Hello!
Before I say what is this about, here is a link to this thread:

Racerboy made that wonderful mod for sh3, if you read post up there you will know what he added to the game. Lots of his life hours went to this mod. Since he got away I was doing this mod..
Finally, he is back!

CHEERS TO HIM!

That's about the intro to this stuff.

This is an effect mod (that means it covers all fires, smokes, explosions, trails, and such things you see in game) for GWX 2.1. The best way to enable is when you are in port.

This is eight release, just an update, nothing much. Test it..


TAKE NOTE!!! NOTA BENE!!!
These pics were taken on original GWX 2.1 scenery and some with OLC ubermod or OLCE2, ofcourse on GWX 2.1. It is much the same explosion, only smokes are slightly different..

The mods also used while taking those pics AND PLAYING with this mod are sukhoi's das boot faces, torpedo damage final v2, lifeboats v2a, v3b, waterstream v4, LRT, interior dive planes, open hatch, sboot, OLC'S Ubermod 2.41, OLCE2, olceguispecial for olce, shipbuoyancy, just to name the few..

Final moments of this destroyer as seen by me:arrgh!: (NOTE: this pic was taken on LITE version of this mod), in full version this looks somewhat better..

Version 2.04C:
-fixed oil smokes not dissapearing after the fire vanishes
-I fixed his major bug with smokes, they are not dissappearing anymore
-reduced some minor things(funnels and such)

Version 2.04D:
- adjusted smokes to look more windy
- adjusted some values to, with olc's approval, make this mod "more" compatible to his ubermod
- added "little if any" feature

Version 2.04e:
- added lite version
- fixed distress flare
- added bonus - flags for some uboots(2d7b. 9b, 7c, 9c but "some" because not for all versions of those boots and made a version compatible to ubermod)
- added some new work from d.kruger
- made the mod compatible to lrt 2.02 final
- made new texture for smokes - easiest part
- redid the smokes
- added fake wind effect to smokes

Version 2.04f:
- removed the addon flags from the main mod
- fixed some little mistakes
- removed "hurricane" effect(funnel smoke in one, fire smoke in other direction)
- reduced the size of fires
- removed the second flag and my custom models for 9c(messes 9d2)
- added the flag to every turm in game that had flag stick originally

Version 2.04f1:
- fixed warship funnels
- added sukhoi's all das boot officer faces(complete mod)
- added empty campaign files

Version 7.1:
- please read readme included for details and some of my aims and thoughts in the contenplations section

Ok, on my ff page you will find this file(hope they function properly):

2. Rbs8Flagis.rar

This is the addon with flags for GWX 2.1 uboots. But only for those uboots that had flag pole or stick originally on the turm. For other uboots, I have to eat some more..


3. Rbs8Flagiswithoutreflect.rar

This is the same addon as Rbs8Flagis but with removed reflections to make it compatible to OLC UBERMOD'S remove GWX 2.1 reflections

Possible and actual bugs, to improve and fix(this should be last?):
- check out page 4 for info on the subject
- when stuff ejects to the surface of the water after the sinking of the ship, effect like depth charge appears and vanishes rather quickly , maybe I can fix that later, but the oil spot is black
- when you hit your own torpedo with a torpedo, there are debris flying in the air, though original torpedo continues to run
- writting of this thread is hard, cheers to all the merrymen who wrote stuff like this NEW! It's easier than making the mod..

The only real drops of fps:
1. When big oil explosion or splinter explosion starts, many generators start and that kills fps, it lasts for few seconds, but after that everything is ok
2. when oil burns on the surface, it "mingles" with smokes from regular fires, so when you get close to it, fps drops you will encounter- currently can't do nothing about that

About the compatibility:
- without risk(check it!) ONLY with GWX 2.1(by the way exiting Kiel is now something my computer doesn't like, but I like it very much)!!!
- compatible with olc ubermod, enable this mod after olc's
- compatible with waterstream mod, enable this after the mod
- life boat mod, howto is explained in the readme of this mod(READ IT!!!!)
- lrt 2.02 final
- sboot mod
- any other mod not messing this files, ofcourse if they are for gwx 2.1
NOTE! v204d add some things to sea folder so sea folder is needed, BUT NOT CRUCIAL, the worst thing could happen your warship has a smoke like merchant..
- can be used with special effects v1.00(try first, then shoot), you can see my pic on humorous sh3 pics thread..
- can't be used or DON'T USE IT WITH ENHANCED DAMAGE EFFECTS!!!!
- I think since I worked on origigi Rb particle file(I can't check all the effects and generators) and since it has some minor new stuff from GWX 2.1 that this mod is playable with gwx 2.0, try it!

That's about it. This is the release numero seven, don't be hard on me, if it works 100% ok with gwx 2.1, still not shure but I'm 99.9999%, ok not that much, I will continue rb's work, although, huh :roll: would be better he does it.

ubergruber - for making me feel bad and giving me a good idea
Sukhoi - cannot understand him or get to him, but his mod(das boot faces) is in original state, so if anybody knows him, tell me!

everybody - so many fans of the das boot.. I have to admitt, I don't have that film anymore. It was on VHS. My gf asked me to save some stupid, f....h movie and I accidentally erased it. :doh:

SEQUEL:
All law stuff is like rb said. Hope he doesn't sue me.
I wasn't shure will I add that or not. But it's kind a fun!
Try to use these files in commercial or any other way, as it is forbidden, I don't like to work, I will sue you.

Now, as you report possible bugs please can you follow this procedure:
1. if you see a bug, can you catch a screenie and post it?
2. explain the incident, why what where and who got involved
3. tell a good joke
4. report if you saw somewhere a nice thing that you feel might improve this mod
5. if you really feel that will improve this mod go bother that guy to let that things be used here
6. don't take seriously this last point
7. grab a beer

For wishes do as you please.
As bugs will rise day by day(;)) and wishes I will edit the "possible and actual bugs, to fix or improve" section in the first part of the thread, and work on it. As I fix it or improve it(houp days least, someone said), I will erase it or add it or provide an explanation and I will tell about new uploads of files. I'll edit the thread whenever I have something new to say. It is nearly every day so don't hate me.

It depends on who you are dealing with here at SUBSIM, in Rubini's case I think he would want you to check with him first. I am sure he won't have a problem with it, but that is up to him.

Well, finally this is finished... whew... For what I've been testing so far, this is looking very very good. The torpedo is leaving a major tail, but I don't really mind about that. Still have to test some of the explosions... But thank you for coming up with this, as a lot of people here didn't have the courage to stand up and assume this awesome work by another guy who unfortunally disappeared. That's the way to go, all efforts to making SH3 each day better!

Edit: I would change the line "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ENHANCED DAMAGE EFFECTS" to a bigger font, YELLOW, UNDERLINED, BOLD AND ITALIC! This is very important to avoyd confusion. Both mods have the same purpose, so they can't work together!

Thanks a lot for this one asanovic!

It's a lovely mod. However, I do find the number of bodies flying in the air with almost every explosion so unrealistic. :( And I hate to see them shaking in the water like mad. Ya, and those red flares... another overkill for me.

So, Mr. Asanovic, do you/could you please release a version with toned down bodies and flares (or remove them copletely)? I think it would be appreciated by far more people than me.

Just my two cents. Anyway, thank you for your hard work and not letting this mod die.

