticky thread in this forum or the main SH4 forum that describes how to best do that.

Again, welcome aboard and have fun:sunny:

Edit: Once again, I type 60 seconds too slow:rotfl:

Oh yeah! DT is right. I don't have Vista, so I always forget about that "Administrator" thing. That might be the first thing to look at.

How can I make the individual difficulty setting changes i make in the main menu stick after starting a campaign and selecting *easy*Normal*hard* (like free view)etc...?

When you're first in your office, the radio on the left brings up the options menu. Gotta set things every time you start a campaign, I think.

That confused and frustrated me at first.
