ok now get ready for a really good laugh i'll ask a really dumb question because, well i have no clue if it is that simple or not.

can you take the data files from an existing ship copy the texture files from another existing ship in their place and rename them as the new ships files?

would this give the "new" ship the look of one and the charactoristics from the other used to create it?

can new ships be made this way? will this work?

You need to search for cloneing.
All units added are Clones in one way or another.
Regardless of how you do it.

hmmm... :hmm:

maybe i asked the wrong question,

how can you rewrite the "locked" damage model for an existing ship in the game when the hit points dont effect how much damage a ship gets?

so i guess cloning the whole ship is not the key since im not looking to add new ships but rather make the ones in the game act like their sister ships do.

i was thinking if i made a copy of the ship, then maybe this copy wouldnt be "locked" the same way the original ship is so it would act right, then i could delete the original ship altogether.

in effect i want to replace one ships damage model or reaction to damage with anothers. like swapping or "cloning" the damage effects from a working ship that acts like the damage settings say it should.

some ships are just way too easy to sink but i cant find a way to change them.

Ah, I see now.

You want to modify the damages.
The unit you are attempting to modify may not have the proper
zones or they are misplaced.

Zone work is a science all it's own!
There are spheres and boxes and each one needs placed just so.
With the proper effect from the zones.cfg

Need to get a proper zone editor for SH4.
Anvart's thread (which I missed a year ago)
interested me.

I'll follow up with him and see what happens.
I have an idea that just may work.

yes, please do, there are a few ships like that one where something must not be linked properly.

a proper zones editor would open up lots of mod opportunities for those of us that get lost in the "hex" world lol.

I been trying to look for one too, but for me, Wenersobe is the only I know that might have a zone editor or something like that.
