View Full Version : Ships without flags?

I'm frequently spotting allied merchants which don't have any flag at all. Has SH3 always been like that and I only just noticed? Is it a bug? Is it some historically accurate feature of SH3 or GWX?
I know they're allied (at least, the ones I've seen so far) because I tend to find them in allied/British convoys and when I sink them they show up as allied tonnage sunk. The last one was a Medium Cargo.
Any info would be great.

What mod are you using OLC ?
GWX I'm presuming.
Could you post a screenshot because there are a few additional imports out there at the moment.
I've only had this experience once and it was an imported model.....I just don't recall which one.
when you have several mods (or supermods) installed that can happen , the flags are in the flags.dat file if you have imported a country for example Czechia from WAC and your flags.dat file's GWX 2 one the ships from Czechia won't have flags there isn't that country in GWX 2

Hi Jim,
All I'm running is GWX 2.1 (with the Minor Fixes released by BBW) plus my Ubermod, which basically has new scene.dat, envcolour.dat(s), skycolour.dat(s) files, plus tiny tweaks to the GWX 2.1 materials.dat and particles.dat files, and of course my GUI. That's it - no ships added or modded.
Here's a Medium Cargo with no flag. Would have been better if I had snapped the shot quicker (while the eventcam was to the side of the ship) but you can see even in this shot that the flag is missing. For comparison, there's a museum shot of the same ship (with a flag) below it.

I've tried to replicate your prob (in museum and on patrol) thus far without any success.
Have you the 'community ships' mod enabled as well as the 'AOTD-AA-Ship-Schleuse-Bugfix' ?
If so, the community ships must be enabled with JSGME after the AOTD mod.

I don't get the problem in the Museum i.e. every ship I've looked at in the Museum has a flag.
As I said, I have no ship mods enabled. Here's my JSGME:

I don't see how my changes can affect flags at all. :hmm:
Scene and colour files certainly have no effect at all on whether or not flags appear.
My changes to the other GWX 2.1 files (in the Ubermod) simply involved changing the 'GlobalColorScale' of a lot of bitmap particle generators - I don't see how that can affect flags either. :hmm:

What CAN affect flags is haveing any tga's bearing the same name as existing
flag name tga's.
Also ID conflicts could raise the same issue.
As We all keep throwing more and more at the SH3 Engine?
It's getting picker and picker.
In GWX 2.0 Aircraft we saw pilots and crew vanishing!!
We found that renameing ALL tga's AND the final name assigned solved this.
So your tga may be called whosit.tga but the final name is Default!
Change both!
I rename everything now.
May not be your problem but it's good info!!

That’s not the Hsie patch the culprit. That’s TKSS18 German UBoat Compilation :yep:
Open it and delete Flags.dat (in Library folder) Then reactivate it you will bring back your flags.
Before he messes up his install and mod-backups:
1: In JSGME uninstall the last two mods (upto and including TKSS18 Geran Uboats complation)
2: Remove said file from the SH3Homefolder\MODS\TKSS18_something_mod\Data\Libra ry folder
3: Re-enable those last 2 mods in JSGME

yeah i was stalking a convoy at night in rough seas and i didnt even try to identify the ships nationality with the scope so i just used the external cam, to see ships sailing without any flags at all... i mean they were all darkened anyway but i like double checking things.
Having the same problem. I have a question: is it *flag.dat* I should delete or *flagS.dat*? I'm assuming the latter.

I can confirm that the culprit for this is the "TKSS18 German U-Boats Compilation" that causes the problem (or how you extract it).
The Mod comes in two folders available from here. (https://www.mediafire.com/?2h49jnyva7ncx#tjelo2wh1716c)
Download both folders to the same location then extract the first one ONLY as it should cause the second one to extract automatically to the same folder (watch the extract information as it happens and you ahould see it). If successful the folder will be in excess of 1.93 GB in size. Now place in game 'mods' folder and apply with JSGME as instructed.