Hey, mkubani, thanks! Now, for the first step you should try with original GWX 2.1 zones.cfg file to tone down some effects. Now as for the bodies. Every explosions you see, they are effects, they have triggers what will happen when. Well, when you see big and small explosions, fires, or such they trigger such events as people flying in the air and flares. Yes, I agree, there is too many people and flares. Tone it down. But.. Imagine situation. Calm weather. Cramp stealer ahead. Deck gun. People flying through the air. Fun. Have you seen hollywood movies!?! :arrgh!:
Hmm.. Ok, seriously. I have one idea how to fix or improve that issue, will try this week!

As for the official stuff, I will work on the mod this week. Some issues demand to be solved promptly! My home internet connection sucks and as my college is closed for the remainder of the week because of the 1.st may, I will check in randomly to see for new suggestions, bugs. If I make something, I will upload it.
Hope people like this mod.

A da u tenisu jbg pa i mi u necemu da nam ide. Rado bi se ja menja samo da su nasi otisli na prvenstvo u fudbalu. Ali jbg ovako nam ostalo da se hvalimo tenisom.:damn:
Svaka cast na ovom poslu i sigurno cu probati samo da uhvatim vremena i zavrsim patrolu. Jos jednom pozdrav i nadam se da ce biti jos nekih modova iz komiske nam zemlje.:up:

Just an agreed upon set of how we should do things.
To avoid permission problems down the line.

I myself posted I would follow it.
That I was Keelhauled does not negate my agreement to those guide lines.
Hitman sticked it on a majority factor.
I will not be the one to toss sand in the cogs.

That some things don't fit in with certian plans does not give us the right
to ignore and /or rewrite things that do not appeal to us.

On that note,
Please feel free to PM me to continue this debate.
I do not wish to take it where it is going to go in public.

The point is, in his version the smoke seems to be "wind effected". It would be very appreciated if you could integrate this feature into your (and RB) great mod.:rock:

Btw, i do not like the red smoke on some fires. Thats of course my taste.:yep:

White theat "komšiska" i didnt think nothing wrong. I dont now how did u anderstud it but like i sead nothing bad. And our countries r nebors, and we use too live in the same country. For me personaly those were the hapy times. But never minde theat all the best for u . Like i saed i m glead sombady from thise prostora thite somthing good. I hope u will do same moore cool staf. Hello to all!
First of all, my new update is ready and waiting to be transfered. But.. Always there is a but. I apologize to everybody, but my new release I'll upload tomorrow, because my home net connection really sucks, it would take for ages, I'm so sorry for that.
In new update I fixed the smokes, I even fixed one issue about the smokes I didn't notice before in the "original" effects mod, I hope.
I added those secondary explosions, everything works perfect, or I would hope so. You never can be really shure.
I didn't touch the torpedo trails because my main focus were the smokes and explosions.
I didn't touch the bubbles when stuff hits the surface from the sinking ship, cause when I do that oil spots become "original" purple, so FOR NOW it stays that way!
These two bugs are not so noticeable!
As I said, I apologize, I will upload new files tomorrow! I think you will like the new release.
I'm dealing with the real live ship sounds. They work perfectly with the old rb's files(ofcourse on updated GWX 2.1 eqp files), but as for the new ships, I have to grasp their new coordinates. I hope I will deal with that. Any help is appreaciated! :know:

- myxale - I will answer to that when I test some things. But, for waterstream IMO this is compatible since it has waterspray image, but I didn't check new updates for waterstream so I will see to it tomorrow! As for OLC'S, he did changes to bubbles and smokes not so noticable in the night. It's a great change, but as for me I will ignore that cause his mod is too great. Now, in the future, maybe he will like my update so we will make it compatible.

3. Here is a start of the wind talks! I saw the pic from d.krueger today and as I tested last night some wind effects it is as I suspected. If I understood everything correctly(SOME WITH MORE experience cut me off, please!), you can change wind effects in particle generators only one way. To move it on x, y, z axis. Now x is in the direction of the ship, y is up, z is to the left of the ship. You want it to move on x and z axis and some small y. Now, I tried those with added 0,1 to x and z and the effect is like on the shown pic by the a6intruder, it seems as the smoke is leaning. Now the trouble is I felt silly to witness the same thing when wind was blowing to opposite direction.. And some other direction. AS a matter a fact, the smokes were just leaning no matter the wind in the same direction. If you want and if my tester suggestors want it, adding that is easy. But I left it this way, cause it's the same thing, it just leans to same direction. This one leans upwards :doh:

You've seen this mod with OLC UBERMOD 1.8.
Here is a pic where you will see(if any) differences. NOTE!!! I'm comparing smokes, bubbles and any other effects. I don't compare scenery(8 or 16 km, water reflections or s..t like that that are changed and/or, whatever you think improved by OLCE2 IN UBERMOD 1.8). I saw now 2.02 or something like that ;), sorry, I don't know exact number, it seems this is for now compatible with everything olc is throwing day by day. That guy released so many versions, amost as most I sank ships for testing. Cheers to him!

I said it and I'll say it again, I didn't touch anything but the smokes and I can prove it. I remember last time with rubini, this time I didn't do it! :know:

As for this. This comes with a question. The difference in sim files between waterstream v4 and GWX 2.1.. Not only the ranges are different in v4 and GWX 2.1, so are the draught values. Can someone please tell the truth? Other than that, you can see this mod is compatible to waterstream 100%.

Thanks to all for that A, five stars! Nevertheless, I must point out I'm still not shure(although I didn't encounter one bug, other than my card's freezing) if this is 100% compatible with 2.1 or that it is bugfree. Check it out!!! When you hit bug, POST IT! Although, you shouldn't hit any other than stamina problems for graphic cards.
There are many nodes and stuff in that files, it's easy to miss one..

If everyone agrees, I will today maybe do a lite version. Those smokes are fat with callories. It's tearing my card. Maybe do one with improved smoke volume tgas from that guy who did it for GWX(I'm really sorry I forgot the name).. It would just be a one-two file switch, I don't know, I think that is doable during the on sea status. And since I largely enjoy OLC's mod, it would be prudent to check out the original GWX 2.1 state of this mod. Maybe some colors are wrong. :doh: I don't think so, try. It's just hard to go back to the usual scenery:rotfl: .

I've read on olc's page an update about waterstream. It messes some things with the subs, and I will for now not use it. If improved version comes out you can see for yourself it's compatible.

Here are another two pics using this mod over olc's UBERMOD 1.8. The visual appearence may change if you use original GWX 2.1. Someone said give me pics, I just can't resist.

Has something changed with the fireball explosions in the 5-5 version? They disappear better than previously. I didnot see a flare yet but I only slaughtered 4 ships until now.

i just tried your/racerboy's mod, very nice effects ! Great to see SH4 effects in SH3 !!!

Only three questions:

1. Someone mentioned exhaust smoke from the U-boat's Diesels - i take it this is not included in this mod (?). Which mod has it, if someone can advise ?

2. Survivors in life rafts shouting for help is very good, however those "immersion sounds" with ships tooting and those whistles while attacking a convoy does not really fit in :lol: Should somehow be limited to harbour scenes :yep:

3. Hmm, maybe i overread this - i use Rubini's lifeboat and debris mod along with your mod - no need for both i guess?

Otherwise this is real good eye candy, great stuff.

Hi Catfish.
Its Rubini's Exhaust Mod V4 you need for exhaust smoke on yer sub. Thomsen did a Water Streams/ Exhaus Smoke compatible file which will be of use if you use Water Streams. As OLC said it apparently upsets the GWX gunnery but, well, how much that ruins your day is largely dependent on how you use your deck gun. I don't really use it that much and when i do i leave it to the crew and set 15sec reload time via SH3 Commander so its a minor nuance for me....much rather have the water streams to be honest. Anyway, pop over to Rubini's Water Stream Mod topic for thomsens file and then search the forum for the Exhaust Mod.

