If I wanted to change the rate of fire for the deck gun on the fleet boats, what file and line entry(ies) would I be looking for?

Thanks!

What you want to look at is in the .sim file for the gun you want to work on. For example, if you want to work on the 4_50, open up the blah blah blah\Data\Library\USSubParts\Deck_Gun_4_50.sim file with S3D. Then expand the wpn_Cannon controller identifier (click the + sign next to it), click on the wpn_Cannon render controller (the child node) and in the right pane you will see "everything you always wanted to know about the 4_50 gun, but were afraid to ask". The reload time is what will control your rate of fire.

Probably a good idea to make a backup of the original or (better yet) copy the file into a correct folder structure for JSGME and modify that file, then activate it as a mod.

Got there thanks!

Question: I see that stock 1.5 default reload on the 4_50 is 4. To make that slower, do I lower the number or make it larger?

Thanks again!

Larger. It increases the load time. If you want slow motion fire rates, just raise the recoil time to about 3.

Or change the reload time to 15. The reload time is the number of seconds (approximately, depending on crew and situation) that it takes to reload the gun.

I slowly uped mine until I ended at 14...sure was better than the default 4...:D

Question: With the deck gun fully manned, historically what was the reload time say for the 4 50? I couldn't find anything on the net...

Thanks!

Edit: Interesting...I uped the reload time to 30 and placed two CPOs in the gunner position. Yepper, it took 30 seconds to reload.

Next I placed two gumba-buddies in the gunner position and they fiddled around for a whole minute reloading.

Fascinating game this is!

There have been all sorts of "discussions" (sometimes referred to as arguments) about the realistic rate of fire of the sub deck guns. Some quote times under perfect conditions (excellent crew, calm waters, tests instead of combat) and others quote times from what were not so perfect conditions (not so calm waters, not tests but actual combat while under fire and not perfect crewmen). Do a few searches on rate of fire or reload time and you should be able to find a few of the discussions.

I settled on 15 second reload times as being fairly "realistic" in that it stops me from using the "assault rifle" style of deck gunning. I also use the "realistic deck gun" mod to make the pitching and rolling of the sub come into play.

For me, fire rate realism is defined by whether or not your crew is eating their Wheaties. I find it difficult for anything to be realistic considering none of us were there to take notes.

Yes, realistic deck gun is an incredible mod, but also incredibly unusable due to bugs/side effects.

Basically, reload time and rate of fire are not the same. Just because a gun is reloaded does not mean it is necessarily ready to fire on a target (outside of stock SH4 super-stabilized, fire control computer mode). So, realistic reload and realistic rate of fire are not necessarily the same.

Thanks for all the info, I finally settled on a 20 second reload time...:D

Cheers!
