I've been using Darth mod and AUM. The Darth mod ups the unit size a lot, a single unit (except England) will have 375 troops in one unit of line infantry!!! I've wondered why England gets smaller army units than all of the other countrys??
Somebody pointed out on this thread that their infantry is generally better. Also, IIRC, they historically generally had a smaller land army than most European countries and instead relied on their fleet for defence.
Oh, Darth mod is great BTW, at least until a proper realism/historical accuracy mod comes out.
Oh, 1000 replies for this thread
It's a great game, but the campaign settings leave a bit to be desired, and there's some quirks it seems with alliances and war being declared. I played the Brits on regular/medium setting and won pretty handily. Currently I'm playing Sweden on hard on the 100 year campaign and I achieved the goals after about 25 years. Almost all of Europe is mine (not my fault!) due to everybody and their brother declaring war on me when I had no intention of invading them.
Twice I've had trade routes set up with countries and their relation to me was 'very friendly' only to have them declare war on me out of the blue. I'm allied with United Provinces and every turn they offer a territory and some gold for 2 territories that I will not be parting with. I'm waiting for the declaration of war from them anytime now.
I almost declared war on the UP when I was attacking a territory and my army was like 1 space away from being able to siege the capital, and out of nowhere the UP came and swooped it from right under my nose. I was ticked :damn:
Side note: I really like the variety of ships in the game but at least 1/3 of them I would never use in combat. Once you have the ability to use SoL there really isn't much of a reason to use any of the frigates that come available to you.

Had a look at AUM-seems pretty good. After spending a lot of time with people who were really nit picky about uniforms (table top gamers spend 99% of their hobby time either researching or painting and 1% actually playing) I really appreciate accurate uniforms!
Seems my submarine sim time is getting pretty limited these days. I'm spending most of my gaming time on ETW!

After a long stalemate on the western front... (As you know, im playing as the marathada confederacy, we control all of russia..) We are getting nowhere... we have too little military manpower in that region and too little recources to take down sweden, and prussia.
britian has taken a region in india...
the ottoman empire has an army behind my lines... I tying to get there last 3 regions.
Back to sweden. they were at war with poland, and I was at war with russia... so russia didnt stand in there way with poland...
now they had a stockpile of troops...

Well I got bored of playing as Russia and started playing as England. And now after getting to 1800 there are four nations in Europe:Russia,Sweden, Persia,Denmark, and my long standing allies the Dutch. While India is totally under English control as are the Americas( with the execption of two native american countries and territories belonging to the Dutch.) The next target on the English Empires list is Russia. The plan is a multi-front blitz from North,South and West, they will be gone by winter 1802(maybe).:salute: and my armies will be more prepared than the "Little Corpral's" army was.!!

I've been playing a bit-daryh+aum+minor factions.
When I get bored I play as pirates-lots of ship battles and as soon as you capture somewhere with a free building slot aum's brothel / coach house lets you build the musketeers you need.
The Gulf of Mexico is my personal lake-tookover Hispaniola, Cuba and Jamaica and holding off the counter attacks as I rule the waves!

The Times June 20,1809
Special Edition
All of Britiannia Celeberates the Defeat of Russia!!!
The war that started in December of 1803 is now over today as Parliment recived news from General Duff commander of the 20th Army in a letter that "Russia is no longer a threat to the Empire. God Save the Queen." The defeat of Russia started with the capture of Moscow, followed that summer by the capture of Arkhangelsk,Norway, and Karelia.
A few years later after the destruction of smaller field armies left behind the lines to cause mayhem, the capture of Komi by an all Scots army that had also taken Arkhangelsk. Then came the fall of Tatarlya three months later. Finally on the 10th of June 1809 the last city still held by the Russians was captured. The news sparked wild celebrations across the Empire, it was even reported that the governor of New York declared that the taverns would give free beer to all citizens of New York. In London there was a grand display of fireworks and a military parade attened by the Royal Family. With an empire the extends from India across Europe to the Americas the saying "The Sun Never Sets of the English Empire", is true.