Hope this helps.

On a seperate note, i'd love to use this SH4 Effects for SH3 mod but not untill I can make it "really" compatible with GWX, OLC and LRT.

It would write a new file with both changes included.

Even that approach is not the perfect answer.

Firstly, couple of things..
This is an effect mod.. You can enable olc mod if you like olc mod and everything with that. So, enable olc mod. If you like to play this mod with olc mod or with your configuration of files(installation) (CHECK THE COMPABILITY SECTION, PLEASE!!!)enable this mod AFTER olc mod or whatever mod you are using. When JSGME asks about overwritten files, overwrite it. And play..
YOU DO NOT need olc mod TO PLAY THIS MOD, you can play this mod solely with GWX 2.1 OR with some mod on GWX 2.1 if THIS MOD is last enabled in your line of mods(that means if you have other mods using some of the files in this mod, check the compatibility issues, overwrite those files with this mod and read that damn readme :rotfl: ).
Second, you don't need LIFEBOATS V2A to play this mod, I just added the sdl file you enable after you enabled this mod and lifeboat mod(in any order). THAT MEANS OVERWRITE the sdl file with jsgme IF YOU ARE USING BOTH MODS. ONLY IF YOU USE LIFEBOATS MOD!!!
Third, read readme. :know:

But it's your right, and if you want it disabled(I will disable it in new release) you will have to read the readme files..
UBER GRUBER - what does "really" mean? If you have some info, you could disclose it for public.. So, that we can fix it and that's it.

I heared you and I really want to thank you for sharing the info. First, about your question for the fires, send me pm and I will answer the best I can.
Second, I didn't play flak artillery academy. I made myself a mission from the happy times with stukas overwhelming that poor convoy, they shot plenty so I didn't notice the flares. Maybe a difference with loadouts or id's of the files(instead of rockets??), I will check it today. There are a couple of ways to conduct investigation. Can someone please cruise through the rb's thread for some info on the subject or someone who tailed the thread(it has over 50 pages..)? Next, a6intruder can you make a screenie? I will test it myself today. Somewhere in my mind rings a bell, that Racerboy spoke of this bug only happening in flak artillery academy shootout.. I don't know why..
About the wind I will talk after the post with screnies for the v2.04C release, I hope on this page. I will explain it in so much detail, I hope you will feel you are in school!

As you can see clearly, oil smokes don't vanish when fires go out, anymore..
One itch could be those oil fires go out while ship is trying to sink, so maybe time should be adjusted. BUT! Try first and then judge!!!

This is how I figured the wind system, if someone knows better please call me a moron and explain correctly.
As you see this coordinate system in space(I know it's Cartesian but I don't know the right word) with x axis that is spreading in the ships direction, y axis is going up and z to the left of the ship(S..T, in the cross of the axis it's coordinates are x,y,z 0,0,0 so when I say spread in some direction it means that x is positive when going from 0 in the direction of the ship's stern and negative when going from the 0 in the direction of the ship's bow) .
Now, in properties of particle generators you have an windaffect number for the particles and wind properties for the whole thing. You can put number from 0-not affected by the wind to whatever(try if you like and know what to do) in windaffected number.
Now, wind properties for PG's consist of local and global x y z offsets. You should put 0, 0.1, 0.2 and so on to 1(don't know about other numbers, but I put 0,5, the smoke almost left the screen) into the xyz offsets. I tested a couple of times and didn't notice difference if you change local or global. The only thing I didn't do is to change them both :rotfl: . But, bear with me..
Now, in this mod y coordinate is affected, that meaning when wind is blowing the smoke will rise further.
So, to make smoke lean one way or the other, you have to change x and z. So, I added 0,1 to x and z in a hope when wind blows the smokes will be affected. And HOORAY, it leaned.. I don't know about you but I find that ridicoulous.. So, basically everytime you have a wind the smoke will lean in the same direction regardless of that wind's direction. So, I left things the way they are.
On a pic that a6intruder shown on page 3(if I'm not mistaken) from dkruger you can see what will happen ***InMyHumbleOpinion*** when you add the numbers I just talked about.
Why I think adding some other number doesn't affect the thing?
Cause if you figure out the system, when you add 0,1 to x axis, that means the smoke will lean in the direction of the ship.
When you then add 0,1 to z axis, the smoke will then lean to the left of the stern of the ship, if we say ship's direction is due north, the smoke will lean in north, northwestern direction.

Hope I am wrong.

As racerboy said, the trigger for "lighshow" is in splinter explosion. As splinter explosion is connected only with ship damage status in zones.cfg. Planes have their own splinter explosion effects. G...n I don't know what's a splinter :doh: . ahh now I remember about a splinter in my arse got stuck there during the aero attack off shore of africa.. :arrgh!:
I dunno.. I plan anyway to cut that flare effect down dramatically, but first I have to check on that effect dramatically.. :doh: maybe it's connected to the zones.cfg...
You can figure that for now as people in planes love techno parties and similar gatherings.. :rotfl:

I tried yesterday with some properties from the smoke exhaust mod from Rb, as you know it is affected by the wind.. the problem is that that smoke from exhaust is leaning in one direction and then is treated as a float.. gotta try more to be shure, but I feel it's impossibile.. you are a real intruder, you know ;)

The version of OLC'S mod, OLCE2 2.1 is still compatible with this mod, as it is stated by him on his thread, no ctd's you will encounter, maybe some strange colours..
I got confused by his numerous versions and his screenies..
And I must say, I didn't encounter strange color effect so far.. so everything stays the same..
I read the new lifeboats version is not comming out yet.. :cry: nor so soon..
I'm keeping fingers crossed for it to be perfect..

It seems OLC made a new version of his mod, and if I understood him correctly, it seems this two mods are not compatible anymore, meaning his new 2.1 version and this mod.

Your mod has had a minor incompatibility with OLCE2 all along... as I described both here and in the OLCU thread. Nothing in 2.1 has changed that.

This is an update about compability issues, update plans and some minor things..

Compability and answers to some requests and questions:
GWX 2.1 - So far, no reports of ctd's, bugs, so I feel it's 100% compatible. :roll:
waterstream mod - when it comes out for GWX 2.1, this mod is 100% compatible
OLCE2(together with complete OLC's ubermod) x.x(last 2.1)- fully compatible, but some minor effects may look strange when you(and you must do it this way) enable this mod after Olc's, although, honestly, I didn't see anything so far and I must tell you(knock knock knock) I'm not blind or 4eyes :D
Torpedo trail - it is connected to some other files, I think torpedo.dat, that file is not in this mod, so you can choose whatever mod corrects those trails
Wind affection - it seems to me that wind is a cosmetic feature in sh3 more and more, but because I also, as dear a6intruder, feel that some "wind" effect must be, I plan an update with less thick smokes, maybe more "wind" affected.. like I explained.. Those xyz I mentioned, z is in the direction of the ship, y up, x to the left.. And it's a wind speed.. :cry:
S-BOOT mod - compatible, please check pics and sights for version v204D update
ALL MODS WITH TEX FOLDERS - when you enable the main folder of this mod like I explained in the readme that comes with the mod, you might get warning because of this tex folder are enabled by some other mod. Don't worry, enable this with JSGME. It won't erase anything.
Lifeboats mod - I'm impatient for the new version that mod, but I got word that this mod will still be compatible to life boats mod when it gets out. If not, you can be shure I will release an update pronto.
Little superman running overboard before ship sinks - Just got that idea the other day, I will try it. Do you think it's ok?
Funnel smokes for ships regarding to their class- maybe
Compared this smokes and effects with original - I know it drags.. But, this one are better? :rotfl:
Ship wake - I think it is connected to some other files, but if I'm wrong, this ship wakes are pretty much the same in every mod I encountered..
Too loud ship whistles - I agree with catfight on this one and I will try to adjust the sounds accordingly.
Starshell guns - I don't think you know how good those guns are.. please try it. Do you remmeber a scene from das boot in Gibraltar? No, no "not yet". Before that.
All mods not using the files in this mod - I'm using shleuse aa ships with bugfix, carrotio undersea, uniforms, GWX 2.1 mission orders(I must say when I read gwx manual I was scared I would miss some of the action, nto anymore, great mod!).. So you get a picture, every one not touching this files.
ENHANCED DAMAGE EFFECTS - NO NO NO NOT COMPATIBLE. The "same" thing, different, very different.

