Agree...best to put it out there. tried beta testing it last night but can't get it to work with OLC Uber Gui.

ouch, thats not good to hear. i havent played sh3 in months and have just reinstalled the game.

the OLC mod thingy was the 1st mod i installed after gwx and LRT was gonna be the 2nd!

Sorry, I was in a rush this morning so I'd better explain in more detail. When trying to install the beta JSGME complained that the menu_1024 file (i forget the exact name) had already been modified by OLC GUI....understandably so. As this file is quite a crucial file I felt loathe to allow it to be overwritten/modified without first comparing the files. I'd rather make the changes manually than upset the OLC Gui as itys essential to how I play the game.

In short then, its possible that LRT doesn't have any adverse effects on OLC but i've not yet gone though the steps to verify that.

If there is a substantial conflict then i'm sure drifter will make an OLC compatible one...if not then i'll have a go.

So sorry if I set any alarms of prematurely.

If you compare the LRT menu_1024 file with GWX 2.1 menu_1024 file there are only about 3 minor changes. 2 font changes and a change of scroll text position.

Just copy the changes to OLC menu_1024 file. Make sure you get the right sections as they may be numbered different and then leave out LRT menu_1024 file.

Keep a backup.
It's easy, only 2 minute job.

I've tried the Lite version (Dmage and flooding increases only) and so far i like the changes. Tested in Single mission only so far, but gun damage and DC damge is a lot better now. Some 24+ hour repairs and some 30 minute repairs, but most somewhere in between the two. No more 100+ hours for all systems every time, seems very well balanced so far. I am trying a campaign now but so far no attacks on my boat.

Damn. I didn't even see the recent posts in this thread. Sorry about that everyone. Have been too busy tweaking and releasing LRT beta test versions. In the final release of LRT 2.0, I will try to include compatible versions for the OLC mod and Depth Charge Shake mod. For anyone who is interested, I will go ahead and make the latest LRT beta version open testing. Everyone, please post your opinions here after testing. Thanks. Please remember that this beta version is not complete and is for playtesting only.

You can download both regular and lite versions 1.3 beta here (for testing purposes only):

ok quick test report here. tried one of the gwx missions, and was attacked and suffered two direct bomb hits from a plane.

lots of damage was taken which looked fine, took the boat to down and settled on the bottom at 22 metres. repair times look ok and there seemed to be lots of flooding which again seems just about right considering i had just taken two direct bomb hits.

i think maybe u need to ramp up the flooding rate or something. i was able to repair all the flooding in around 45 mins and all that time i was still able to surface. those 2 bombs shouldve almost spelt the end for my sub or at the very least i shouldve taken a lot more water on so surfacing was impossible for many hours.

LRT beta v1.31 now ready for testing-

Changes in 1.31 beta:

*U-boat equipment and compartment damages should be greater in this version now, especially with surface combat*

-lowered u-boat compartment and equipment armor ratings

-increased compartment floatability numbers. Flooding will now drag u-boat down sooner to somewhat compensate for slower flood times. This was done to avoid the instant death flood screen.

Please be sure to uninstall any other versions of LRT before testing this. I feel that this test version will be one of the last and I am getting close to the official final release of LRT 2.0.

Playtesters, please report your results and opinions/suggestions. Thanks. :sunny:

That is great but will it be compatible with OLCs mods? I do not think so.

ok i tested the latest version out with a surface engagements this time. after takin at least dozen shells and takin a lot damage i dive. i expected to be in a lot of trouble but it took over 15 mins before i eventually started to slowly sink due to flooding.

would makin flooding more severe unbalance the rest of your mod?

Hmmm. :hmm: I can make the flood water heavier, thus making the u-boat sink sooner. How much compartment damage did you take? What I am trying to avoid is the flood instant death screen. Instead dying by crush depth. I dont want to make it impossible to repair light flooding before sinking too soon. Do you feel that light flooding in several compartments should start to drag the u-boat down?

i took a fair amount of compartment damage but with the number of shell hits i took the sub flooding shouldve been heavy. it felt like the sub has some leaks, whereas is shouldve been full of holes.

can u up the flooding a bit more? is it an easy process to do?

