i wanted to fill in the empty feeling of the map with all those small unidentified islands and such.

i play vanilla unmodded stock 1.5 so im not looking for a mod that does anything other than fill in the map.

does anyone know of a small mod that does this without making other changes?

i tried taking the "land" folder from RSRDC to convert it into a stand alone "RSRDC - Landmarks" mod but it just kept getting CTD so that didnt work.

I'd like to see an Easter Island. Seriously though, I really want to make a power mod. Something like Steiner's EAW mod which is very large by comparison to the mods for Silent Hunter. Of course I would never think of doing such a thing myself but with people who make minor mods.

Try this link. It adds names to the land masses. I used it in V1.4.

thanks, that looks great, but its not available anymore (this file is too old and has been deleted)

EDIT: i found a member who had a working link for it on filefront: http://files.filefront.com/Map+Labels+13zip/;10061427;/fileinfo.html

i think your looking at the wrong end, your mod will no doubt double or triple in size as you build it so starting with a plan for such a large mod may make it huge.

i would recommend sticking to the basics with an item list of things you want it to do then see who has mods that fit that need or can be modified to incorporate. then you will have your "need" list for other modders help. once its built you will see all the things you need or forgot to add to it and each time you think your done you need more stuff so it grows big fast.

many of us are good natured and willing to help but not many of us have the skill to overcome some of the complications of overlapping and contraditary files. sometimes its skill level can get high. i have no skills persay, but i would help if i can, my skills are just pretty basic but i have extra time on my hands to do stuff if properly supervised lol.