Flags and pennants - Does anyone know something about this mod?

I hope I didn't forgot anything..

He's referring to Mikhayl's S-Boot mod, 999-Jay-999. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing an incredibly fun and fast-paced experience. It's in a sticky posted near the top of the SH3 Mods Workshop here.

asanovic7, the longer ship wakes were released as a mod some time ago but it was made for GWX 1.03. The longer wakes are done by editing the 'Ship Wake' sections in the .val files of the vessels.

Unfortunately, it would require editing the appropriate file of each and every ship type to have longer wakes and making sure each ship's wake looked correct in the game. Noone has had the will to take up the challenge of such a task.

Since it seems every other mod alters these files, it would require constant updating as well as several differing versions to ensure compatibility with the various popular add-on mods for GWX.

Quite a lot of work when you consider that GWX has hundreds of ships, boats, and submarines. :-?

It would be great if someone could create a patcher that would only write the proper Ship Wake values to the .val files, regardless of what mods are installed. That's what was originally done with the "Real Weather Fix 2" so it was compatible with any mod. Perhaps Stiebler could provide a way to create a similar patcher for you to add the longer wake values into GWX 2.1.

Hi Asanovic, regarding compatibility with the s-boot mod, I think the only problem is with the zones.cfg file. For the mod I used a "flavored to taste" version of longer repair times, so the "flooding times" for the uboot compartments are increased a lot. If you use the RB's effects and that you take damage, the flooding will be too fast compared to the repair times. The quick solution would be to copy the "uboat parts" section of zones.cfg from the s-boot mod to replace the one in your RB's effects (that's the same as what I did for the GWX effects compatibility option).I have experienced that when I tried to install RB/Asanovic7 mod over the Sboot1.0 without changing anything...I tried to fix that by using the Sboot zones.cfg after the installation of the SH4-sh3 mod...it worked for me:hmm:

Thanks for the valuable information. I didn't think of fixing the wakes myself, better said, don't know how to do it :rotfl: , since I'm still a newbie at this, :oops: I was just answering to one guy who asked about it. That would be great if stiebler would do it, since he has a valuable start with his rwf2. Although, just meddling with some things require alot of time, so for the rest of us, vultures, it requires patience. :roll:

Yep it works but RB's/Asanovic zones.cfg file is included for a purpose, if you don't use it you lose a lot of features depending on it.
Hey, thanks for dropping in and explaining some stuff. And, I must say I finally downloaded your s-boot after a fight "over 5 days" with filefront. :rotfl: I can't wait to play it.

Actually, I must say no, you will not loose many of the features, since I made only one difference to zones.cfg, so everybody can easily do what linerkiller did.
I must say since alot of files functioning in sh3 is still a mistery to me(learning by tries and reading), other than particles.dat and materials.dat(hopefully), the zones.cfg I didn't yet quite grasped.
For instance, I meddled with zones.cfg, to add some effects and chop up the flare. Result was, and I don't know how and when :rotfl: planes fired flares. Yep, you will not see anymore planes firing flares. Because I now know what "activates" it. Anyways, I have to know more before I grasp the right appliance of the zones.cfg.

Anyways, with s-boot mod, make a mission with an oil tanker full of oil, fire all weapons at it. If it explodes like in the picture on page 1 of this mod, then you have all. If not, in the end of the file of zones.cfg, there is this:

That means erase that ; before fuel explosion, without meddling much.
That is the only thing I changed in my zones.cfg, although I have one new, but not yet for show. Now, I didn't test before without that ; erased, so if this i swrong and it doesn't or didn't change anything, don't judge me hard. I'm a guy just like you who can't read everything. Like I said in the readme

I'm learning, but sometimes it's hard, Ringo, really hard.. :know: So far, I'm really happy this effects mod by racerboy(that explosions are so fine and the sound of all those little pieces falling into water) are available to everyone and to me(who are playing on GWX 2.1), because the first time I saw little supermans flying or swimming in the water, I just fell in love. That is what's missing to sh3, a feeling you don't shoot metal cans..

Now, how would you explain to me that ship doesn't have funnel smokes? :rotfl: Because, to tell you the truth I don't know how to explain that, other by saying that ship is actually a submarine on periscope depth.

Yes i am sure that this ship did not turn. This picture was taken out of "Guntraining"-Mission and it is the C2 right in front of you.
That your "Artilleriefährpram" (yes a heavy word in German) has smoke, even ugly one, and my does not is mysterius. I have not an reply on that. The same ship in LSH3 has smoke as you see below:

Not so to the bow, maybe alittle, but if I put it more to the bow, it would IMO look silly fire smokes lean less than funnel smokes, but I said I will check it out and I will. Maybe I will check the funnels for warships and merchants separate. And now about other things..
Ok, after some contemplation with angels and devils, I came to a conclusion that is actually another question..

This is racerboys mod for GWX 2.1 only. In GWX 2.1 I think all ships got smokes, BUT I will check the bloody(I'm not mad I just wanted to use it as an ozzie..:doh: ) C2 but if I find it has smokes, I will be very dissapointed, Dewey like dissapointed..
Let me share my thoughts. I had a clean install of GWX on Sh3 and after I installed with jsgme and deinstalled about a million times one mod or the other, including for my testing, I think I will have to do a reinstall of sh3, GWX and everything else in certain point of time in the future. Maybe very soon. Now, those issues you are having may be happening because you are doing the same thing I mentioned above. In other words, planes shooting flares happened to me and you because of zones.cfg, but ship without smokes ain't, couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't, won't and can't be happening to me and you on the same install.
Thanks for the dl path of dkrueger's mod. I will dl it when I will have the means and check it out, also.
Now I go to rest and to check the funnels.. :rotfl:

Maybe very soon. Now, those issues you are having may be happening because you are doing the same thing I mentioned above. In other words, planes shooting flares happened to me and you because of zones.cfg, but ship without smokes ain't, couldn't, shouldn't, wouldn't, won't and can't be happening to me and you on the same install.
Thanks for the dl path of dkrueger's mod. I will dl it when I will have the means and check it out, also.
Now I go to rest and to check the funnels.. :rotfl:

The reason why showing pics from LSH3 is quite easy: On LSH3 i have installed the DKrueger-Version and on GWX 2.1 yours. And to show you what i am talking about, i have to take some pics from LSH3.
I could not really follow you in fact of the C2. This ship has smoke as shown on pictures above but the matter was the direction of smoke. Try the Dkrueger-Version and you will get the same result like me.
Btw. the "ugly" ment the colour of smoke not the smoke itself.:oops:
You are right with the missing smoke. I will have an eye on it and report wenn i see it again. Up to now it happends only on the Artilleriefährpram. The other pictures, showing ships without smoke are from LSH3!! If i use the particles.dat, delivered with LSH3 everything is ok! But ugly and without the effects i love.