Had to ditch Darth-Bessy the laptop just can't handle the big units, smoke and all the new uniforms with AUM too.
Back to vanilla+minor factions+AUM; thinking about the US Civil War Mod....:hmmm:
Using Darth right now, and it rocks! Had a two full stack ultimate unit size vs one full stack-battle right now and there was smoke everywhere.:)
Oh, and if anybody want massive performance improvement in Empire get a Velociraptor or some other 10,000RPM HD. I bought a 300GB for OS and games, and its slightly expensive, but my oh my does it do wonders for loading and AI turns. Noisy little bugger, but very worth it so far. (It did zero for Arma 2, that game just seem to run **** no matter what I do, and my computer is pretty good)
Arclight
08-22-09, 11:37 PM
Or instead of a raptor, get 2 cheaper drives and put them in a RAID0 array. Got 2 250GB drives here, forming a 500GB array, hosting the page-file and game installs. But you'll need a decent board with RAID controller for that.
imho raptors are overpriced, noisy, hot and produce a lot of vibration (more noise). :-?

Figured it was only a matter of time before you popped in. ;)
:)
So you are saying two 7200RPM discs match a 10000RPM disc when in raid 0? If so, damn it!
(I have rubbered monting points for HDs, so not feeling/hearing the vibration bit)
Arclight
08-23-09, 05:29 AM
I can't say for certain, it's not like I did any benchmarks with both configurations. But I think moving from 7200 to 10000RPM is an incremental step, while a RAID0 theoretically doubles performance. Of course it doesn't work out like that in practice, but I still think RAID holds the advantage, both in performance and price. :hmmm:
A raid array with Raptors, now that is insane. :o :D
Maybe pick up another (identical) one of those drives in the future and give it a try. ;)
*2x WD 640GB Black edition. Beats anything but 2 VelociRaptors in RAID0, and even 1 of those drives beats the older Raptor. Tip for the budget minded. ;)
How do one set up a raid 0? I am a complete n00b at stuff like that.
Arclight
08-24-09, 01:43 AM
Well, for starters you need a MB with a HD controller that supports RAID. Then you need 2 HDs, freshly formatted and preferably identical. During boot, you can press a key or combination to get in the RAID BIOS, much like regular BIOS. There you tell it what 2 drives are to be used and set up some settings, the controller combines the 2 drives into 1, and thats'it. It'll show up as a single drive in OS.
Basically, all data is broken up into chunks (stripes) and divided across the 2 HDs. Half of a file on 1 and the other half on the 2nd. When reading and writing, data is read/written from/to 2 drives at once, so theoretically at 200% speed.
Other configs are possible with more drives for security: if 1 of the 2 drives fails in RAID0, all data is lost, because the remaining drive only contains half files. A RAID4 array for example, uses a third disk that contains the complete file, but because the results when reading from the combined drives is checked against what is on the 3rd (parity) disk, most speedbenefits are lost. RAID0 offers highest speed boost but with lowest security. There are many options available, though most consumer level controllers only support 2 or 3 levels; standard RAID levels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels)
Damn, this game is really good now. When it first launched I had a weaker computer, and the game had more bugs than Arma 1.0. Now I am really enjoying it, and with Darthmod it becomes spectacular. Its 1786 at the moment, and I am getting to that late game thingy where I have to much money and steamroll everybody, but I had a blast up until that, and caught myself thinking this game can handle being compared to Medieval 2 (maybe not Rome). When the supermods come i think this game is truly going to be epic.:yeah:
I am playing Hard/Very Hard, will try VH/VH next with a really suicidal starting point. Maybe Preussia. :)
Thanks for the pointers on RAID, Arclight!

How did this mod install? Was it an installer, or some method like with JSGME? If it was done by installer, there might be invalid stuff left over in the registry after (bad) uninstall. :hmmm:

John open up steam and RMB on Empires, click on properties, then on the local files tab.
Click on 'Verify Integrity of Game files' this will make stream check your files online and update anythang wrong.
Cant guarantee it will fix your problem, but it solves alot of corruption issues.
Good Luck.
Also you may still have the Darthmod userscript in place, the CA folder in documents is NOT deleted when you unistall empires, so you need to do that one manually.

