Just making a thread for anyone what wants to make a ship have questions about making ships or just posting thier vicories over the code of SH4.
I have only a small amount of modding skill, and none of it applys to SH4 this is just for everyone else since there is a thread like this that dosent exist.

I'd like to know if this thread is only about how to make ships or even about which ships to make..
Personally I'd like to see Bismarck class and Scharnhorst class, and use them for commerce raiding (what we already do in our little U boats..). The biggest porblem is that those ship are not present in stock sh4, so we have to import them and then enable (if possible). The other way is o create new models from scratch.
I'm not very good at modding...I'm playng wiht the pocket BB and Atlantis aux cruiser, and I am currently investigating about damage systems.
Personally I love the idea of sailing a big surface vessel for anti convoy duty:arrgh!:
(quite tired of submarines...:shifty: )
This thread is for almost anything i know that there were SH3 versions of both ships. And someone has allready gone through the rouble of converting them. ill snatch some of the links and post them on this thread so everyone knows whats being worked or has been released.

Dont forget the Pocket Battleship Admiral Scheer/Admiral Graf Spee. Stickied at the top. The moders have made signifigant improvements to the entire programing of the ship. I'd like to say it's almost done but that would be a lie. We have made major steps forward to perfecting surface ships for SH4 but it will be a while before the fine points are worked out.

I believe Repulse, Gorky and River were not meant to be playable but conversations to add some additional AI units to SH4. :hmm:
I’m looking forward to the playable IJN Takao by miner1436. :up:
A heavy cruiser is what I think is most suitable as commerce raider in SH4. It is not unsinkable but at the same time you can dare to attack a guarded convoy.
What would be a nice addition is to add randomly a heavy cruiser as guard to convoys. This way the player would really be endangered to receive noticeable damage. :hmm:
Of course only if AI units would have the same or greater range as playable units. With W4lt3rs range fix I can outrange any AI ship at the moment, which makes me a bit too powerful. But rather that than the stock range :yep:

yup same here but i would also like the tirpitz due to its a bismarck with more AA guns which could come in handy durring some of those escorted fleets:up:

The Tirpitz Battleship was baiscally a Bismack class with some improvements, even in the armor scheme if my memory serves me well. They look almos identical...but obviously the second unit (Tirpitz) was slightly more powerful than her sister.
The greatest thing would be to implement a "task force" command function. So we could command the Bismarck and have a second escort unit (maybe a Scharnhorst class) plus destroyer escort under our command.

Yup were right, main thread has been fixed to change that.
I havent seen the range fix yet for any ship i have played. I would love to engage enemies at a far longer range, mind you then i really dont get to see the action. What i am most looking forward to is some kind of damage control and realisitc flooding NSM style for the playable ships. Its fun and all hammering away ant enemy BBs but its no fun when you are not sweating bullets hoping to dont get a magazine hit on you.

I can't wait till the Iowa and the Ise are relaesed. No matter how many times you tell me it's boring, it just never gets old battering the US fleet with something taller than it is long...:D

I actually include W4's files as standard with my conversions . Saves having to remember to install it all the time.
I wonder if we can get premission to use these models....

The only difficulty seems to be: we must have some models to upload in exchange. If we want the free registration we have to upload a new model for each model we donwload. Everything could be FREE but we must provide some of our models.

All of the downloadable 3D models available in 3D World Club (3Dclub UK) catalog may be used free in your own work. 3D models may not be sold individually or provided for free to another parties.
Anyway, since you need to model something before downloading a model, why not model the ship you need in the first place :)
Of course I did, and I assure you I know the meaning of FREE (even if my english is far from perfection).
In fact, nobody sells mods here, nor is prividing the model to anyone. If you (or someone else) use one of their models, and then distributes the mod in which the model is used and not the model alone as it is donwloaded from their site, then I guess it is allright.
Moreover, I remember something like "you can mdofy the 3d models" (not completely sure).
Of course, you are right (and I agree) on the last point: since we should upload something in exchange, why don't we simply create the model we need and forget about donwolading??

i downloaded the clemson and it is fantastic, thank you! it inspired me to get the uboat missions to try your other ships. now i am having problems understanding how to install useing winrar. i looked through the help threads and i couldn't find what i needed. please help or link me where i need to go. i appretiate ya'lls hard work.