I do not know what the cam-files do but the Eqp-files adds an "flares-gun" to the ships as you see below:

OK, here is an reply:

1. C2 WITHOUT SMOKE, artillerie without smoke - your installation of this mod, a6intruder is "lost in the wild", funnel means chimney, it stops when the ship stops. :damn: Every living ship in the gwx 2.1 has funnel smokes!!! Thats FINAL! :rotfl:

2. mengle, cam files from the sea folder,, are there because they add armament or additional weapon slots for ships. to the ships. The sounds and the starshell added to the ships are treated as a new weapon and so when you hear a horn from the ship your crew will say you are atacked.. Actually, if you add sound to the (described in the readmes "I WANT A SOUND ON A SHIP" and "I WANT A STARSHELL ON A SHIP") warship you will be atacked. :D With this new version 2.04D on th eother hand I altered sim files for some warships(or 90%) in sea folder to add them a different funnel smoke. Different from merchants..

3. STARSHELL, a6intruder you didn't try... How to use it is described in "I want a starshell gun" readme supplied with the mod!!!

3. a6intruderthe pic with those flares. As I explained lots of times. Effects in zones.cfg activate effects in particle.dat. One of them is splinter explosion, it activates the distress flare like you see on the pic. Because your ship had many splinter explosions, hence many flare, BUT only one will remain after a while. When I find out more about zones.cfg, I will hopefully eliminate those many flares.. THAT IS NOT STARSHELL GUN!!! :rotfl:

4. PLEASE a6intruder, if you find real bugs, report it. Please, don't bug me more with your installation issues or your pics from other big mods. This is a mod for GWX 2.1. It is as it is. I will not add more wind effect to the smokes because the wind affected smokes you are showing are silly to me. The WIND is not blowing all the time to 90 degrees to the port.
It's hard, but I am a bit annoyed, I apologize, BUT I feel I have to say this.

"Little if any" feature are different funnel smokes for warships and merchants. I added that different funnel smoke to the warships from GWX2.1, some I left out.
NOTE: if you feel some warship doesn't "deserve" "little if any" feature, delete its folder from the 2.04d in sea folder..

If you want to add some warships to GWX 2.1 and you play it with this v204D and you like my "little if any" feature you can enable that funnel smokes for that ship this way:
1. INSTALL S3D 0.82
2. FIRST OPEN LET'S ATUG.sim from the sea folder in this mod.
3. follow this pics, you will figure it out

For SBOOT mod:
There are some issues with SBOOT mod and the GWX 2.1. Not big but you may find it out of luck. But, you can try if this Racerboys mod v204c or v204c works with GWX 2.0. and then SBOOT won't have issues with gwx . Or you can find data/terrain folder in SBOOT mod and delete locations.cfg, that made SBOOT compatible to GWX 2.1 in my case:
The only thing you should do to make this racerboys mod for gwx 2.1 and s-boot compatible, is to open sboot's zones.cfg(located in data folder of his main folder), scroll to the bottom of that file where you will see this:

I showed this picture just for clearance what the Eqp-file does. As asked from mengle. Nothing else, btw it is the Rodney on the picture, seems to be another weeknees in history and in behaviour/politenes

Hey!
Yes and no.
If you want to have the starshell and sounds on ships you have to install it, read the "I want the starshell on a ship" and read "I want sounds on a ship" included with the main 2.04c version. On those readmes everything is explained.
Sea folder is packed with folders named by ships. Each ship has its own cam file and eqp file.
If you enable the sea folder(with jsgme or manually, if manuylly please make a backup), if you want sounds and starshell, you will have to install it like explained in readmes, meaning installing sounds or starshell guns. Dido allready has (check dido folder in sea folder) installed sounds and starshell, v&w has sounds, and coastal merchant, I added it for show! So, if you install sea folder and you don't install sounds or starshell, nothing will happen, except for that ships. So that would mean yes.. :doh: Hope this explains everything..
But if you don't add the sea folder, the mod will function, it will just have some functions unused, and I wonder if that works 100% myself. But sh3 is a forgiving game, so no problems should occur.
Hope this explains everything.

And check the v2.04D release, please, as it adds different funnel smokes for merchants and warships. It has also sea folder, and the same rules apply here.. I sent an explanation how to add my funnels to any warship other than GWX 2.1(if you want to add a ship) also.. First page of this thread, read it all for further explanations..

First, live_ai_ships_sounds is not a mod, it is the folder where are the sounds if you want to enable for some ship like it is explained in the "I want a sound on the ship" readme in the mod.
Other three are like this:
1. Racerboy_SH4_Effects_GWX_21 is the mod or the main folder
2. Rb_SH4_Effects_Life_boat is for compability of this mod with lifeboats mod
3. RB_SH4_GWX_21_204D is the new version update
If you want all, install in this order:
1, 3, 2..
and test it on single missions first, please.. :doh:

NO NO NO lifeboat mod is a differnet mod from rubini. The difference between racerboys mod and lifeboat mod is in one file or they CONFLICT in one file.. That folder when you enable it in the order I mentioned and ofcourse AFTER you enabled lifeboat mod, erases that difference, so the two mods are playable together..

2. Now, since I don't want to be mad on anyone and God forbid, someone on me(although there are plenty of them :cry: ) I want to say this.

I have entered in a fight with a6intruder two days ago as I was very nervous and annoyed. When I think about that two days after, maybe I overreacted and maybe I shouldn't have been so p..d off. Well, I have a temper like a girl on pms, I get easily p..d off if I have some f..d up important "real life" obligations.
Also, this is a good as any event to show nothing is white or black, and that even when you think something is black, shades of grey emerge. I know I sound like I'm full of cr.p, but that's how I feel about a6intruder for couple of reasons. First, indirectly or directly he led me to the first big bug of this mod. That artilleriesomething on my installation dissappears, on his it has no funnel smoke. I thought because he was messing with several installs that he might made a mistake there but that was my mistake to assume that. That is really a smashing job he did there. I plan to ask dkrueger as his textures are allready here in this mod, to let me include his wonderful work in this release. If he says no, I will tell everybody how to mix them to get a great combo.
So, all in all a6intruder in his way showed me some things that made me reconsider my actions..

Ok, on page 1 I explained two files for download.
Both are jsgme ready.. The first is the v204c, it is standalone version and I have put a message number on page 1 to see pics from that release.

The second is v204d, that is the new version, but not a standalone. I made it because lots of people(wow am I c..y :rotfl: ) downloaded v204c so I made for v204d a little jsgme upgrade for v204c. If you didn't download it before, for both versions you have to download them both, enable v204c and then v204d.

In the post "quicky fix" I have put a file download destination for 50 people who downloaded v204d which had flaws. So that particles.dat corrects v204d but it should only be downloaded for people who downloaded v204d(those 50), if you are new download v204d from the first page, I upgraded it, so it has not flaws.. :rotfl: :rotfl: This is so confusing for me also. But in my mind now is boose(is that the right spelling) I corrected some flaws in v204d and put that download destination..
Now, for being an idiot as I am I put two particles.dat :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: in that quickyfix, not by my intention, it was divine.. Ok those particles.dat are the same. Put them in the v204d IF YOU DOWNLOADED IT YESTERDAY(hint: compare the files date it should be the same if you don't need it)..

