Hello all,

First I apologize if this topic has already been covered, after quite a bit of forum searching i can't seem to find any relevant information on this subject.

As OpenHatch mods have been developed for SH3's TypeIX and TypeVII, i was thinking about how this could be ported over to SH4's Uboat addon for added realism in the Type IX.

Looking into the "data->Interior->NSS_Uboat9" folder, it looks as though the CR and RR .dat files are organized in such a way as to allow for the same mod design for SH3's open hatch mod to work with the SH4 files. Does anyone know if it can or already has been done? merging the CR and RR models into one and having an open hatch between the radio room and the control room in the type9?

But that isnt the main subject for the thread. What caught my eyes were the two folders in the "data->interior" folder that reads "CaptainRoom" and "CaptainRoomGE".

My question is this: What the heck are those? does anyone know? Could it be that the developers were working on a captains cabin for the US subs in SH4 but didnt complete it (like numerous other unfinished items one can find by looking through both SH3 and SH4 game files)??

Any knowledge shared on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

that is the interactive room where you begin your career from, you can mod some of the stuff you see in there for the american side but not so much for the german side

Ah, of course! I had totally forgotten about that room. I guess I assumed that room was always a 2D image...Suppose I should just get my eyes checked. :p

Thanks for the response Webster!

Hello Viper,

The three files the game engine will load in the interior environment are the CR (Control Room), CT (Conning Tower) and RR (Radio Room). Any of them can have multiple 3d models in them and they are intended to be used as three seperate rooms. Each room has its own set of co-ordinates, but they are all drawn together. You can use the free cam to fly into the next compartment as they are all part of the same 3d space. The sepeartion into individual rooms helps to reduce the polygon count and makes it nicer on the PC. As far as I know, there is nothing to stop you moving the objects so that they all line up, but it would take a lot of work. There's no need to merge the files as such, they should be OK as seperate files, you just need to tell the game engine to draw the objects in a different place and also to edit the interior models so that the door isn't a solid polygon, but an opening.

But on the other hand, if you are going to create what is effectively one model, there's nothing to stop you doing that. It just depends on what will be easier for you to work with, importing the radio room and merging it with the control room, or just moving the origin of the radio room.

Thanks for all the responses all, I should have kept up with the Operation Monsun developement thread as it seems the open hatch conversion mod is being developed in that project.

Looks like it's in skilled hands! Should be up and ready in no time.