Rough translation for people who can't understand a word of that article:
SEGA Europe announced that the 1.4 update for ETW will arrive late September. The update will affect the AI on the campaign map and in real-time battles. There are also improvements to sieges and naval battles. These will now progress more balanced, offering more immersion.
"All players of ETW will be pleased with this update because we have continuously listened to the feedback we received through our forum", says Mike Simpson, Creative Director of The Creative Assembly and the founder(?) of the Total War series. "Thanks to all the players of ETW we've been able to lay the foundation for all the fascinating content that will be released in the future." To show that the company will continue to support ETW, CA has announced that this patch will pave the way for future DLC, including the expansion pack that will be unveiled soon.

Yes I had issue with the non responsive units too, sometimes had to click twice or three times before they finally responded it would have spared me some blunders too if they did respond immediatly.
also I noticed the game freezed for a couple of seconds from time to time.
I guess that evening we had a bit of bad internet latency between us.
however I guess it wouldnt have been a desicive victory for the both of us even if we didnt have this little penalty with the sometimes non-respondive units.

Alright, here's what I've seen from the patch for now:
-Main menu, stupid advertising, hopefully modded back out soon because I can't stand the music
-Rossbach, one of Frederick the Great's greatest victories turned into some kind of boring minor skirmish
+Dragoons and Carbine cavalry are much more useful now that they can fire on the move (And the normal Dragoons get rank fire too)
+Land battle AI seems much better, I've seen them do stuff like sending a part of their troops in a decoy attack on one part of the line while taking a large infantry/cavalry group to attack the flank on the other side
+Many people say that the AI does naval invasions properly now, and say that the diplomacy is better
Didn't play a campaign yet though

The Hussars in the game are sabre cavalry (Or, in the Polish Winged Hussar's case, lancer), they don't have their pistols or carbine (As far as I know they weren't universally equipped with guns)
Carbine cavalry and Light Dragoons aren't the same either, Light Dragoons have longer range guns now and can dismount to act like regular light infantry

Yes I agree with you Shogun has the best music of all. The cutscenes are still the best in all TW series. Now cutscenes are goofy and feel more like a comedy.
But instead of bringing back the old cutscenes they better make even a much better ones.
Just imagine the current engine to model a fully armored samurai with his katana and martial art moves :wah:
I second that too!! I miss my lovely Geisha who killed all my enemies with her hair needle ... :88)
I don't mind a little soft porn for Geisha cutscene in Shogun II Total War :O:

Apparently the aweful menu is an advertisement and also apparently 'temporary'
There are a number of you who dislike the new Warpath menu screen, it was implemented temporarily in order to let everyone know that a new DLC was coming shortly. Whilst those of you who read the forums regularly and follow Total War developments (thank you) will be aware of the expansion, many players at home will not. The menu screen is a good way of letting those players know that an expansion is coming and that it'll be of a native american theme.
New multiplayer maps in 1.5
• Grassy Flatlands - This is a flat, balanced map designed for competetive/tournament play.
• Austrian Pinnacles - A maze like European landcape with plenty of opportunities to outflank and maneuver around your opponent(s).
• Syrian Ridge - A desert map with several oasis scattered around and a large sandy hill near the centre to dominate the opposition.
• Siberian Plateau - A balanced flat snowy tundra map, heavily forested to allow for ambush and conealed fighting.
• Homestead - An American plains map with several cabin dwellings and low rolling hills with oportunities to seize elevated positions.
Hope these maps make more sense than the stock maps...

There's an advisor thingy when you start a campaign (Enabled when you start a campaign in the 'Gameplay Options' screen, though it should be on by default) that tells you all sorts of stuff. Also, the first parts of the Road to Independence campaign are also sort of tutorials.
Generally, the game is much simpler than the earlier TW games, upgrading things usually only requires clicking on them and upgrading to a better version or opening the research screen and picking something.
EDIT: Oh, yeah, and what he said.

I have been playing through the North American campaign. Those Brits sure get fussy when I jack up the taxes on them to build the Royal Navy. But I had to teach those Frenchies who's boss of the high seas. :smug:
Man, it took all day to wear down the French and capture their capital. I would get a big army built, and the people would start rioting, so I had to throw the army into battle to cut costs.