I mean, with strong wind, the smoke goes 1 kilometer up, and 1 kilometer to the direction of the wind, so it getz diagonal. Can you understand the picture?

The last days many mods attempts help us enjoy SH3, and with several updates.

The problem is, the combatibility between them, and, the special effort to substitue one with/for an other and again, and after again.

(For these reason I stopt the update of OLCE in the version 1.7. Indeed, the actual 2.2 version is an other mod, not only a version. With wich one your mod is compatible? Every time Onelifecrisis change cap, you follow him?)

Personally, I did a big effort to modify my SH3 with GWX 2.0 compatible mods and I can't do all the marathon again. :-?

So, I try your mod, but without every cosmetic addition like sh3.sdl, sounds, starshell etc. I will be really very happy if the visual change is without mistakes and bugs.

More specifically, I would like, if is possible, avoid the fireworks during explosions (you now, the red/rose flying fire balls) and people who fly few centimeters above the surface. Better see them below the surface than flying few centimeters above. For the same reason, I use the version without bodys in the water of Rubini's Lifeboats.

I hat CTD with your mod inside port in 1944 during air raid: it was enormous. Bombs explosions from the havy bombers, flakguns firing from everywere (GWX harbor traffic) my own flakguns firing, bombers in fire drop in the sea, explosions from hited ships and... CTD. With nvidia 8800 GTX and 2GB DDR800 and core2duo 6850. Before CTD just 1 or 2 fps. Really no the same thing like academy training...

I appreciate all your effort for sharing and stay polite and I wish you the best.

For me the best thing can happen: somebody finish the Racerboy's work with flags and pennants .... at least one IX ship ... anyone... I know, dreams...

Actually, I din't even see olc's new version.. the v204d is compatible up to olc's ubermod 2.1, I guess, until I check 2.2 out, but I think it will still be compatible. v204d is compatible the same way also but some things may look strange.
NEW! I just saw olc's 2.2, he split the mod into separate parts. So, basically it's 2.1, if I understood correctly. But I don't know what is "optional extra"..

So, oil explosions hit the computer hard. Well, your specifications exceed mine.:rotfl: That means I am doing a mod for a computer not mine. :doh: I am pleased air raid itself(did you hear the sound?) didn't ctd you. That means it works.. :doh: I will try to downgrade the number of particles, rb was apparently very wild for those particles..
Ok, heres a quick fix for avoiding those explosions, just erase mine zones.cfg(located in data folder) and use original gwx 2.1.
Can you please try it then? With that air raid, please. That happens when you come back to port, right?

As far for the supermans flying above the water about few centimeters. Didn't nottice it so far. Was it on rough sea? My knowledge about that(from lifeboats readme) is that sh3 engine doesn't simulate well rough sea conditions for debris.
If on calm sea, honestly didn't see it.

I just checked the main files. What can I say, I like dead bodies swimming in the water, it's like a candy and for "immersion" for the u-boot captain(I had to use it :rotfl: ). But as I am playing on 100% with only event split view option(olc's way) I don't get to see that often.. And they vanish for about 10 seconds or so..
You must appreciate the amount of work racerboy and people mentioned by him in the readme that was done to make those supermans fly the way they fly now, to erase that would be like to erase this mod.

And every day new mod with new feature.. So I hope I will throw in some tutorials on how I did it with s3d to make it compatible.. It will make life easier for some guys. And I think before gwx gets out for sh4(stick with one team, my dad always says, but not with the same woman) that sh3 is really the best subsim?

Thanks for a handsome reply, first of all, great. Now some thingies.

First, live_ai_ship_sounds is not a part of the mod to enable with jsgme, it is a folder where sounds for ships if you enable them, as described in the readmes, are put.

Second, life_boat folder is for compability with lifeboats mod. As I see, you don't have it installed, so you don't need it.

I need, please, feedback:

1. Thoughts on live ai ship sounds and starshell(a6intruder loves it, anybody else, mangle?)
2. Too destructive for machines as ntg explained. It is not my work, gwx adds lots of things, and rb's mod adds a lot of things, and when you put that together computer gets alot ctd. But, I plan to cut those textures, some are too big, any volunteers for trying? I allready did, but explosions look somewhat cartoonish, I am afraid, ok, a light version and suicide version will be..
3. Difference with smokes from fires from v204c to v204d? Anyone.. Please..

Finally, I tried, like you ask me, without your zones.cfg and it is better. The problem occur when a bomber (or two...) are hited and drop...CTD with the usual Microsoft's announcement: sorry but....SH3 must close...The file indicated up and right was sh3sim.act, i dont now if that is useful... Before CTD, 17-19 fps.

In the bottom line, (heavy) bombers drops down very very rarely with GWX, and with ";" in place, before "FuelExplosion=#oil_explosion" in the end of zones.cfg the problem of CTD is minimum, IMHO...

Yesterday, I made cuts to materials.dat to lower the size of textures and stuff like that. It is now half the size. I "stole" some of the textures from GWX 2.1 because they used smaller tgas. Privateer said they hacked it up to be playable on older machines.. Explosions and fires now don't look so "clear" but I think it's a fair amount of "price" to pay to be playable in every comp. in every situation like the one in brest. I don't like fps losses. I am satisfied, I just need to cut some more thingies and it will be playable ok.
I even tested it.

I tried to start patrol in 8. month of the year of our Lord 1944.
2 flotilla(if I am not mistaken) in Brest.

I left the dock and after 2 seconds, aeroplanes started to come.
I was playing with this mods:
gwx 2.1(ofcourse :smug: )
aotd mad max aa ships shleuse bugfix for gwx 2.1
torpedo final damage v2.0
olc ubermod 2.11
this mod v204c
my new version test(which is upgraded v204d)
(so you see I used some great eaters of fps besides this mod)

As I said I got hd2600pro 256 mb.. 2.66 ghz with 1.5 gb ram
I have experienced 2 or 3 times 1-2 fps, when a ship near me exploded and when all those bombs hit the surface. other fps was 10-18
On second or third vawe two bombers were shot down, fell to the sea, I was a bit dissapointed that large bomber(british bomber, halifax, maybe it is that) didn't left a burning oil smoke(so far I saw that only with swordfishes :rotfl: ).
And then it ended.. To my satisfaction.. :doh:

I didn't experience your ctd..
I was satisfied because witth the older settings I would probably experience a ctd of my own. I mean, that port has about 200 aa guns.. :rotfl:
With gwx 2.1 now it looks like a movie.. Again, great, great great job...

So it is my challenge now to make it look good and fast.. on gwx 2.1 movie..

My new war funnels use same id's as original funnels in your version without fix.. That could be reason why your funnelly works like it works..

Asanovic7, have you ever, or do you know if anyone has ever, made a tutorial/overview on editing or creating particle effects in SH?

As far as I know,
no one has really discussed the particle generators much.

Most of the reason being that it use to be all hex work.
And most people see hex work as VooDoo!

With S3D, the particles work should be fairly simple.
Change a few settings and observe what happens.
Then change a few more and observe again.
Pretty soon you got it all down.

Um Asanovic, just a quick question from a purely mod user....
When enabling Racerboy's SH4 effects for GWX 2.1 MOD, do you automatically get the ship's PA announcement, ship's horn/whistle for civilian and military ships?

Do you also automatically get the starshells on the ships as well?

Any advice welcome.

P.S I did read the readme but I'm not a modder so it was mostly all over my head..soz.

