Okay, this is now bugging me. Is there a mod for 1.5 that gives both real names and images for the medals on the US side (or both sides)?

I have RSRD installed, which gets me real names, but not the images.

Well they were changed in the first place to avoid copyright violations. I don't see how a mod can get around this...You could always try to edit the names yourself I guess.

Because US military medals are in the public domain?

(I know the MOH isn't, technically, but I think the difference is close enough as to be insignificant.)

Also, it was done for 1.0-1.4, but I know UBM changes things so that a lot of mods don't work.

Yes this has been done, it is in a mod that was redone it's called Midnite's Realistic Decorations (U.S. Navy) v1.2 (SH4 1.5 English)

and I also have included his mod into my uniform mod (John Hamm's uniform Mod v2.2 and v2.3

There are no legal restrictions on using images of U.S. medals in video games (for the umpteenth time).

From my post of 4/27/07-

"OK, let's clarify something here.
First, paragraph 701 pertains to "whoever manufactures, sells, or possesses any badge, identification card, or other insignia, of the design prescribed by the head of any department or agency of the United States for use by any officer or employee thereof." This pertains to official badges used by the FBI, Secret Service, Department of Energy, etc. Has absolutely nothing to do with military medals. Read on.

Paragraph 704 states "Whoever knowingly wears, manufactures, or sells any decoration or medal authorized by Congress for the armed forces of the United States, or any of the service medals or badges awarded to the members of such forces, or the ribbon, button, or rosette of any such badge, decoration or medal, or any colorable imitation thereof, except when authorized under regulations made pursuant to law, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both." Specific section on punishment for wear of MOH not entitled to it are discussed in para (b).

There is absolutely no prohibition on imagery of U.S. medals or insignia on clothing, coffee cups, or in video games... :damn: "

I have Midnite's medal mod and it is an enormous improvement over the Cracker Jacks vanilla variety.
Just came back from my second patrol and was awarded a second Navy Cross, but no gold star came up on the ribbon.:arrgh!:

In the original SH, multiple awards for the skipper were handled correctly. That is the medal shadow box showed gold stars on the medal ribbons, gold stars being the Navy equivalent of oak leaf clusters until you got to five then you got a silver star to replace the five gold stars.
Has anyone done that for SH4?
