View Full Version : unsinkable jap subs

i was wondering if anyone ever figured a way to make the unsinkable japanese subs sinkable?
last i heard it was said it might be hard coded that way but little has been mentioned about since.
assuming its still unfixable, why not completely reskin a surface ship that will sink like a sub chaser as the larger jap sub and use a small gunboat for the mini sub?
just thinking if you added these subs to the game yourself then there is no hardcoded issue right? all they do is sit there in ports as targets but refuse to sink (but when atacked they will submerge)
EDIT: the sen toku sub has been fixed and even works in the game as an AI ship but i revived this old thread to learn about the midget sub which the last i knew about was still being investigated for a fix. some progress was made up to a point but as far as i know it is still not fixed and therefore still unsinkable. hopefully it will be revisited and the solution may be found for that sub as well.

I actually did sink a Sen Toku with four torps. I have never been able to sink the mini sub though. I never had one submerge on me before though, but I only tried this once. Right now I am working on making the Sen Toku playable but having trouble linking to a conning tower, since the 'in game' sub doesn't have one. It will be a new sub so it should have the damage of the parent sub I'm using so it should sink.

are you sure you really sank it? i thought i was sinking them but on closer inspection using the external free camera i saw that the sub had merely submerged to rest on the bottom and had no list or visual damage and there was no metal bulkhead noises a sunken ship makes.
i watched it closely and saw that it will only submerge evenly in a controlled decent to rest on the bottom which i believe is just a trigger response to being attacked.
as for the mini sub i hit one with torpedo and it flew right out of the water up in the air about to the top of the crane and landed on the other side of the dock wall and about 4 bays over only to pop back up like nothing was wrong and i couldnt believe it.

Haha and I thought I had a bad luck or something, when I tried...
I once sent, I think, 6 or 8 torpedos into one of these subs, and all it did was to slowly rest on the bottom and slide forwards VERY slowly.
No credits in the log book either...
Yeah, it would be nice with a destructable sub as target, but till someone can do it, I'll just stay away from them...

well my position is if they cant be destroyed then there should be a way to delete them or prevent the game from spawning them.
the gun crews will not shoot at any other target as long as there is a sub in range so i want to make the subs invisible to the gun crews or just remove the sub from the game altogether.
at this point they are not targets but eye candy that sometimes interferes with the subs gun crews.
i see people creating new skins for ships and actually adding new ships to the game so thats why i thought if you recreated your own version, maybe it would act as it is supposed to.
you could "borrow" everything for the jap subs file to create a completely "new" sub file so when generated it would be a sinkable target.

I find it very annoying considering that the game has renown for the Midget sub and the Sen-toku sub.
"I actually did sink a Sen-Toku with four torps." -peabody
I did the same thing Sir except that even though the sub went down, it didn't say "Enemy Unit Destroyed" in the message box.
I have a renown PDF that states that the Sen-toku has 400 points while the Midget has 100 points. I tried to sink a Sen-toku sub with 4 torps... and it didn't sink!:nope:

I even torped a Midget sub and it flew around like a bb in a boxcar! It settled down after that and even that didn't sink!:x Could this be some kind of bug or some kind of joke from Ubisoft? Does the enemy subs truly submerge when they are attacked or is it really flooding?

Does the enemy subs truly submerge when they are attacked or is it really flooding?
well my reasoning is this:
1 - when it goes down it is a level decent like its only submerging not sinking
2 - there are no noises heard from it as all sinking ships make
3 - the map shows the ship is still there and is not sunk
4 - if you surfaced the gun crew wouldblast away at the sub even though its underwater
5 - no visable damage can be seen anywhere and when on the bottom, the subs sits level and upright
so for these reasons i say its just a submerge defensive response to your attack and not sunk
my guess is wherever the hit points are for these subs they must be set to a really high number which is why they only submerge after 4-6 torps and not just 1.
i wonder if we set the crush depth for it to be 1 meter below surface depth if that would sink it?
next time you see one fire 4 torps at it from a distance then race over to it using the free cam and sit underwater near where the torps will hit. after impact what how the sub reacts.

