WOW!!! I'm in October 1939 at midnight and I just saw Orion. I'm sure this is a small thing for you guys, but I was amazed that anyone took the time to code this touch of realism which most gamers would miss or ignore.

It's the attention to detail that makes GWX the best mod for Silent Hunter :yep:

Aye. Thats why I didn't mind the wait. GWX 2.0 and 2.1 was worth it!

Well, we've got the SH3 devs to thank for the placement of the stars in-game.:D

Okay, there are realistic star constallations to look at. But when you try to take it further, the realism ends very soon. I mean the projection of the world onto the SH3 map for example. Otherwise those stars could be even more useful and not just eyecandy ;)

Yes, we can't navigate in the same way ingame that they would have in real life, using a sextant, compass, etc. I'm okay with that as I would prefer my course plotting not to be a 30 minute exercise. As it is, its point and click. I like point and click with navigation, its a decision the devs made to sacrifice realism for gameplay ability. I like the choice.

That's very true, but where do you draw the line in 'realism' terms :hmm:

I'm glad the realism when your sunk still allows you a second chance to play again ;)

Yes, and I walked into my office today and it had been REPAINTED, in the colour I chose! Ah, GWX 2.1, you never fail to impress.

I do want to complain about one obvious bug though - after installing GWX 2.1 I noticed that my lawn was still the same length - it hadn't been mowed. Dreadful oversight. You'd think testing for compatibility with Fescue would have been a given. :nope:

Whine, whine, whine. Some people are never satisfied.

Which reminds me: SH3 Commander still hasn't gotten me the job I applied for. What's taking so long?

You only applied for a job? I thought it was supposed to provide the winning lottery numbers two-weeks in advnce. When is the bug in that feature going to be implemented so it works corectly and reports the numbers BEFORE they are drawn and not after?

Yeah, but now I'd rather argue about the speed in which BBW's grass is growing - it doesn't sound realistic to me. Mine is not growing that fast at all. I wonder what mods he is using?

Which reminds me: SH3 Commander still hasn't gotten me the job I applied for. What's taking so long?
Have you selected both "Simulate a realistic career length" and "Simulate realistic crew transfers"? You need both selected for this feature to work, as they ensure the position remains vacant for you.

You may also want to up the "Real time" and "When hunting" TC settings to speed the process. But be warned, this may have unintended side effects like bureaucratic bungling. In that case, ensure you up your "Character animations" and "Sound effects" to compensate.

Nb: once you have the job, I recommend turning off the "Simulate a realistic career length" option.

It does. Unfortunately, SH3 runs faster than RL, in the sense that 1 RL second equals 1.3247 SH3 seconds. As you can imagine, this difference adds up over time and results in the numbers being generated by SH3Cmdr well after the appropriate RL time. This is another typical SH3 bug for which SH3Cmdr gets blamed.

You need to *decrease* the "Real time" TC setting to 0.6555 to compensate. That will ensure that the numbers are generated just prior to drawing.

They also have the sound track of Stairway to Heaven in there. Play it backwards and it will turn out your belly button backwards at 33 RPM speed if you have an 8-track player.

Your NAVAL belly button will enjoy that. :D

I have, less than 5 feet away, a combined R2R, 8-track and cassette player. I still quite often throw on an 8-track (ahh that mid-song track click) or a reel.

I still miss that 8-Track player, and all those irreplacable 8-tracks. Thank God for P to P and MP3's :D

Talk about thread derailment! Why hasn't GWX2.1 addressed this? I thought it was meant to keep all subsim threads on track talking about GWX vs SH3 bugs.

Speaking about realism and details
In my 5th patrol in GWX 2.1, I've received a message from u-35, mentioning that is sinkign and they're abandoning it. (It was somewhere between 28-29th of november if I remember well)
Now check this out:

As much as the radio messages are there to add to the immersion......a lot of them are also strikingly accurate http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9026/wolfthumbsuprw5.gif (http://imageshack.us)

You might want to also thank IrishRed. That message was part of his original RadioLog mod more than two years ago.