NGT, sorry about "ntg" :doh: , yesterday I experienced your sh3sim-act bug and I think I know what's causing it..
In my eagerness to try brest and as I am starting always the game with sh3commander, I started one patrol, was fine(no ctd), then immeadiately started second when I exited the patrol by docking to brest. I experienced everything like you, even the ctd.
So, this is the answer to your bug question. I think it says in sh3commander manual that you need to exit the game after patrol to start another.. If I am not wrong..

With v204d you also have sea folder, but that is not deletable as it adds different funnels to warships, and you don't have to do anything with it, just don't delete it..

Easy, I did that to test if I can do it. I was planning to give only to you that mod anyway, so I cannot say anything else for now. You tell me..
I am not shure if somebody else isn't allready doing it and if I could or should deliver that mod. And the compability issue(with reflection, without for olc). Then those damn pennants, rb linked them with snorkel but that is such a bugger for me I don't like them. It looks cool but noo.. When snorkel shows they don't appear and I don't know if I can add another extensible item to the turm, Gandalf should know better. Racerboy mentioned also about making the flags not wired to the turm so that they can be also extensible, but that goes to pennants section.
Next, I placed the flags next to each other because that flag pole for 9c is too short. I tried to extend it(3dsmax) but me and my buddy(who doesnt love this s..t :damn: ) got stuck with importing that 3d model in the game. Since fubar is the right word that describes my knowledge about models I have to read more in s3d forum or ask skwas himself.
And the last thing. Flags are 3d models that have animation imported. If I figured that correctly, those animations imported in the dat file are in fact frames from 1 to let's say 30. So if I would make the flag bigger, shorter or anything(counting on I could import it :rotfl: , I didn't try) then I would probably mess up those animations.
HUH so you see.. YOU MIGHT BE OVERREACTING! :D
For the new version of this mod, I am working on it, but I am not satisfied with the smoke texture and that dkruger is not answering on pm. So I am working my own.
I hope I can do it properly, but I don't know if I don't try.
Only today I managed to download lifeboats mod and it sound file I think differs from the one I enabled for compatibility so I don't think they are compatible...

Ok (super)man, one by one:
1. For my taste the explosion above looks wonderful.
2. The smoke, indeed, should be darker with more volume.
3. Why you feel oblige to do pennants? Flags are more than enough. And people wont flags. Go to RB thread for flags and pennants and look how many people wait for that.
The key-word is personalisation: flags are like skins for U-boot. You can see how many visitors to skins threads, because they can personalise the U-boot. And flags go in the same way. (Same for uniforms —Venatore is Great— but less popular than skins.)
4. As far as concern the sound for lifeboats I can't say something, I took out the folder anyway, I don't wont it. Remember, I am not the target public, I stay definitely in OLCE 1.7 (with tweaked underwater visibility, thanks S3D) with the original GWX sh3.sdl.

first of all id like to say thanks for all your great work so far. this mod is no doubt the best FX mod there is, in terms of eye candy. keep it up!
just a coupla thoughts tho. the texture of the smoke is great, much better than normal. however, i agree with some of the posts above that the colour does need to be darker, especially at night (im using olce2 2.3 at the moment). also, i'd be wary of downgrading the quality of the FX: the whole point of this mod is that it is high quality. sure, it hurts fps, but on my new-ish mid-range computer even the most catastrophic explosion only causes a drop to around 20 fps, where it still looks great! it would be nice for your fans with older computers to use it, so maybe you could keep what youve done so far intact and do another version which is more lo-res for older computers? like i said, aside from the colour of the smoke i like it as it is!
a final thing. like you suggested in the readme, i tried using the original gwx zones.cfg instead of yours. to be honest, i dont think this combination worked that well - i prefer your zones.cfg. it certainly didnt seem to me that it caused any unrealistic, extra damage in comparison. also, ive istalled this mod over the latest version of lifeboats&debris and everything seems to work ok.
if we meet, i'll buy you a beer. if racerboy ever comes back i'll get him one too :up:

As a rule of thumb I tend to play it safe and always enable/disable any mods while in port and after I have rolled back SH3 Commander. :know:

With regards to this mod SH4 Effects I haven't even tried it yet but I'm sure users of it here will come back to you on that.

Just to tell you the truth, ROLLBACK SH3COMMANDER EACH AND EVERY TIME BEFORE YOU WANT TO ENABLE SOME MOD. And enable mods in port, the safest way, it seems. :up:

The screenies are pretty much the same as they were, but there are big differences, check it yourself!

In the Thread starter, first page of "SH3 Mods Workshop", you have "....MOD V2.04e" instead of "2.04f1" Perhaps is interesting to change that.

Second, we don't play so good and I think the zermans are going to have a ball. Third, Italians really missed with toni, toni messes up their game, even gilardino is better than toni. But that is good for Italians, they must get a hit in the head, then they play well, although donadoni really s..s.
Forth, f1 definately replaces e and sixth, there is a difference between flagis optio and flagis. In flagis optio I have put the files for flags for 7c4 and 7c8 turms(I think, can't remember now :rotfl: ) but I didn't have time for testing them, I was hoping someone would test it, but so far luca toni appeared.

hey asanovic. ive tried your last coupla versions of the mod, and it is looking better than ever. the smoke looks great. i also wanna thank you for making the various compatibility patches, they are a massively big help when u have a lot of mods like i do.
as a proud englishman i should be mad at you....but u clearly outperformed us over the 2 games and deserve to be there. if donadoni sucks, McClaren is an absolute muppet! good luck in the tournament (my brothers rooting for croatia by the way, seeing as england arent there for us to support!) :up:

Some more adjustments are on the way, I hope, some sounds that are missing, I am doing it in cooperation with poul(try his sound mod) and to correct one smaller or bigger bug, but that is not notticable, I guess. Sometimes ship fires the flare, sinks and drags the flare with himself, and unfortunately the flare is visible beneath the water.. :rotfl: But it happens in 0.5% of the cases, so you can play with this version if you like because currently not much time for jogging.

To tell you the truth, I was trying to add the sound of the snorkel and failed miserably.. That somewhat depressed me in the terms of modding.. :rotfl: And got me dedicated to play it..

I am planning to add a couple of effects based on ideas by rubini from his ede(ofcourse, if I can), some custom made effects(like all secondary explosions are pretty much the same..), some missing sounds(bullets hitting the water and such, but snorkel :cry: :cry:) , fix some things..
Any ideas?

Glad to see someone has been working on my FX mod. I do not care at all that someone picked it up and ran with it, looks good :rock:
I've been busy with work and many personal things in my life. I had to step away for some time and do the things that I needed to do. Modding ate up HUGE amounts of time.
That's not to say I quit modding - quite the contrary. I modded for myself while I've been away. There were many aspects of the files that I didn't understand and I had to pick them apart and learn them. I didn't want outsiders claiming they helped me thus I had to do it myself. After finally finding a good 32-bit disassembler to view the binaries of SH3 I have figured out some of the mysteries I was facing. I still have much to learn though!
I'll bounce in from time to time to see how things are coming along. I have my own version of my FX mod for GWX that I've been playing with and transforming into the effects that I've always wanted. It's progressing quite well.
I see many of the same faces here, some I wish were gone but one can't have everything they want :up:

EDIT: one overlife is tied to the PG or FPG life, the others are tied to each actual particle's life.

