Torpedoes in LWAMI

I was wanting to ask about the changes that were made to the torpedoes in LWAMI.

The big thing so far I've noticed is the 65 cms? Aren't those wire-guided IRL? Also I thought that the 65 cm was primarily not a wakehomer.

Another thing is the addition of the new Chinese torpedo. Its welcome for gameplay but is there any, even unofficial or highly suspiciious, confirmation of it?

65cm Torpedo-WEAPON ADDED-guidance sensor and doctrine changed to simulate 65-76 Wakehoming Hydrogen Peroxide-powered Torpedo (the type supposedly removed after the Kursk Incident). All specifications have been left the same except guidance-following the wakehome doctrine now-and the wire has been removed. The wire-guidance option has been disabled in-game, but we can't change the fire-control graphics, so you'll just have to remember that the A/P and search pattern buttons do nothing, and then the torpedo will continue in a straight line after it enables. Although you can launch the weapon deep, SET THE SEARCH DEPTH AT ~10m, depending on how lucky you feel that day. This weapon is only for ASuW and cannot be targeted at submerged contacts.


Yu-8 Torpedo-WEAPON ADDED-The SET-53E on the Chinese Kilos has been replaced with a hypothetical pirated version of the Russian USET-80, a multipurpose heavyweight torpedo with max range 16.7km at 45kts with a maximum depth of 475 and an active/passive seeker with quality between a Mk46 and a USET-80 (this weapon has yet not been added to the torpedo parameter guide included with the Mod).

The Yu-8 replaces the SET-53 then right? So just pick SET-53 for the new torp I suppose.

Still on the Akulas I think the change in the 65 cm is a bit ... I dunno. Is this really the normal variant of the 65 cm? I can see how its not as useful against subs now that its a wakehomer but it is super-deadly, almost over-powered against surface warships as a result.

No. SCS's wireguided 65cm torp is completely made up. The 65-76 is a real torpedo.

No, the Yu-8 is a speculative weapon. It's based on the idea that China has probably copied the USET or something like it and we just don't know about it yet.

Note that at present also 65-76 torpedo isn't realistic because it was withdrawn form service after "Kursk" accident. I am sure UGST torpedo isn't operational on Russians subs as well due to not completed development. So, if you want to be realistically accurate I am afraid you should play "Akula" with the same torps used on "Kilos". :rotfl:

Everything depends on current monopropellant vs. electric torpedo propulsion efficiency and cost. As I see only US Navy and Royal Navy use solely chemical torpedoes. Also recent improvements in electric propulsion and especially Zn-AgO batteries capacity (see German DM2A4 fish!) suggest such cheaper solutions will be chosen over Otto-II fuel more often by majority of World navies. :know:

I believe the intention of this weapon was to be an anti-carrier torpedo.