Very good bit of information Sir.:) However, doesn't anyone else still find it rather quite troublesome? I mean, you can literally pump those subs full of torps and they still won't do down!:nope: Seriously! If you even hit it with 2-4 torps, won't it go down, like a rock? I have no trouble on sinking the German U-boat in the Single Missions in TMO.:-? Perhaps some kind of glitch? Maybe if someone has enough skill, they can look at the data for the U-boat in TMO so then we could finally get to sink the Japanese subs... once and for all... and finally get the renown to boot!:D:arrgh!:
In my last career I sunk two Jap fleet subs. one torp each and they blew up. This was in the open ocean, not in port, 1944 I believe. Using TMO 1.5 and RSRDC.

i remember someone had a post saying they found a way to fix the sen toku so it can be sunk but could not do it for the mini sub. i think it was keltos but not sure.
try replace the sen toku folder in the submarine folder with the one from tmo, my guess is that would fix it but i cant say the actual file or files within it but its probable the cfg and sim files.
since i posted this i've been so busy with other things i havent gotten back to playing the game in a long time. i'll have to look into finding that post on how to fix it so i can add it to my game.

YES YES YES! While looking through the thread for mods I found an AI Sen Toku and have linked it in my thread. The thread guy said he changed the CMDR Enemy Sub (or something) to CMDR Enemy Ship, so it sank.
I feel really good about myself right now.

i haven't encountered any but if you find on id deep water their attack response might back fire :arrgh!:

well when i tested in deep water it slid out of range and disappeared but never showed as sunk and no renown was given so it didnt die from crushing either :damn:
mobius22 said he had a link to a fix for it on his mods list page so we can try that.

I sank one as well. Same mod setup as you. Got credit but noticed when I returned to port it wasn't credited as a warship but a merchant.:88)

thats because in order to "fix" it he had to change how the game "sees" it

I've also sunk one with TMO. I am running the AI Sen Toku.
I saw the wiggle on radar on my way home to Pearl out of Hiroshima. I followed it and found the sub trekking at 13 knots on the surface. Put one torpedo into her, blew up real nicely. I got credit for it but she didn't sink, just floated there on the waves.
I have a friend who recently said he sunk a Sub in stock - un-modded 1.5.
Quote from an email:
.... "I headed SW down the Jap coast to see if I could pick up a few targets on the way back south, I encountered a few fishing boats which I sunk with the 20MM's and then moving down the coast I got another radar contact moving slow, I figured it was another fishing boat when to my surprise it was a Jap Sub. I dove to periscope depth and when the target got to 900 yd's range I fired sinking it. This is the first time I ever remember seeing a Jap Sub, this is my 10 patrol and I had about 18 patrols before upgrading to 1.5 and this was the first one. Did you ever see one?"
I think some are 'unsinkable' because of the shallow water; similar to other ships people try to sink in harbors that can't completely sink. - And maybe those mentioned above that dived to the bottom probably evaded the torpedoes??
However, I didn't think to ask my friend if he got credit for the sinking in his logbook. I love sinking Subs (not mine though ;-) but so far I haven't been lucky enough to find any.

was it a Sen Toku or another type ?

keltosMust have been a Sen Toku class - he didn't say in the email. There are only the Sen Toku & midget classes in the stock 1.5 Jap roster as far as I know.

same here, Palawan passage, late 1944, I detected a sub, closed to 1900 yds and fired 4 bow tubes.... I spread them and set them for 10-15 ft, contact, got one hit in mid target and one in the aft torpedo room... burned and sank.

well i should point out guys that this thread started before the sub was fixed and made sinkable and then was included into TMO (not sure about RFB)
i revived this old thread to learn about the second sub in the original post, the midget sub which was still being investigated for a fix. some progress was made up to a point but as far as i know it is still not fixed and therefore still unsinkable. hopefully it will be revisited and the solution may be found for that sub as well.
