View Full Version : Possible to edit deck gun ammo?
Is it possible to edit the amount of deck gun ammo your boat can carry? I want to change it on a Type VII/B
Thanks for any info! :hmm:

It certainly is, but I only remember half of it.
That half is: go to Data/Cfg/Basic and look toward the bottom. Right after all the conning tower listings you'll find ammo. The one you want is
[AMMO_TYPE1];8.8cm SK C/35
Idx=1
Year=1939
Month=1
;AP=40
;HE=160
;SS=40
AP=0
HE=220
SS=0
Renown=0
The numbers after the semicolons ( ; ) are the original game loadouts. The numbers below are the historically accurate ones being used in GWX. You can change them to pretty much anything you like BUT...you also need to change the block loadouts (the groups of 20 that you see when you look at the Torpedo/Ammo screen), and I don't know how to do that one.
cool. thanks steve. much appreciated for the info and the bump :)

You must also change the ammo slots to represent match the number of shells you are going to add.
In a Type IX I carry 250HE......Go to:C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX2.1\data\Cfg
Open up the Basic CFG file and scroll down to:(example is for an IX to 250 rounds)
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS1] ;105mm
MaxAmmoPerSlot=110
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS2] ;88mm
MaxAmmoPerSlot=110
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS3] ;37mm
MaxAmmoPerSlot=400
[SUBMARINE_AMMOLIMITS4] ;20mm
;MaxAmmoPerSlot=1000
MaxAmmoPerSlot=2000
Change the 105mm from 110 to 250
Now scroll down to:
[AMMO_TYPE0];10.5cm SK C/32
Idx=0
Year=1939
Month=1
;AP=40
;HE=60
;SS=20
AP=0
HE=110
SS=0
Renown=0
Change both HE values to 250

Since it related to the deck gun what file do we need to edit if we want to edit the damage it made?

If playing realistically it's best used for everything, because that's all they carried. There was no true AP shell for any guns smaller than the 15cm, and the SAP, or common shells, were used on minesweepers and larger.
Starshells? Right out.

Good Hunting http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif thanks, will fiddle that in right away as i found it stupid that a big IX had equal/less shells then a small VII :doh:
and then they call em "better armed" :shifty:

In one of the Clay Blair volumes there is a reference to a Type IXB (IIRC) carryinf 355 rounds http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

A warning to people thinking of adding other shells to their loadout in GWX.
As you have to click to load your first round on the DG, if you add AP rounds (for example), there will be nothing to click on as the graphics have been removed.;)
By all means increase the amount of shells already carried but beware about the other types.

Pending positive proof of that, the reason the Type IX is listed as carrying less ammo is simple: The 10.5cm round (Type IX) was 3.45 feet long, and the 8.8cm round (Type VII) was only about 2.5 feet long. The bigger shells take up more space, so they carried less of them.
Call it stupid if you like, but the numbers are accurate. The typical battleship only carried about 100 rounds per gun, for the same reason.