Welcome to subsim and to install a mod using the Winrar, usually they have their own folder route already in the rar file, so you just need to extract them into the MODS Folder and activate using JSGME, but i tend to always check that they have the proper route before extracting. I've ran into some mods that had Data file but not the main folder, aka the mod name.
1. Normally, just extract the mod into MODS folder in SH4 main folder.
2. Check that the mod has the "mod name here" folder and inside it the data folder.
3. activate with JSGME
4. Play.

first thank you for the quick response. Before my first post i had the clemson working now i have the pocket battleship working after reading your post. i have the yamato, fletcher, and repulse not working. all are in the jsgme and i only have one activated at a time. Answers 1-4: 1. done 2. checked, all good 3. activated only one at a time and it is the only mod active. 4. only can play clemson and admiral scheer ( both are beautiful ).
please show me the way! ( maybe an auto-install :up: )

I think you can only have 1 playable ship per side on at a time. to get the Yamato working, you have to take the Pocket Battleship mod off first and then activate the Yamato. Because those both mods modify same files. Along with Clemson & Fletcher & Repulse.

hm, are ya saying i need to not just deactivate the clemson but also take it out of the "mods" folder in order to activate the fletcher. All i've been doing is activating one ship at a time. I will continue tinkering, thanks W4lt3r!

No no, just deactivating either side ship mod currently activated, and then activating that sides another ship mod.
Example: I have PocketBB Mod on, I want to play the Yamato.
I deactivate PocketBB mod through JSGME and load Yamato.
Then just starting of a new career. But are you saying that you cant even pick the harbor where to take these ships, because from Yamato, i think only Penang is the only possible harbor, Pocket BB from any base. But then the Clemson/Fletcher, not sure. I have to download those ships and check their UPC files if you cant see those ships and alter them a bit for you so that you surely can use those 2 ships, wich you prefer to use.

ok, yea i am deactivating and activating one at a time. i read in the pocket battleship "read me" that he also did the fubruki. i downloaded the fubruki and it works great, so however his files come my computer seems to agree with. the clemson works great but the fletcher is non-existant (i can pick any submarine but no fletcher, when i activate the clemson there are no subs only ddclemson) when activated. a little frusterating but the 3 ships i have running are very fine!

An interesting bit of information on what could have been sailing in the kreigsmarine had the germans been more sucessful during the war and a real challange for any adventureous modders *hint hint* ;) :arrgh!: ...*hint*:p

Yeah, I've heard of Germany's H Class battleships, as part of the Z plan fleet programme, in which consisted of warship plans and design specifications for Kreigsmarine warships up to 1948. If Hitler had not focused on the U-boats, and trusted Admiral Raeder's Surface Warship initiative more. If he allowed the Aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin to be completed, resumed work on laying down the H Class battleships, and most of all, had not invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, postponing it until 1942. Books on Naval History would have been rewritten. A tyrant who never listens to his senior Military advisors, poor strategy, wrong political moves in bad times, sums up his final downfall. Sometimes such awfully large, out of proportion, yet amazingly advanced weaponary are best left on paper. Even if the H class battleship succeeded to exist,with the Carrier based aircraft, the H class battleship is practically useless, the Yamato class battleship proved that the battleship era was over. ;)

Yet at the same time Battleships remained in service untill the 90's and are now making their way back to use again with advances in naval artillery. It's amazing how old technology is coming back. I cant wait for some of these new ships to come out. I want to personally beat the USS Iowa into the ground. I have some task forces to remove from service that my poor Admiral Scheer cant do :(

Update on Bismarck/Konig Bismarck/Scharnhorst:
When i orginal posted a request for a playable Bismarck, no one seemed to really want to take up the chanllege, then Yamato1 came along and made the Bismarck playable. Im working on the Konig Bismarck ( a H44 class Super Battleship), as for the Scharnhorst, i requested it but no one has answered me on if they are going to take up the chanllege. I know a converted SH3 Scharnhorst is in OM, if anyone wants to make it playable that would be great.
