I've tried various sound mods,I'm using Reece's excellent alternative SFX mod at the moment,and I'm always getting the same result,half of my crews answers to my orders can be barely heard,it seems like the sound mix levels have all gone to pot!:nope:I'm also using Reece's sound fix for GWX2.1 and Rubini's lifeboats V2 which is enabled first,then the sound mod.is there any way to adjust the volume level of the crew other than in the options menu,which is already turned full up:doh:all help appreciated:up:

Hi, you obviously have the latest SH3.sdl file, did you always have this problem or just recently, I use it ofcourse with no problems, did you try disabling the mod and testing in the Naval Academy? Do you have silent running on? are they actually wispering or just low in volume?:-? Just a few start off questions!
Edit: Also check the main.cfg in the "C:\Documents and Settings\your profile\My Documents\Sh3\data\cfg" folder, the Sound section should be:

[SOUND]
Music=Yes
VolumeGeneral=150
VolumeMusic=98
VolumeFx=98
VolumeSpeech=100

Hope this helps.

I had this problem when I had accidentally set Windows sound to be 7.1 surround when I only have stereo headphones.

Hi Reece,nope silent running isn't on;)the problem is just recent and the men are just low in volume of sound,I will look at the setting's you've posted and let you know.on another computer I'v got running I have your mod running with GWX2.0 and it runs like a dream:up:its just on this computer since I've upgraded to GWX2.1 every time I try to add a sound mod the levels of volume go to pot:doh:other than that its running fine:rock:it wouldn't be such a problem but my hydrophone guy is so quiet and my map guy is almost mute:nope:not good for a succesful patrol;)

I've tried your settings Reece and the problem seems to be that what ever value I put in the "Volume speech" has no effect,the crews volume is unaffected:damn:I put in 150 and they were still quite quiet:nope:don't know what to do other then disable all sound mods and start again:damn:I've got to the point where every bit of fun that I have with this game is rapidly evaporating:nope:

Yes it seems obvious that something went wrong somewhere:doh: I think if it were you I'd disable all mods & test, failing that only a rebuild of SH3 & GWX is all you could probably do!, one last ditch effort is to check your computers sound settings, is there a problem with any other app or is it only SH3?:-?

Sadly it appears to be only SH3,this is a fresh install from new so I will just disable the mod and try and find a solution,thank you for your help:up:

On a related note, sometimes my radio guy sounds like a castrato soprano while the speed guy has a deep, resonant bass voice. Not sure if this is due to TC or on purpose. :lol:

It appears my problem only happens when submerged,on the surface all voice's are loud and clear:hmm:even undoing all mods does not appear to have any effect:nope:

:hmm: Just to rule it out as a possibility, are you using SH3Cmdr? If so, have you modified the TC settings at all and if you have did you read the Troubleshooting section of the User Guide first?

I have modified the TC settings via SH3cmdr:up:but nothing wild,and during a mission I never go above 128TC for the very reason's your thinking;)Mr jscones.as I said,the game is running beautifully,graphics are wonderful and everything,just this bloody silent crew thing which is driving me nuts:nope:its such a shame if I have to do an install again,what with everything running so well,if I could sought the sound out I'd be in clover:up:any ideas?anyone:oops:

Cool. I just wanted to rule out you changing the "Character animations", "Sound effects" and/or "Particle rendering" Time Compression events to 1, because that creates sound problems. ;)

So unfortunately I'm out of further ideas.

Well this may not help now Nic but when I installed SH3 stock 1.4b I copied the entire SilentHunterIII folder to a DVD, I then installed GWX2 & 2.1, then did the same, now if I have any problems I can simply delete all files & folders, except the Mods folder, I go in there & delete the backup folder.:yep: Now I can simply restore to either Stock 1.4b or GWX 2.1 by simply copying the appropriate one from the DVD, easy, no uninstalling or re-installing, & if you select to put GWX back in then just enable the Mods!:up:
I say this so that if you do re-install from scratch, then make the backup DVD's.:yep:
Cheers.
