View Full Version : Crew suffocated despite surfaced (CO2 bug)
I know the CO2 bug has been discussed before, but I couldn't relevant threads. Anyway, today this happened the 1st time to me in a career: After being submerged for 1-2 hrs I surfaced my Balao, but all crew remained below deck. Nevertheless the sub moved along the surface like normally. I tried to man the deck guns, order all men to battle stations, to no avail - the crew stayed down. Dived and surfaced again - no change, all crew below deck. Gradually the CO2 went up and finally the crew crumbled to the floor and died. There was no way I could stop it.:nope::dead:
I have SH4 1.5 TMO, RSRD and PE3 installed, newest versions/patches. Is there any news on how to prevent this or what specifically is causing this?:o:hmm:

Hiya ustahl,
Maybe no help
I had it 2wks ago, The first time ever
I saved all mods i had used, Did a game re-install with mods etc
Not had co2 problem since
also i read that maybe you can use the icon that flashes up since 1.5 for surfacing when high co2, dunno the exact icon name/symbol (i shove them offscreen as i find them a pain and really gross)
Well maybe someone's found a difinative fix or work around ?
Cheers

Hi Def,
I forgot to mention that I clicked on that little CO2 alert icon you are referring to, and it immediately caused a surface command. Ie. each time I clicked that alert icon the sub "surfaced" despite being on the surface all the time. That behavior related of course to the game buggily thinking I was submerged (crew below) while I wasn't.... Anyway, nothing changed and the crew died.:dead:

I have never experienced this at all. Ever.
I have my suspicions about what may cause it, but suffice to say, i try to save my games on the surface at night time when its least likely to encounter a plane. Ive also never used the warning icon to surface, but instead just hit the S key.
*shrug* dunno what else to say, ive never experienced it.

I've had the CO2 bug occur several times with 1.5 now, and I've resolved it by surfacing and then saving the game, then exiting to the Main Menu. When you restore the save game, the CO2 bug has been eliminated and you can continue the mission.
I read in another thread about the persistent CO2 buildup bug, after experiencing it myself the other day. It went away after I saved the game to a new file, quit the game, started it up again, and loaded my recently saved game. Everything was fine after that.
I think there may be a memory leak issue, such that if you have been playing the game for 3+ hours, strange things start to happen. Perhaps the game is telling us, in its own way, that we should take a break. :p

Hiya's,
Well i for one hate the modern gamey looking pop-up icons
Ok the refuel/re-arm is needed as is the dagger drop raft off
But who wants to know at periscope depth they are under water ??? lol
Got so bad i made my 1st mod and got shot off all pop-up icons except the green anchor (re-arm/refuel ohh and the dagger for landing a boat)
Anyways, Like Ducimus i never use any icons except the 2 stated
Always save at playing speed and on the surface (this was mainly to stop the dive planes not working visually but this still happens now n again)
Try as Ducimus says with the S key (i use S or click the blow ballast to come up fast and try so shoot out of the water he he)
Hope you get someway sorted so you don't asphyxiate the crew again !
Have Fun
Ciao

Had this the other day, first time ever. Hadn't saved the game, and was on the way home from almost a whole patrol (6 hours + gameplay, something I don't get to do often.)
I have TMO, RSRD, 1.5, dive rate mod.
Really odd.