Yes, fences and walls block projectiles, not sure about trees but your infantry should be harder to spot in the woods, so they help, especially for light infantry.
Upgrading your capital, click on it and look on the bottom, you have a list of structures you can upgrade.
The research panel is in one of the smaller buttons on the bottom-right corner in the campaign map.

click on that icon for the Research panel.
to explain how that works -
for research you need a school (if you start a campaign by default you have one in the province)
you get more school when taking over a enemy province that has one.
or when towns in your provinces grow and you get the option to upgrade that town with a Church, School, Weaver's cottage or (forgot it's name but increases people's happiness)
when you build schools it spawns Gentlemen's once in a while, which you can put into these school to increase the Research rate (takes less turns to research something).
with these Gentlemen you can also go out and go to enemy school and try to steal a technology or duel with the enemy's gentlemen (this gives you a quiet fun video)
hope that explains the research a bit.

Yup, that would be the case. From my own experience and the way I play, I've been good with just 2 schools. One to research infantry tactics and the other to whatever I feel like at the time, usually the economic stuff. If you're mainly fighting on land, you dont need to get better units as you go = no need for über economy. Just get the fire by rank/line stuff researched and your regular troops will mow down the enemy as if they had MG42s. :salute:
Yeah, I usually research land combat stuff and alternate between the industrial stuff along the way. I find the naval battles incredibly boring so I dont bother with that at all. I also try to steal as much research from other nations` schools as possible with gentlemen.:)

Had a short war with my own protectorate, and now I get dragged in to war with Spain thanks to Austria. Then there was the Battle of Cartagena between my fleet and a full stacked Spanish fleet. Here are the resualts, Spain Deployed 20 ships, lost 9, killed 3 enemy ships and had 11 ships captured, remaining 0. My France campaign is getting really interesting.
pretty much due half the globe is in war with me.
My Goal was -
Europe:
Not to go on the offensive against the German States or Britain.
secure borders and keep a good relation with my Ally Spain.
America:
take over some of the provinces from the Native tribes in the North and move myself South towards my Protectorate Louisiana.
I was to take over some provinces so Louisiana would fall under my control
now, what happend:
Europe:
Soon it was clear that the German states where not going to stay at peace soon Whestphalia, Wurtenberg and Prussia declared war on me.
Whestphalia went on the offensive and was pushed back and eventually to eliminate the threat I took over their only capital and Whestphalia was history. Same fate to Wurtenberg.
Prussia made one attempt by attacking me in the Rhineland province but their attack was halted and they retreated.
United Province attacked me twice in Rhineland untill I sieged Amsterdam and took it after 2 fierce battles. still the province is rebelling from time to time.
meanwhile in America:
Thing wheren't going as fast as I hope due that the natives put up quiet a resistance but also I got myself into War with Britain, it got me some territorial gains on the westcoast but to avoid that britain starved my trade I had to get myself a peacetreaty with them.
Eliminated 2 Native tribes from History which threatent me from the North and East and was moving to the south to get the last province so Louisiana would join my empire.
but then back in Europe:
My king died and Austria declared a war of succesion on my as it didn't aprove my new heir to the throne the son of the died king, which pulled Bavaria in a war with me too. Sweden who was a ally at the time pulled out of the alliance and stayed at peace but wouldn't help me.
so far nothing happen from Austria's side as they seemed to be kept busy with the Ottomans and Poland-Lithuania.
and now the worst part:
Spain declared war on Louisiana, and together with Britain they gobbled up Northen Louisiana (by the British) and Southern Louisiana (by the Spanish) and there goes my protectorate....
those Spanish traitors!
I immediately lay siege on Flanders who was still in Spanish Controle while Bavaria invaded me with a large army and took Rhineland who was poorly protected at the time.
I'm now having a siege at Rhineland with half my forces from United provinces I took flanders from the Spanish and have to worry about the Southern part of France as it's pretty much unprotected I will try with diplomatic manners to force Spain into a peace so I can by myself time to secure the North-West of Europe and protect my South.
Vive la France!

After you get everything stright in the east... id just take over spain... you still have military access... march your army down there... get outside there capital, break your alliance and declare war on them... once you do that, they are not as strong as they were in europe... there ships have no docks and they have no ports to there capitals (once you take over all of continental spain, and there itilian and med. stuff...)
and once you kick them out of europe there colonys in the americas turn to rebels, who have little to no armys.

