Hi all, i'm from flight simulation and i'm waiting (going to be a long wait) for storm of war: battle of britain, i decided to test this sub sim world. The only experience i had before was with jane's 688i hunter/killer. At first glance i was hugely surprised with sh4, primarily on looks alone on full detail, but i got sad when i tried the first convoy attack tutorial.
I did check every realism setting i saw in the options, but what let me down the most is the ship damage model, i got two succesful torpedoes on a transport ship, one was at the very rudder from behind, a small fire started amid ship, and they keep traveling as happy sailors. I didn't expect a couple of torpedoes to break it in half, but at least to break the propeller.

So visiting wikipedia i found this, and become very interested in nsm mod, that is what i need the most to enjoy the sim, later when i learn more about subs i surely will miss other features, or will like better graphics, so here come basic questions:

-Real fleet comes with its own nsm, or is the same mod, because in nsm thread the autor adverts that doesn't work with u-boat expansion, how is that real fleet does work with u boat then?

-I really want to test u-boat expansion, but natural sink behavior matters more to me, i could live without it. Wich mods do you sugget me to get nsm and graphic tweaks (deeper complexity would come when i get used to)

Well, that is for start, then one small question about tactics, i bought years ago a subs magazine, detailing modern submarines and remarking tactical uses, and the one that surprised me, is that because truly silent speeds are so low, to search an hostile area is done doing short straight sprints, regardless of stealth, and then a silent course deviation to detect other subs in the area and obviously avoid attacks, that way they cover more area quickly, does that apply to this sim logic?

Thanks in advance!

Well, RFB is built to work two different ways:
1. RFB+NSM+U boat addon
2. RFB+U boat addon.

But to fix problems between RFB and NSM they have to release one that's compatible with NSM and one normal one. So if you have NSM just get the one that's compatible (It should say it on the page).

I suggest RSRDC for a better campaign layer (merchant traffic is more realistic, for instance), RFB you already have, and kriller's Pacific Environments mod. You could try W_clear's Environmental mod but I prefer krillers'.

Trigger Maru is a mod that's somewhat set apart from the rest, it's designed to work on its own. I personally don't like it much but it's up to you. It does change a good amount of things and a few things are customizable, check it out.

It would, except instead of avoiding enemy subs you'd be sneaking around an escorted convoy. Sprint into positions until you pick something up, then run silent while busting their hulls open.

Happy Hunting! :ping:

Thanks for the answer!
But i don't have real fleet yet, before installing mods i did want to know how to get nsm and some graphic tweaking, but if real fleet has nsm inside then i would go with rfm first, did i make myself clear?, english it isn't my native language =P
