Ships sunk: 8
Aircraft destroyed: 0
Patrol tonage: 42342 tons
They were hauling at 20 knots. Managed to track their course and mark an estimate for an intercept. Figured with that time of day, speed and the noise they would have trouble picking me up.
Survival hint: lower the snorkle :ping:
Carrier went down with 3 hits, the 4th hit but she was done already. 2 T-III's and 2 T-III FaT's, or were they LuT's, I can't remember.
Slamed the cruiser behind her with a T-1, that's right a T-1. Then she slowed down enough I finished her with a T-V. Dido on the 2nd. Dido.
T-IV's from the stern tube blasted the Hunt I & C&D.
A few hours later while on a tried and true evaison tactic I tracked the remaining ships, which had swung due North. Used a T-III on the Tribal and ignighted the J&K with the last T-IV. They were hauling once again screening the remaining Dido, and had no clue as to my position. It goes to show that if you know how the older eels will perform you can use that to your advantage in late war jazz.
Never made it to the patrol grid, but I did find a small merchant in the way on the course back to Trondheim.
First viic career from the begining of the war that has made it into `45. And while that probably sounds like no big deal, it is if you've been playing the game since 06 without that happening.
Final career in GWX 1.03 using Cobalt's `41. Sound like old news? Come on guys, it wasn't that long ago. Speaking of which I'm still looking for those uber-dd's and escorts I read so much about.
Maybe I'll find them in 2.x :arrgh!:
One more note, the real turning point in survival was after I went through the manual. Seriously. After that the game became fun again. Sure you'll loose boats developing tactics for both attack & evasion but so what, start another one. You can read about others methods and tactics that work for them, but in the end it's you steering the boat, not them. If you don't then it's like the builder who keeps bringing raw material to the job site but doesn't make anything. His buddy tells him how nice all the gear and material looks, and the guy says "wait till you see all the rest of the stuff".
