Hi,
I use it in full screen mode without a problem .. Strange !!
One in 1680x1050 in my normal rig with Nvidia . ( XP SP3 and Vista no problems)
And another on second rig in 1600x1200 with ATI. ( Just XP tested). On this machine, my desktop is in 1152/864 and there is no glitches to pass on another resolution in game.
I already said it but --> Billions of thanks to the authors of the tweak !!

I also have it. I also have the Compatiblity Tool Kit if you haven't installed it.

Also, remember you can't use Fraps with the Res Fix. It causes CTD. No know fix as far as I know.

Absolutely no need of "Microsoft compatibility tool kit" anymore with the
" SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_For_1.4b".
The files contains some batfile to run in the SH3 folder, which does all the necessary things. And after that, you need to edit a file called " D3d9.Cfg" for desired resolution.
Simple, brillant ..

Thanks for posting the file, it's much appreciated . BTW, does this new version allow the use of the "F10" (deck gun) camera now? I always used an old version of Kegetys d3d9.dll for years, but since I upgraded to SP3 (or maybe before, I can't remember sorry!) it was always worth the tradeoff of loosing the F10 hotkey for the greatly improved res (I like to play SHIII in 1440x900). I'm guessing that the included shiii.sdb file fixes this, yes? Sorry to have to ask but I'm not at my computer to test it right now, thanks.

If you use the file : " SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_For_1.4b" , then no need the tool kit.
But if you use the "old" one ( DX9Res10 ) then, you need the tool kit ..
In fact, the "SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_For_1.4b" have the DX9res10 in it, and one more tweak as a simple bat.file which do the work needed.
Part of the readme :
"Just copy the two batch files and the SHIII.sdb file to your SH3 directory,
and run the "SP2 Res fix.bat".(I've included a batch file to uninstall the
fix should you ever need to.)
I've included the d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg in case you don't already have it.
Thanks to Kegetys for dx9res10 and to +G for the idea of creating this zip. "

Well I have edited the config and applied that same res... 1440x900 and it works fine with me. Thanks. So, just to clarify please; you're saying that you can use F10 in the game with this fix? That was my specific question (but you didn't mention this).
F9 and F11 are also inoperative for me with Kegetys' fix, so they work for you?? Strange... I looked at the files and it appears it's just Kegetys' old d3d9.dll I've been using since 2005. As well as the known F key conflicts, it stretches the screen size perfectly but it doesn't correct the aspect ratio. I took this screen a few minutes ago... note how it's stretched and not 16:10.
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4695/sh3stretchedip9.th.jpg (http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh3stretchedip9.jpg)
Note the oval-shaped Sun but... the textures on my flags are not stetched! Dials and other things like periscope view are very prominently oval-shaped, but it's not a gamekiller for me, I can live with it (but it would be nice to finally fix it). I was thinking that if some textures are stretched and some aren't, it might interfere with map Navigation angles and TDC? I never had any major problems with it though. Anyone...?
One more thing, I noticed that the included batch files aren't necessary unless you're using an old version of XP from three years ago. All you need are d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg in your SH3 game folder. The batch files were for either installing or uninstalling the included SHIII.SDB file ("Appfix package") into SH3.EXE, which is exactly the same file you can always create yourself with the Microsoft Application Compatability Toolkit (which, as has already been mentioned, is no longer required for this fix).
I can fix the F9, F10 and F11 key conflicts by reprogramming them in my "Commands_en.cfg" no problem, but it would be nice if there was a final solution to correct the aspect ratio for widescreen displays :damn:

Hi all.
i run the fix on widescreen but i dont get any stretching at all - strange. i dont know what could be causing it, the fix works fine on mine.
one tip tho. when i enabled the fix at my screens native resolution there was a problem which made the fix largely worthless: the textures within the border of a shape were greatly enhanced, at the cost of the edges being horribly jagged, despite AA being turned up full on my graphics card; also, the rigging on ships looked horrible.
i was not happy with this trade off and almost dumped the fix, but then decided to try this: instead of configuring it to run at full resolution, i checked the next biggest widescreen ratio supported by my graphics card; so, ive now got the fix set to run at 1440x900 on my 1680x1050 screen. this is a trade off i am happy with: textures have been improved and i have nice smooth edges - sweet! what im gonna try next is gradually increasing the res used by the fix (whilst maintaining the 16:10 ratio) to see if i can find the best combination of texture and smooth edges.
i was a bit underwhelmed by the fix at first, but now i reckon that, if u have a big monitor, you should try it

