Hey all!

Hope you've enjoyed the past couple of months! I finally made it home from my Partnership of the America's cruise yesterday. Sure had some strange events go on but made it home safe nonetheless.

For anyone who didn't know, my ship (USS George Washington) caught fire, it was absolutely horrible and we had to pull in early but logistical issues kept me from flying home until yesterday. :damn:

Finally got my promotion to Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class, sailed across the equator twice, was made a "flaming" shellback as a result of our fire, found out me & my wife are expecting a new addition to our family, and got to see Rio De Janiero, Brazil, and Valparaiso, Chile, along the way. Also got to launch one of the last S-3B Vikings ever off an aircraft carrier.

I also want to add that if anyone has a better working knowledge of PHP and MySQL than I do, and you have some spare time, I would greatly appreciate some help with a few things around bts-mods.com

Hope to see yall around!

Congrats -SWCowboy and best of Luck to a fellow shellback.
Just wondering what's your home-port. Mine was San-Dog.

I don't know how much you can get away with in todays shellback shinannigans, but back in the early 80's I can remember chasing pollywogs down with frayed firehose after midrats. Once we kidnapped the fantail watch and set up some pranks. Alot of fun to be had with a roll of duct-tape, garbage, vomit and grease ;)

You'll spit in your grave when you hear this...
I never went through the actual shellback initiation. I'm with a squadron, VS-22, the ship we were attached to (CVN 73) caught fire around the same time we were supposed to have our crossing-the-line ceremony so they called us all to the hangar bay to quarters, brought in King Neptune & he said you all got a trial-by-fire shellback initiation, walked off and that was that.
We really went through hell when that crap went down though, it was supposedly the worst carrier fire since the Forrestal from what we've been told.

We used to sail out of Norfolk but the GW's on its way to Japan and that was the last we'll see of that ship cause we're slated to decomm soon. We got dumped off in San Diego til we were flown home. We're onboard NAS Jacksonville these days for the remainder of 22's life.

Ahh so the George Washington is replacing the Kitty Hawk. Making her the 1st CVN stationed outside of US ports I beleive. Hope the fire was not an omen to that.

Yep, the Japanese didn't like the idea of a nuclear carrier being sent there either... I can't blame them after that crap...