My goal was to remove the Spanish from all regions north of Panama (great natural choke point). But after kicking them out, they would not agree to peace & kept raiding my shipping lanes. So I took them out completely. They were holding France, so I gave that region back to the French (my allies).
I guess the British saw that as a threat, because then they declared war on me, and they came to play. I had to defeat them in NA, and decided wth, maybe it was time to finally invade the British. So I conquered that little island to the left of Britian, and then it was pretty easy to conquer the rest of their main island, it is pretty small.
Of course, there are Brits all over the globe, in India and N. Africa, so I waited and waited but again, no peace. So I took them out.
Now I am fighting with Austria, and Russia and Martha declared war on me, even though I have been kissing up to them with regular state gifts.... Prussia decide not to be my ally, only the French are with me. It's not looking good, Russia and Martha are the other two main powers, besides the US and Austria. And Austria is a handful, they have 8 stacked armies...but all in the north. I am sending a force through the Balkans next...
Meanwhile, many of my cities are starving. Why? I have set all taxes to zero, and the regions are all fully developed.... is there any way to get more food in there? I do not see how to create new farms. I have demoed the trade ports in several places and replaced with fisheries... any suggestions?

Neal if any of your buildings have a golden spanner above them they can be upgraded.
Or then ETW has the same issue as RTW & MTWII had. If you have biiiig cities and their population keeps on growing you will encounter problems with sanitation and food. :hmmm: In other words, your cities have grown too large for the game.
PS. I havent myself encountered this problem with any of the games, but I keep hearing about it every now and then.

my goal in europe....
1 kick the french and spanish out... im currently chokeing the french, Ive taken over paris, and am thinking of how to get flanders (wish the dutch would help.) and savoy which they took over... eventualy push the spanish out of western europe...
In the americas I lost rupters land to the natives, but have taken over florida... I have 2 plans...
1 take over the cherokee... they might get agressive if I do plan 2...
plan 2 attack spain and lousiana... get there teritorys...
my main issue is money... and keeping my units full... Im gonna test out the waters in the trade theatres... if I have too many enemys Ill pull out, if not im staying.
other issues it that the populace attitude in paris... is very low, Ive had it take over a decade to get them happy before...

Yeah, I know about those. I check for them but I don't get them anymore. Is there a "list" of areas waiting to be upgraded? The advisor chick usually tells me about one each turn, if there is one available.

December, 1702 The Battle of Flanders. The first Dutch Army under the command of Hendrick van Nassau-Ouwerkerk invades the Spanish held territory of Flanders, the declaration of war with Spain of course the Frogs declare war on the United Provances in support of the Spainish.
The battle begins with a Dutch artillery battery on the Spanish solders.

A farmhouse that the Spainish troops used for cover is reduced to rubble by the 24 gun battery.

Finally the Spanish realize that running back and fourth isn't going to win this battle so they start to send troops foward, and what do they send? PIKEMAN!!!!:har:Who are soon running in the other direction.

So after most of the Spanish forces retreat theres only one regiment of firelock armed citizenry and one regiment of artillery.

July, 1703 The Battle of Paris. At the onset of war with Spain, the French side with Spain and declare war on the United Provences. After the victory at Flanders the First Dutch Army still under the command of Hendrick van Nassau-Ouwerkerk advances on Paris. The French have a large welcoming commity waiting for the Dutch forces.
The battle begins with the French running around like chickens with their heads cut off and getting blow to bits by the Dutch cannons.

The French manage to form two battle lines but don't advance so the Dutch artillary continues its bombardment.

Now the French start to advance only after a building that a French regiment was using for cover was destroyed by the Dutch artillery.Which is seen on the left flank burning.

Poland has gave up and we are at peace (pushed into just 3 regions now, rather small... but russia is starting to scare me... (they have been quiet...)

You can retreat an AI battle by deploying your troops on the far side and ordering an immediate retreat (Hunter did this a few times in our campaign when he decided that the AI-assembled army was insufficient for besieging my cities. Bah, coward). You can also normally retreat your own armies.