Just returning to SH3 after a long period of messing around with SH4. Unfortunately, my good old 21" CRT went kaput during that time, and I had to replace it with a 24" widesceren monitor. I was running it at 1024x768 anyway, 'cause that's what I always used to run SH3 at and all my menu/GUI tweaks were set for that resolution. Unfortunately, I discovered that my upgraded video card (got an 8800GTS along the way for SH4) looks crappy with SH3 if you use AA (the flickering/sparkling along the horizon problem), and I can't stand running at 1024x768 without AA, so I tried ths res fix a few days ago so I could run SH3 at my native resolution (1920x1200).
It seems to work (I used the application toolkit following instructions I found on the UBI forum while Subsim was down, though now it looks like maybe I didn't need to?), in that I can run it at 1920x1200 and both the sparkling and the jaggies are gone, but I do get some slight elongation/stretching of some of my dials (but not all) and scopes - not horrible and certainly playable, though it would be nicer without it.
One thing that I was surprised by though - when I went from 1024x768 to 1920x1200 on SH4, most on-screen elements seemed to get smaller and I got a lot of extra room around the sides of the scope views (which was really nice in that the TDC and recognition manual pullouts didn't obscure the scope view much if at all, and there was more room on the command bar at the bottom for extra buttons). HOWEVER, when I used this fix to go to 1920x1200 in SH3, it seemed like most things got a bit bigger and I didn't wind up with much extra room at all around the edges of the scopes views and stuff. I tried stepping down to the next lower 16x10 ratio resolution, but it didn't really help and it wasn't as sharp/crisp, so I went back to 1920x1200. Does the slight stretching and lack of extra space I'm getting maybe indicate that the "fix" didn't work as well as I thought it did, or that I've messed something up in the install process somehow, or is that just the way this fix works?

Hi all.
ive tried setting the fix to run at a 16:10 ratio between those supported by my graphics card (1440:900 and 1680:1050), 1600:1000 to be precise....and it didnt work, caused a ctd. therefore it looks like your choice of resolution is fixed to those your GPU supports. im gonna stick with 1440:900, for the reasons given above.
@richardphat: seeing as your trying to run it at a res lower than SH3 runs at, do you really need the fix at all? would you not be better off without the fix......?
@panthercules: you dont need that application thingummy; you just need the latest version of the fix (youll find it on the 1st page or two of this thread). just follow the instructions given in the readme, supported by whats been said already in this thread. i still dont reckon you wanna run it at full res tho (read my post above)

Yes, it woks on Vista without trouble
To Panthercules :
SH3 with ResFix in 16:10 ration will always be streched, unfortunatly. But i can guarranty to you that with a few hours of playing, you will no more be bothered with this. In fact, now, when i see SH3 on a 4:3 CRT screen, it seems so weired, LOL !!
SH4 is natively compatible with new widescreen monitors, so, it's not streched, and yes, you gain some space between tools on the screen when using higher res.

Guys, can I clarify something once and for all...
Does the resolution fix work with the latest OLC mods (environment 2.4.2 with the GUI etc.)?
I run widescreen and was able to crank the resolution to 1920 x 1200, (although the dials and peri view are still ovals).
But... when firing on the first ship in the torpedo exercise every single one went VERY wide. I'm used to using the GUI with full manual targeting, so this is very odd behaviour.
Sorry if the answer is elsewhere in the forums, but I've seen a lot of conflicting info so I just wanted to confirm it.

OK - here are a couple of shots from running the rez fix in XP at 1920x1200 - as you can see, there is some stretching but it's not terrible, though it would be nice to be able to see it without the distortion:

hi kaleun.
i cant give a definitive answer to your question. i use OLCE and it works fine; however, i dont use olc gui special as im not quite ready to make the switch to full manual - but when i do, olc special will be my gui of choice.
more specifically tho, i do remember reading in the olcuber thread at some point that he could not guarantee that the ubermod would be fully compatible with the resfix. i think your best bet would be to discuss your problem with olc directly

Sorry for asking stupid questions, but how can I get it to work? I copied both batch files and the SDB one, then looked for both d3d9 and as didn't find them I copied both - all that in my SH3 directory. Then I run the batch file, I see a DOS window and immediately a Vista question if I know that programme. I tell him to continue, another DOS window and it disappears - I suppose it's done. But the game still runs at its basic resolution even if there is a higher one set in th cfg file...
Should I put cfg and dll files in some subfolder?
wizardmatt
06-22-08, 04:05 AM
no mate u dont.
maybe im stating the obvious and this is what youve done already, but you simply unzip the contents of the resfix .rar/.zip into the main directory, ie c\program files\ubisoft\silent hunter 3. you dont need any new folder/subfolder, so the 2 batch files, the .cfg file, .dll file - ie all of them - sit DIRECTLY in \silent hunter 3 by themselves, NOT within any subfolder. it should then just be a case of running the setup batch file and adjusting the .cfg file.
like i said, sorry if this is what youve already done. if it is, i use xp, so maybe its an issue with vista, which i cant help u with
good luck
