lets say i wanted to edit the map to simply change the colors or add text?

what program would i need and where might i find the proper files?

You need a programm that can edit .tga files like Photoshop or GIMP, there are also others. The file is StrTactMap.tga in the data\Menu\Gui folder.

to add locations you need to edit this file
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Terrain\Locatio ns.cfg
with a text editor program.

I don't know how to edit the map colors for the sea floor. The location color is set by the game.
