Periscopes TDC 1.1 by Nicolás
-------------------------------------------
Features:
- All the TDC in the attack and observation periscopes, allows fast input and
reading of the solution data.
- AOB Finder, extracted from U-Jagd Tools, to get AOB and speed accurately.
You can do a 3000 m shot this way!.
U-Jagd Tools is an excelent "work of joegrundman, Hitman and from about halfway through the project Onelifecrisis."
- You can use the stadimeter for the range.
Notes:
- To toggle the autoupdate of the tdc, you can use the Z key (to toggle silent running use Ctrl-Z)
(The included Commands_en.cfg it's a copy of the gwx 2.1 one but with this new key bind).
No indicator if the tdc is on auto or off.
- The AOB finder is set to work on 10x observaton peri. and 6x zoom attack periscope.
This mod includes Cameras.dat file for each mod to adjust the zoom.
18/05
Ver 1.0.1
- Included stock sh3 redmask for the periscope, due to the graphic problem with the 'night filter', AOB Finder lowered a bit.
18/06
Ver 1.1
- Some graphic improvements.
- Added U-Jagd Tools draggable chrono.
- More precise horizontal scale in the aob finder.
- Z toggles tdc autoupdate, you can use Ctrl-Z to toggle silent running (reason for the change is comfort)

Hi!
Looks really great - :rock:
but there will be no red "torpedo los" button?:hmm: :D
Nicolas

I was sure someone will be missing that button.

I tested it in academy and noticed missing white tube numbers in tubes selection salvo switch. The knob is working, rotating - but there are no white numbers. In Torpedo Data Computer screen (F6) everything is ok - the numbers are in right place.
I'm playing with GWX 2.1.
Sorry for my english:oops:

oops!, it seems to be first bug!, i saw the numbers in 2.1 (picture above is gw 2.1) maybe something bad typed at last moment. Dont worry my english is worse.

Nicolas,
Hello, I would like to try your mod, but I am having installation problems. I am running GWX 2.01. I read the readme, but your directions are not clear to me. Installation:
- Go to 'Installation' folder and copy to this folder the files 'Menu.moddata' and 'Dials.moddata'
corresponding to your Sh3 mod.
- Run MenuModInstaller and
- Select in there the 'Data' folder of sh3.
- Click Modify! button.
(2 new files will be created in the 'Installation' folder: the menu_1024_768.ini and Dials.cfg). I'm not sure to what "installation" folder you are talking about. I tried creating my own folder and putting the *.moddata files into that, tried putting the *.moddata files into the Persicope TDC 1.0 folder that comes with your mod and tried several other combinations, but had no luck when I ran your MenuModInstaller. Although I located the SH data folder, the installer kept giving me the error message "nothing to do, both menu.moddata and dials.moddata files are missing." So, I am at a loss as to what to do. I know that your utility is supposed to create menu_1024_768.ini and Dials.cfg files, but I can't get it to do that. :hmm:
Can you help me out? Thanks.
Nicolas

Sorry for my lack of expression in english, it seems to get worse every day,
Below 'Installation' folder (the folder that have MenuModInstaller.exe) are 3 folders
'gwx', 'nygm', 'stock or other'. If you use gwx, you need to copy the 2 .moddata files that are in 'gwx' into the same folder of MenuModInstaller.exe (the 'Installation' folder) and run the tool from there.
Look, this line is in the source code of the tool:
Open App.Path & "\Menu.moddata" For Input As #1
'app.path' is the folder where the tool is in.
It looks in the same folder for the file 'menu.moddata'.
I can't reproduce the error you tell me. If is in there the 2 files it must work.
You are running the tool directly?
I want to help. Tell if you cant get it working.

i should test my work when something tell me to do so :damn: , i know now why olc gui has no red colors in the night, the aob finder just get 'red' in some areas and bright in others (bright in the part on top of the visual).
I know how to fix though,
just imagine the captain lights something to see better the disc :know: :dead:

Nicolas,
Thanks for your reply. I followed your new instructions and was able to succesfully run the MenuModInstaller. It created the necessary .ini and .cfg files, which I copied into the correct sub-folders of my "Installation" folder.
In ...\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\en_menu.txt:
Search for 1107 in the file, and copy/paste below that line if not present this:
GWX and Stock:
;selection dial
1171=I,III,II,IV
1172=I,II,IV
1173=I,III,IV
1174=I,IV
1175=II,III
1176=I,III
1177=II,IV
1178=V,VI What I did here was take a copy of the en_menu.txt file in my Ubisoft folder and put it into my Installation\data\Menu\ folder. I then copied the above lines and placed them into the new en_menu.txt file and saved the new file. This way I can ensure JSGME compatability without messing up my original SH3 files. Comprende?
In conclusion, I think it should work. One more question, though: can I enable the mod in mid-patrol or should I wait until I am back at base? Please don't worry about your english, it works very well. I was just a little dense with your instructions. If I had to come to a spanish-language forum and ask you a question, you would think I was from another planet, or an idiot. (No, just a North American)!! :rotfl::rotfl::huh:
Thanks again. I look forward to trying your mod!
Nicolas

