I always wanted to watch how weather changes in GWX but always had little of patience, since I'm always in TC till some action comes :) Today I was sailing through Kiel canal in bad weather but I was lucky to stop TC just after the rain stopped and sky started to look brighter. I though wow never seen such sky like that before.. :o But after some couple of minutes, the sky cleared like an eye blink. Clouds just vanished without any fade out or smthng.. :sunny:

I've played SHIII since it was released and NEVER have witnessed the weather change. Always on TC. :-?

I did once, while taking the alternative route from Trondheim to Narvik while trying to stay in the fjords, wether changed from moderately decent to can't see a thing, it's hard to see the end of the boat... which is awkward I can tell you.

It did take some time to happen though.. about 1 hour in total I think

I had another under slight TC while stalking a convoy about 8km away from it in mid atlantic, it was very foggy so i tried a surface run to get in front, to my surprise I suddenly get ship spotted messages and I see the weather clearing up, took about 5 minutes to go from medium fog to clear skies...

This also wasn't good, had 3 DDs heading my way before you could say Scheisse! Tauchen! :o

I now require hourly wether updates from my watch officer :shifty:

I'd been using the RealWeatherFix mod prior to its being incorporated into 2.1 and, overall, it seems to improve things. Before, I've sailed from Lorient to the west coast of Africa and back, all the while experiencing horrendous weather. The mod does seem to shorten the duration to a more pleasing level, but the 18 day mission from which the screenshots below were taken still had mostly 15m/s wind with heavy precipitation and very limited visibility for probably 12 or 13 of those days.

While not exactly a weather change per se, I noticed GWX 2.1 appears to have made a change in water texture during heavy weather I don't recall having seen before. When looking from abeam the sub, the water appears to have a somewhat stippled look:

A screen shot taken immediately after the one above from the six o'clock position does not show the stippled texture, nor when from from the bow:

It's funny how folks' experiences of this vary so wildly :hmm:

As for me, I've used the weather fix mod both before, and now, during GWX 2.1, and have for the most part been a happy submariner. The last 2 GWX 2.1 patrols have been particularly interesting, because I've seen lots of rough seas and clear skies at the same time. And what's more, the weather seems to change regardless of me using high TC a lot!

Would be interesting to know what causes these differences between one rig and another...

perhaps it could be the season. in autumn, there are storms most of the time, but in summer, it is clear. perhaps, a gwx team member could explain the weather in sh3. i am playing stock sh3 at the moment (for seeing what is modded in GWX), and i have storm conditions most of the time (90% of the days). i am in september 1941 now. i will check, if it will change in summer...

Congratulations Contact, as I'm sure you've already gathered, this is a rarely witnessed phenomena http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9026/wolfthumbsuprw5.gif (http://imageshack.us)