Thank you for your feedback. :yep: There won't be any more beta releases as I am now preparing to release LRT 2.0 official final version.

A big point about LRT is that it tries to avoid the instant death screens as much as possible, trying to make longer, more drawn out, uncertain deaths (or survival). Fast flooding is exciting, but along with that you get the instant deaths, too.

I do understand your feelings about this. I feel the same way. Unfortunately it's about compromises due to hard-coded files. You say flooding should have been heavier, but remember that compartment repairs take much longer now. Hours instead of minutes. Can you stay submerged for a while without sinking while trying to stop the flooding? It might be harder than you think. If your propellers or batteries get seriously damaged while you have flooding, you are probably (eventually) toast. The real big difference in LRT is flooding and possible recovery takes hours now instead of minutes.

Thank you. Hope you enjoy it once it's released. A little something I am adding to the final release of LRT- now each time when the U-boat shakes from depth charges (interior camera), there will now be a loud groaning/crashing sound. Also, when depth charges land really, really close and the shaking is very extreme, there will be some crew screaming too. I have been playing around with sound files and attaching them to other stuff. It's cool because I have figured out the correct distances for when the camera starts to shake violently, at that same time there will be a crashing and... um groaning sound of the u-boat hull under stress. The more the shaking, the louder the crashing and hull stress. And the screaming when the depth charges are unbearable. My playtesting has turned out some really wonderful results when the screaming, crashing and camera shaking are all put together. Can't wait for everyone to try it out. :sunny: Got the idea from watching Das Boot last week.

Sorry I'm late on report but had to go to hospital for hearing aids to cure my tinnitus & semi-deafness and then next day again for psoriasis treatment. I can hear a gnat fart from 30 paces now.

The 1st report (Sub Type VIB)

Took shell fire from small armed ship, damage report

Command Room 1-2 hrs
main pump ...... 1-8 hrs - repaired 2 min
fuel tank.......... 1-8hrs - repaired 2 min

Sonar/R room, Bow Quarters, Bow torpedo room & Deck Casing.. All 1-2 hrs

All repairs completed in 1hr 15min on surface (ideal conditions)

Unfortunate hull was watertight will test this next.

Conclusion
I did the repairs while at the same time moving both external torpedoes, so fatigue's no problem.
Noticed resting crew did not assist in repairs, had to use maintanance team, so the rest quarters & batteries will be harder to repair.
The crew were inexperienced in repairs. I would expect with a fully trained repair team, to more than half these repair times.

Would be nice to increase equipment times but need to test how flooding would be effected.

Sorry to hear your giving up modding, but please keep in touch, PM me anytime.

The 2nd report (Sub Type VIB)

Failed to get depthcharged so rammed small tanker, flank speed.

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/93/rammedjv0.jpg

Notice status is way different to hh/mm ..i.e. 1-8 hours 20:1203 hh/mm ....in one case.

Repairs took 20hrs on surface ideal conditions.

All the bow tubes were damaged 1-8hrs 18:1048 hh/mm - average per tube.

Fatigue was the main factor. For every 2 men on repair, 3 had to rest as backup. As fatigue is higher in Bow torpedo room then repair station, I crammed the repair team to max and only torpedo skilled in the room. This was the most efficient tactic (keeping fatigue down low).

Again, as skills improve so will times. Avoiding risks and damage early career would be advised.

Bad Wolf, thanks for the test report. I have made a few adjustments since the last test release and think you will be more satisified with surface engagements in the final version. I will probably officially be releasing LRT 2.0 in the next few days. Now I'm just trying to put the whole package together and make everything compatible.

Another update for everyone. I am delaying the release a few more days to add the depth charge camera shaking effect to all interior camera positions, including the captain's bed. No more safe refuge on the bed during depth charging! :arrgh!:

Really looking forward to your release.

I want to take this opportunity before you go to really thank you for all you've done.

I would not worked on LRT/Depthcarge Shake in the past because of modding etiquette and my respect for you. Would it be alright to continue improving the mods and including it in my mod. I will credit you as being the mods creator.

Good luck NVDrifter