You welcome. Thanks to you...
I never studied english, only a little in high school. My teacher of english was the pc and movies :lol:
You can enable in mid patrol.
Also, remember that the root folder ('Periscopes TDC 1.0.1') of the trouble 'installation' folder, contains other folder 'Periscopes TDC 1.01' :88) with the folder structure and necessary files that the mod needs; on there must be copied the files. The root folder just gives a name.
Any suggestion/problem you are welcome

Hi mate, is this mod jsgme ready?:hmm:
Nicolas
05-19-08, 05:30 PM
Yes it is, but you must do some steps first, it uses a tool i created to allow installing the mod on any version.
By the way, i vote in 2 countries, Uruguay, and Italy, my grandfather was an italian, he ran away from Italy to Uruguay due to this horrible war. I give thanks to God, that here always existed peace.
The install intructions are in a readme.txt:
Installation:
- Copy to this readme.txt folder the files 'Menu.moddata' and 'Dials.moddata' corresponding to your Sh3 mod.
- Run MenuModInstaller and
- Select in there the 'Data' folder of sh3.
- Click Modify! button.
(2 new files will be created: the menu_1024_768.ini and Dials.cfg).
- Copy or move the new menu_1024_768.ini file to '...\Periscopes TDC 1.0\Data\Menu'
Copy or move new Dials.cfg file into '...\Periscopes TDC 1.0\Data\Menu\Cfg' folder.
- Copy the correct Cameras.dat file to '...\Periscopes TDC 1.0\Data\Library
- In ...\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Menu\en_menu.txt:
Search for 1107 in the file, and copy/paste below that line if not present this:
GWX and Stock:
;selection dial
1171=I,III,II,IV
1172=I,II,IV
1173=I,III,IV
1174=I,IV
1175=II,III
1176=I,III
1177=II,IV
1178=V,VI
NYGM: no need.
- Move or copy the folder to your MODS folder and Enable the mod using JSGME,
if you have prior version dont forget to disable it first.

Nicolas,
Just thought I'd let you know that I have your mod up and running! If I knew how to post a screenshot to the forum, I would show you, so you will just have to take my word for it! Thank you!
Two minor quibbles. First, why no TDC on/off switch in the GUI? Is it a matter of not enough room? Second, there seems to be a white line or something a few pixels long at the bottom of the persicope (F3) screen. Hadn't noticed it before, so was wondering if your TDC GUI might be causing this.
Other than that, everything looks great! I will be looking to sink ships with my new toy as soon as possible.
In regard to your English. Wow! You learned all that from watching American television?!! And they say that TV is not educational! :rotfl::know:
Salute!
Nicolas

Glad to know you get it working!
About the tdc switch, i wanted to put it, but you need to use the toggle of the rudder, or speed, etc, and when you switch the tdc also switchs the rudder...
I need to fix the white line.
Im happy how it works, but i admit its not very nice with the eyes.
I have plans in the future to put back the buttons of Fire Mark and up/down periscope in the upper-left corner. And replace Range and Angle on bow: with icons instead of text.
I attacked a convoy escorted by 3 or 4 dd's in heavy seas, sink an orie carrier and a medium cargo from more than 2000 m, i escaped and reloaded and before making a second attack the rain just started, and not wanting to risk the boat i leave them.

Another couple of questions: Is there a reason why you switched the observation scope with the attack scope? Second, can you briefly explain how to use the AOB tool? Thanks.
Nicolas
05-20-08, 07:18 PM
The reason for 6x zoom on the attack peri. is for short-medium range attacks.
And short range attacks its better doing it with the attack periscope because it suppose to be smaller and less visible than the observation periscope.
I could leave the observation periscope on 4.5 but i decided 10x zoom, you can do more exact range readings, and observe the flags better, and do long range shots.
About the use of aob finder, you can read the u-jagd tools mod manual from which the aobfinder is extracted. I can upload it.

