View Full Version : Method to change different cannon's armor piercing value?
As the topic says, i've been lately trying to find the values that determines how much armor their AP and HE Shells can penetrate.
Because i tend to use the playable DD mod and the higher ups wants me quite often to sink a taskforce of 2 battleships, 6 DDs, 2 heavy cruiser and light cruiser.. And those 5"ers keep bouncing off the BB armor.
Yes, i know it's unrealistic for 5" AP shell to penetrate BB's belt armor roughly the thickness of 12"es, but i just want to get my missions done.

AP penetration, damage and Min/Max Efficiency values are all stored in shells.zon. Use S3D Editor to change the values to a number of your liking. To find out which shell is used from which gun, you'll have to check shells.dat and compare the ID number of the shell there with the ID number in the .zon file. That way you know which shells is which, in theory at least. I haven't checked this with gun shells, but this method applies to torpedoes, so I guess it'll work for your case (no pun intended).

For data/performance comparison, I would think that the AI warships would have all of these settings in their shells.zon files, too.

Don't get me wrong; all the data with regards to AP, Damage and Min/Max EF for ALL the gun shells in the game are stored in shells.zon. But there's no quick and easy way to find out which shell is which, bar the one I mentioned (and this is just an assumption I'm making, based on the correlation between the torpedoes' .zon and .dat file...or is it .sim? Damn, now I'm not sure, and I don't have the files available here!).
Great, thanks for the info. Finally i can take out those BBs slowly with these pop guns.. I cant use the torpedoes, otherwise i'd be going into their fire radius (12km) and get maybe 1 shotted..
Really, thanks.
...But there's no quick and easy way to find out which shell is which...
Shameless plug I know, thought it could help with shells:
[TEC] Shells.dat + Shells.zon Node Numbers in 1.5 v1.1 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=796274)
