View Full Version : Manual Deck Gun Management

Am running GWX2.1 (great extension of the previous mod) but the usual F10 keyboard acquisition of manual aiming of the deck gun does not seem to work as before. I have RTFM but don't see any alternative to AI deck gun use. Am I missing something...besides not being able to man the gun myself?

Make sure you are telling the crew to man the deck gun. Thats the only thing I can think of. I'm sure one of the vetran kaulens can answer this question better than me.:yep:

Archive1,
Are you running SH3Speech? If so, check the IKH (Innenkommunikatzionen Handbuch) for the correct keypresses or voice commands. SH3Speech changes some of the "standard" keypresses and adds lots of other new ones.

Usual suggestions from me I'm afraid.....

Make sure you've got a full compliment of men manning the gun, (preferably trained and experienced).
Remember to load that first round yourself by clicking on it.

Whilst looking through the binoculars, hit the spacebar and then go direct to the gun.

Ok, now I'm having exactly the same problem as Archive1 with the F10 key now disabled in GWX2.1. I suspect a mod or a new modpatch has somehow altered the keyboard values for the F10 key... for some reason I'm thinking it was Thompsen's Sound mod that did it but I can't be sure... I have only ever enabled/disabled a mod in JSGME in the correct and proper order and never had this problem before.

So I deactivated all my mods but... uh oh... still no F10 key. Looks like I'm left with no option but to uninstall SH3 completely (or be without the F10 key anymore... which for surprise surface assaults was always a necessity for me to have it rather than have to select it slowly with the mouse via the GUI). Anyone know what happened?

PS: and yes... my F10 key works in other apps...

Tarred Rope,

Take a look in your
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg\Commands_en .cfg" file

Command #19 should look like this:

[Cmd19]
Name=Deckgun_camera
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F020005
Key0=0x79,,"F10"
Page=0x38000000,3707
GoBack=Conning_deck_camera

If you play the German version then the file to check is "Commands_de.cfg"

I seem to recall reading on a thread somewhere on here that the resolution fix mod causes some function keys not to...well...function...the way they are supposed to (F9, F10, F11, F12). That is why I reporogrammed commands on those keys to other key combinations in SH3Speech.

I seem to recall reading on a thread somewhere on here that the resolution fix mod causes some function keys not to...well...function... Danke!!!! :arrgh!::sunny:You are perfectly right sir; I took out kegetys' d3d9.dll and F10 works!:know: :ping:

Sorry Thomsen... for thinking it was all your fault hehe :lol: :oops:

It was my fault for thinking it worked before. The problem was, I had only just re-installed SHIII for the first time this year and had been playing SHIV recently... so in my mind I was thinking "but I CAN hit F10 (really F6) to get the deck gun cam... what went wrong!?" when in fact, I hadn't been able to use F10 in SHIII at all :oops:

Now you mention it, I do vaguely remember this problem... but I don't recall having to reprogram the F10 key... so I tried a different d3d9.dll (written by Racer_S) which I think I might have used at the time but now it's just CTD city... doesn't work. Although... I am using a different video card setup now so can't be sure. Heh, maybe it's a surprise effect of "upgrading" to XP SP3, who knows.

Thanks also to Bob!! Perfect info sir :know: Now I'll be able to reconfigure the F10 key to something else. FIXED :up:

Did they fix it for you too, Archive1?

Thanks a million guys, this is why Subsim is the best forum there is. :up:

Good hunting :ping:

Tomcattwo and bobchase are both correct. I am using SH3Speech (if you are not, you should...it's terrific) and I had forgotten that SH3Speech reset some keyboard commands (sorry Tomcattwo)...I immediately recalled that fact and realised I should have thought of it before sending the query. When I opened the "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg\Commands_de .cfg" file it was apparent that the old "F10" had been reset to Shift F7 (I think that's correct). I just left it in place, now that I know the new command why change it?

The lesson: think through all the variables your mods create and review them before you clutter the message board with questions you should answer yourself.

jimbuna: I didn't know that endrun. Do you know if it will still work with SH3Speech installed? I presume so since I s'pose it uses a different programming track.

Appreciate the replies all.

Couldn't say for sure Kaleun....I don't use SH3Speech I'm afraid.

No reason why it shouldn't. Spacebar while in binoculars targets the unit in the binocular view at the time for the deck gun. There are voice commands in SH3Speech for that (See page 14 of the IKH for the various orders that can be used). If you are really clever, you can use SH3Speech to make up your own command and "chain together" two keyboard commands (you do this by making one command a "parent" command of another command - the parent always gets executed first, followed by the child command). Instructions on how to do this are in the SH3Speech documentation.

Have fun - sink 'em all! :know:

Oh and the reason that I set up different key commands was exactly because the res fix mod "breaks" the use of some of the function keys - so I reprogrammed all the commands on the non-functioning keys to other key combinations so everything would work properly.
