The other thread was nearing 100 posts, the link was getting buried so i started a new thread here...

German Speech Sound Fix for Silent Hunter IV U-Boat Add on V1.5

Version Eight
June 5 2008

Replaces v7 completely, beefed up to 178 meg.

This version includes all the changes in v7 but adds/adjusts...

- modified the "blow ballast" voice to exclude the nasty hissing sound but still includes the better 'air release sound' effect

- blow ballast voice tone now adjusted to meet the current tone of the active crew members under all conditions.

- reduced over-modulation of 'dive' sound effect

overall very minor adjustments but just a basic clean up. The blow ballast was really bugging me...

Credits included in read me. Special thanks to Spaxs and all contributors of this community this was truly a team fix.

Thanks ATR! Really enjoy useing this mod:yep:. By the way; how's the fishing been so far in Jersey? We've been enjoying a good shot of quality Stripers as of late here in NY! I'm entered in a local Striper tourney out of Mamaroneck as a matter of fact! Thanks again, and tight lines buddy:up:

"Bow tubes ready, Sir" is still in English and not German.

Reckon all the sounds in the 1,2,3,etc folders are the ones of a German install of SH4? If so, it's easy to fix myself, just thought I'd mention it.

Could this sound mod be made to work with SH3 ? Yeah, i know, but its a genuine question...i'm not a troll.

In SH4 the speech sounds are located in Data\Sound\Speech and a couple folders named numerically from 1 to 9 - in Data\Sound are also a couple speech files.

Reckon the folder structure is the same in both, haven't checked the file names - worth a try in SH3 me thinks.

In other words, I don't know ;)

I have a problem with filefront links. It redirects me to the hompage (filefront.com). Any other download link available?

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. It's probably just me who's bad at locating files at FF but the only user I can find is ATR42 (http://hosted.filefront.com/Atr42/) and the only file available is a iPhone app called TideApp.ipa?

ATR, for the next version of this pack you could use the trick found out by Captain von Keldunk, which allows the US and german crews to actually use different voices without any need to switch voice packs with JGSME. It works by splitting the number of voices in two, making one set be german voices and the other american voices. Then, the text file for the voices is edited making german crewmen only use the german voices, and american crewmen use only the american ones.

IT reduces the number of different voices available to half (And also the download size, obviously), but in my humble opinion :D it is worth it for those who switch theaters frequently.

A guide to that fix can be found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1098643&postcount=54

Cheers :shucks:

hey guys i just got home,
it looks like FF removed all my files!!! i will try to re upload, to FF or to subsims.
i will also look at the post above and see if thats feasible, ive been getting a ton of requests via email, and PMs here, i havent forgotten. i'll get something up asap.

That would be great if that little fix could be implemented! That has always been my biggest gripe with UBM. I never play one side exclusively. I might do a little bit of a patrol with one side or a mission with another. Switching back and forth between English and German drove me nuts. That's one of the reasons I reinstalled SH3.

im trying to follow whats exactly involved in that post but im not exactly sure, how in depth it is... im reading it some more now... it would certainly make sense.

the post regarding the more streamlined way of doing things seems to make sense but im not sure i understand it fully enough to impliment it just yet. if anyone has further, more exacting details please email or PM me.

in the meantime, i re uploaded the speech fix to FF and im uploading to Subsims now!

Okay guys,
i didnt have time to do the more streamlined install thats mentioned in post 14, maybe at a later time.

there are also a few files that need to be changed over to german speech, (4 sayings), so in the future, there may be another update or two down the road.

however, these are the links to Version 8, nothing has changed, still works as advertised.

You can find this download in the sub sim downloads under sound FX, search German Speech Fix

sorry for the delay, good hunting.

Thanks for posting! Maybe put it in the ATO section as well so the full time Kaleuns can give it a try :D

The streamlined version works partially, but could be a bit of a nightmare depending on what other mods you have installed.

I have TMO 1.7, with RSRDC_411, then OpMonsun.
I used the above linked method (thanks Hitman) to overwrite speech folder 1 with spax's german speech and edited the crew data files to refer to speech folder 1 for the german crews.

Unfrotunately, as also mentioned above, there are a number of other files in the sounds folder that also contain speech. It's simple enough to create yet another mod package to overwrite these when you want to campaign as a U-Boot Kaleun, and only takes seconds to install as there are only a few files.
This does create a number of dependencies on the different packages, so you have to be careful installing and uninstalling - e.g TMO has a speech file to overwrite, and several sound files, but I must say I'm impressed with JSGME's ability to "nest" packages and recognise dependencies, so it's fairly simple to do.

The ideal would be to have generic sound files, I'll have a look to see if I can find any, to enable a one-stop package that allows campaigning as either US or German without the need for swapping sound files around. If anyone has some, let me know - I'm ok at packaging stuff, but anything vreative is way beyond my feeble brain.

I'd like to add a huge thankyou to all the modders that have made this such a fantastic game, and to the helpful people on this forum who share some of the characteristics of seafarers in their willingness to lend a hand.

Your mod doesn't work for me for some reason.

I load it into the JGSM mods folder, activate it. Ran Silent Hunter 4 while JGSM is on, didn't work. Ran SH4 with JGSM off. That didn't work either. The JGSM is up-to-date and I don't understand why the ****ing thing doesn't work. I hate the english sounds.

For those of you experiencing "hanging bug" during the install, i want to emphasize something...
I never experienced this until i upgraded my OS to win7 but now i see what ive gotten a lot of PMs about, and it just dawned on me that they were likely reports from vista users...

when you enable the German speech fix, JSGME will appear to "hang". it wont appear to be doing anything, even the hour glass will look frozen. I had to wait and FULL 1-2 minutes before the dialog box popped up to enable the mod. And id like to further emphasize that the dialog box appeared BEHIND the JSGME window, i had to move the mod window to get to the enable popup dialog behind it. This was all before JSGME would show the green progress bar in the bottom right...

moral of the story, be VERY PATIENT! :) happy German sailing...

I want to emphasize the above...

hi Fish!!
yes we are all very thankful here. Bay Head and Lavallette got hit with some bad flooding, and we saw winds around 60-65 mph but the house is safe so is the boat :)

i still poke around here and sail the sub. but keeping up with all the changes became more daunting than playing at 1x :)

but i still find myself firing up the ship to patrol now and again.

hope your fishing season is going well, ours has been quiet, and i hope you guys were safe too during the storm...
