In the third patrolling, september 39, transferring from konigsberg to kiel (like from orders), sonar has picked up a convoy of two cargo vessels. I maneuver in order to cross them and being night I engage to them. Being night, I just do not succeed to see the flags. Perfect sea. Two torpedo to and three torpedo to the other and I send the God Neptune! But… tragedy! On the map the GREEN symbol of the neutrality appears. I re-enter to Kiel and surprise ....... the neutral tonnage (8000 tonn.) comes to me added and it comes assigned to me renown! To this point, you confirm to me that if the ships do not ignite the lights in order to illuminate the flags we are authorized to attack (with the risk to hit also friendly ships)? The two that I have hit, have ignited the lights but in order to only sound the surface dell' water. Perhaps if they had been made to recognize I would have avoided the grace blow, but I have the fear that if they were sunk however, would have penalized to me. I have tried to remember similar indications on the messages sent from BdU, but I have not found trace. Experiences yours?

Only neutral ships show lights at the beginning of the war (hospital ships as well)....but not always all of them, all of the time http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

And this (that is does not have the ignited lights) allows us to engage them? And then how do you explain that they have assigned also the renown to me?

I think he's stating that the orders messaged in from from BDU make all dark ships in certain locations fair game at various stages of the war. Yet, if you sink a darkened neutral you are penalized by the game and docked renown despite authorization from BDU to the contrary.

I noticed this conflict before myself. The orders coming in as messages say its okay, but the game doesn't recognize BDU's orders.

Right, gotcha

The problem is though....the majority of radio messages are primarily just there for game immersion.

Yesterday I was copied into a message from U-30 to Bdu and I was actually playing U-30

The only workaround would be to strip the message file of it's orders or keep your radioman space vacant.

No, not exactly.

There are many radio messages scripted in the game with reference to and from many different U-boats.

The game gives you a U-boat randomly (unless your using SH3 Commander) which inevitably means....by the law of averages you may on occasion receive a radio message/report originating from a U-boat number identical to yours.

Or news that you've sank a Capital Ship when in reality all that you have seen is a DD at best http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/bubblegum2.gif