Glad to see someone has been working on my FX mod. I do not care at all that someone picked it up and ran with it, looks good :rock:
I've been busy with work and many personal things in my life. I had to step away for some time and do the things that I needed to do. Modding ate up HUGE amounts of time.
That's not to say I quit modding - quite the contrary. I modded for myself while I've been away. There were many aspects of the files that I didn't understand and I had to pick them apart and learn them. I didn't want outsiders claiming they helped me thus I had to do it myself. After finally finding a good 32-bit disassembler to view the binaries of SH3 I have figured out some of the mysteries I was facing. I still have much to learn though!
I'll bounce in from time to time to see how things are coming along. I have my own version of my FX mod for GWX that I've been playing with and transforming into the effects that I've always wanted. It's progressing quite well.
I see many of the same faces here, some I wish were gone but one can't have everything they want :up:

Ok, racerboy told me I can still use this version of the mod and work on it, if I understood it correctly. And maybe I will.
I feel this version is ok(204f1) and will not get you serious problems with fps(lite version people, lite) or anything, since there are no bug reports, other than bodies float like s..t which is as it is, or maybe that is because people don't use this mod, whatever.
Although I am amazed with that fact, since racerboy added the little supermen which relieved me of thinking that I am sinking cans. Together with life boat.. :D But it's a matter of taste and I.. got stuck into nonsense.

Since racerboy said he will release a new version of the mod, I have put this matter on hold. But.. Maybe if that takes time I will do the updates as I said I will do.
Anyways, I am pretty much intrigued by the "revamping the particle dat" stated by racerboy, so maybe I will wait for that.

That's what I wanted to say :doh:

The GWX team has just barely started working on the SH4 version. Maybe in a year or so it will be ready.

This mod imports some SH4 effects into SH3.

Dropped only one message in the subsim this summer on general forums, regarding world and stuff like that. I got a reply that I have to get drunk and laid. Well, the man has a point. Very nice to see no one gives a flying f..k about anything happening anywhere if it isn't their country or family. Which is kind of nice, because to tell you the truth, optimistic visions of future like star trek really suck because there is no sex and nobody dies. Although it's nice to watch 90% of Earths history, science whatever is somehow related to Texas, watching movie trekkers really is much more fun than the actual show. Spiner femme takes the cake, woman holding a child pointing to a spot, virtual spot behind a hill she can't see but it is there where brent spiner lives, and she does so with a glare in the eyes every morning. :rotfl:
Do they have to be yellow, well, no, they don't have to. Grab the s3d, open particle.dat and paint it blue. Only hard thing is to find the right event, but it's not that hard. 2 or 3 hours.
Did racerboy release new effects, what's going on? I would appreaciate the update. If not, thanks anyway for reading.

I am proud this mod was downloaded by 937 men according to filefront(IMO very nice number concerning it is for another big mod, it is a mod of another mod and "fps eater" with people not floating the way they should float, :88) and regarding the fact many people fire torpedoes and don't see jack s..t of effects because they play this game the way it shoud be played, all the same very nice work by racerboy and others mentioned in the readme) godarn them to hell and their policy of downloads.
Just a reminder bts forums is a nice place where you can take the mod better if something didn't change there.
Regarding anything about the continuation of this mod. I don't know the status of racerboy's mod, don't know anything as a matter of fact. If you have idea, know how to mod, make a new effect(did SNORKEL GET A SOUND? anyone?), get drunk and laid, I would appreciate you say something here or wherever or go help whoever needs help. Whatever.. :rotfl:

download gwx 3.0 currently, darnit, so I really don't know whether this mod is compatible to gwx 3.0 anymore. But I saw most changes are of graphical nature specific to ships and campaigns. So, I think it is still.. I made this mod compatible to olce 2(some small changes in materials and particles) allready. But, if there are any new sounds or effects then there is a problem..

I would appreaciate members of gwx team would send out an signal is it compatible still or not..

I reduced particals for the siaj of Subs to reduce FPS impact.
Your adding generators that increase the impact so it's a non-issue.

No changes to the sounds were done.
No changes to the particals nor materials dats.

To make a new version based on changes to the Sub val files
would be a total waste of time for no viable reason.

I reduce something by 20% and you add 300% more impact?
Don't waste the time.

Are you saying that it is okay to use with GWX 3.0 as well because all you did to the val files is reduce particals from 2.0 to 3.0 and this would not effect gameplay at all? Just FPS?

Lanzfeld, in the end you should test it. There is no guarantee that a mod wil work in case all files in that mod have not been changed from GWX 2.1 -> GWX 3.0. With the Sh4 effects I see frequently burners. The mod has not been changed but the water has, triggering the damagemodel earlier.

You understand how to add multiple effects and create new ones?
Effecti=xxxx (i is the next incremental number)

Effect1=small_fire, 50
Effect2=big_fire,75
Effect3=splinter_explosion,100

this would give a small fire at 50% of the object's hitpoints, then a big fire at 75% of the object's hitpoints (CUMULATIVE - this means the big fire could be placed on TOP of the small fire - watch out for this), and finally a grand explosion at 100% of the object's hitpoints.

I use this to make oil slicks and such. At 25% damage I have compartments start oozing out fluids, oil, coolant, etc. depending on what the compartment is. Then depending on the compartment, it's gets a different type of explosion (or no explosion) once all 100% of hitpoints are used.

Get the newest SH4 effects for SH3 (7.1) and the newest lifeboat mod (V4). Then install the SH4 FX mod first, second the lifeboats and finaly install the compability mod "RBS3withlifeboats" wich comes with the SFX mod. This should work.

Have a look in the manual of the SFX mod for further informations. :03:

You can enable LRT, then effects and then rbs6 lrt folder after it, or the other way, as long as rbslrt is last enabled.
But would be better to follow awful smutje(great nick?? :) ) directions how to..

uber gruber you are confusing me.. I rechecked it, there is rbs6-lrt folder in the mod?? I cannot download it now from filefront, but I checked the file on my mem stick that I uploaded to ff. And there it is?? Rbs6-LRT FOLDER??

Racerboy, I know how zones.cfg works. But wasn't certain 100%, so thanks for the info.. :salute: Didn't have time to better check it. But I headed for now with taking into action(??)some other your advices on particle generators. My work on zones.cfg for now is I added distress flare to be shot when the front of the ship gets blasted away which is not a happy solution, but for now is better than one million of them when splinter explosions occur. Would be great if the makers of the life boat(rubini privateer) would add it to their mod, so that lifeboats shoot flare when stranded on the sea or something like that?

1 - GWX modified the zones.cfg file to add a/some new effects that aren't in the SH4 effects for SH3 mod. If you try to use this with GWX you will surely crash the game at some point when it's looking for an effect it can't find. Asanovic7 can inform you better on this since he's been porting my original over to GWX.

2 - There is no comparison (currently) to the SH4 effects for SH3 mod (but I am a bit biased :03: ). If you want the best visuals when it comes to effects then SH4 effects for SH3 is for you. Once again, Asanovic7 is the better one to ask until I release RFX.

Hi ASANOVIC,

first of all thanks for the efforts on this mod!

MY only doubt, maybe a stupid one, is the folowing:
when I activate the mod with JSGME, I receive this message:
"Zones.cfg" has already been altered by the "GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects" mod.
"particles.dat" has already been altered by the "GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects" mod.
"particles.dsd" has already been altered by the "GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects" mod.

and I am afraid that going on, might cause some problems or one of the two mods (yours and GWX enhanced damage effects) will not work!!!

1- What should I do?
2- What are the differences between your mod and GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects?

So your suggestion is to DISABLE GWX Enhanced Damage Effects and to go for SH4 effects for SH3?

I trust you blindly on the FX side, but what impact does it have on the DAMAGE?

Asanovic's SH4 for SH3 FX !!!!!