Hello.
Lets see,
if you use gwx for example do this:
-Copy menu.moddata and dials.moddata files from 'GWX' to 'Installation'
-Run Menumodinstaller utility and click 'Select data folder' then locate de 'data' folder of sh3 and doble click it and click OK.
- Click 'Modify!' button
-Copy the created file 'menu_1024_768.ini' from 'Installation' folder to '...\Periscopes TDC 1.0.1\Periscopes TDC 1.0.1\Data\Menu' folder
-Copy the created file 'dials.cfg' from 'Installation' folder to '\Periscopes TDC 1.0.1\Periscopes TDC 1.0.1\Data\Menu\Cfg' folder
-Copy Cameras.dat from 'GWX' folder to '\Periscopes TDC 1.0.1\Periscopes TDC 1.0.1\Data\Library' folder
- Copy the folder 'Periscopes TDC 1.0.1' with the new files to your MODS folder (do not copy the root Periscopes tdc 1.0.1 folder)
- Enable using JSGME,
If you cant get it working post here your questions and i will try to help.
till now, i used the olc gui. but yesterday, i tested your mod, and i am happy with it because of the included stadimeter. i like to have different possibilities to get the target data, depending on situation. sometimes, i take them in a waiting position without making a knot, sometimes it is better to take them while traveling beside the target. thats why i need both methods of speed calculation, the stock method with the stopwatch and the aob reader method. would it be possible to implement the stock stopwatch method to your mod?
Nicolas
06-12-08, 03:35 PM
Hi.
When i was making the mod, the intention was to include the stock thing to get speed, but, i got strange readings of 100 or more knots, the cause maybe was the aob its not present or wrong, because de aobfinder uses the aob dial.
One trick to get the speed quick is to lock the ship, observe where the middle of the ship is, then time until the middle of the ship pass not the end, and divide the result in the aobfinder by 2.

06-12-08, 07:52 PM
Nicolas you could also include the U-jagd Stoppuhr -- that for me is the single most useful thing in the U-jagd pack. Especially the version with the extra 75m scale. It makes speed calcs much easier. I know you can do it with the AOB finder, but i never bother with that. The stoppuhr is much faster and plenty accurate enough

Thanks for your help. But I followed your instruction, locate the "Data" folder of SH3 and clicked the "Modify" (Step 3 above), all I got was the message:
"Run time error '62'
Input pass end of file"
Maybe due to other mods? I have no idea. And knowing that you are going to make a updated version, maybe I should a bit longer before trying it again. Thanks for your help again, Nicolas!

By installing Periscopes TDC 1.1 under Chinese version Windows XP, MenuModInstaller 1.01 always got a runtime error 62 - input past end of file
Trying new msvbvm60.dll, same result. Trying AppLocale to force the application using English codepage, same result.
Cut the Menu.moddata piece to piece, finally find the string "Torpedofächer" cause the problem. replace it with English string, program run. Debug took me 2.5 hours.
I guess the msvbvm60.dll (even English version) always using GBK codepage ignoring AppLocale setting in Chinese version XP. I can not wish your VB program can do something for that. But please don't use Europe character in config files and especially don't use it for filename. Thanks!

Sorry for what I saying in last post. You did great works! The language compatible problem of VB string function is not your fault.
What I most want now is the indicator of the tdc auto update on or off. Without it, there are more chance to make mistake.
In fact it's the connetcion of periscope bearing with the TDC target bearing and the AOB compensation movement switch. If we have set AOB, we should always (or almost always) put it on for otherwise the AOB will not maintain the precision when you set it. When we are using periscope there are no reason to turn it off, unless you want launch torpedo by using sonar. But the stupid SH3 design do not allow you set the three key parameters: speed, AOB, range while auot update is on. So we had to turn it off for manual setting.
other things:
It really took me time to find out the U-jagd Stoppuhr. I checked the .ini and .cfg file and don't understand why the board do not pulldown while I click on it. Until I accidently drag it, then I know the word draggable does not mean pulldownable.
No picture for AOB finder in right panel, wish you can add something later.
May be you can add "The fixed yellow markings" in U-jaged tools for measuring range to AOB finder screen. Although it's not necessary.
I wish in F6 screen there are a big TDC pannel so we can manually input more precision. But I know it's need a lot of works and may be not use often. So I just say it, not wish anyone do it.

is it compatible with GWX2.1?
Thnaks and great mod!

Hello,
Yes it is compatible with any mod i think. Just follow carefully the installation instructions and it should work.
Hello Nicolas
What is the difference between your mod and OLC GUI ?
Nicolas
11-16-08, 12:01 PM
Hello i made like other mods from me, because the need to have something i wanted.
The stadimeter allows fast range calculation, and the dials are always visible, allows to read the solution without deactivate the auto tdc, and fast input nothing more. To get fast solutions its good... it not has the Fire and Lock buttons i want to place somewhere those buttons back...
It uses the same AOB finder of the OLC gui to get aob and speed.
....
Best way to know its testing.