I was not too thrilled about NTW when it was first announced, but, looking at the new trailers (http://www.totalwar.com/napoleon/gallery/videos.php) and info, it seems that much of my problems with Empire are being corrected.
A few things I notice is that they show Winter attrition (A feature sorely missing from ETW), the maps obviously have many more provinces, turns are apparently 2 weeks (I see Early/Late, Month, Year). The maps also seem bigger to me, looking at the minimap, and the units are clearly not as bland and generic as they were in ETW.

I haven't played this in a few weeks, but to you who know the series well and know all the opinions about this game, a couple questions, sirs:
When the game was released, what was the general opinion of the media?
What was the opinion of most players?
I ask because, I went into this series knowing nothing about it, other than seeing some hype on a magazine cover about it last year. I got the game as a gift, and I thought it was freakin' fantastic. I noticed a small detail here and there that I thought could be better, but overall, it rocked.
That's the opinion of a Total War noob, me. Now, the reason I ask is because there are Subsim guys like us, who judge Dangerous Waters, PT Boats, and Silent Hunter 3/4/5 on our scale, and we make up, say 5% of the total sales (an example, I do not know the actual percentage).
Then there are the remaining 95% who judge subsims on their scale, like me and ETW. I wonder, are we too critical and unrealsitic? Or, do our demands keep the series improving?

an example of how it changed a MP match... hunter, raptor, and I V the ai.
well, awhile back we use to play ETW me. one day we started up a naval battle, to see how this thing worked...
everyone got 3 ships of the line, and 3 smaller ships.
The Mod made a huge difference, battles use to last 30 mins maby, but this one went on for over and hour and 30 mins, around 2 hours...
at the end, there were only 2 ships still running, I had 1 and raptor had 1, hunter had gotten in the center of the battle, and was sunk...
Every other ship was ither sunk, blew up (powder bunker) or surrenderd...
I think we posted about it awhile back, I will take alook.

No, IIRC they promised it would be a patch after release, and so it is...
I was reading a readme thread for patch 1.4 (what is the latest?).
It explained some stuff about ships that was disheartening.
Ships of the Line are slower. less maneuverable and and less accurate with gunfire while frigates are faster. more maneuverable and more accurate, and small ships (sloops, etc) are faster, more nimble, and even more accurate.
They clearly don't have a care for accuracy. A SOL should be a BETTER gun platform IMO, certainly not a worse platform. Speed? Again, smaller ships are certainly going to accelerate faster and be more nimble. They can also sail closer to the wind. As for the ultimate speed? No, the smallest craft (for and aft rigged) might be faster in most wind conditions, but running large with the wind (particularly a light wind), I'm not at all sure a SOL could not keep up with a frigate or anything else. Sailing is complicated.
At the very least their accuracy of gunfire needs serious modding, the LEAST accurate ships should be the small ones. Bigger means more accurate and a higher weight of metal thrown into the bargain. Handling sounds like at least the order of ships is right, speed? The range of top speeds should not be very large, IMO. COurse it should be entirely dependent on the wind speed and point of sail.
I bought it yesterday. After some Steam issues (I figured it out after some good forum FAQ crap, but it was by no means turnkey, frankly) I got it running. AFter a brief naval battle or two I immediately looked for naval mods (darthmod lite so far) to fix the horrible sailing. On top of that, IMO the ships move too fast.
From the look of it, you control the speed by setting sail. The wind seems an afterthought to the game. Speeds in the game seem overly high to me in general, the naval battles are at normal speed in "fast forward." In RL, with battle sails set (top'sls, etc, no courses) they've be creeping around at maybe 3-4 knots. Walking speed.
Needs to slow down a lot, IMO, everything is too responsive.
Still, pretty cool for screwing around, and my son likes seeing naval battles (he can reproduce them with his fleet of playmobil ships (yeah, I had to buy him enough to have small engagements :) )
All the speeds seem grossly fast. From the discussions of the naval mods, they set the max speeds properly, but I think they forget that time is grossly accelerated. Same is true for land battles. Things that should take hours to evolve take minutes.
Makes it rather too twitchy. If you slow time down, then the animations are slow.

No, IIRC they promised it would be a patch after release, and so it is...
Umm I believe they mention MP campaign before release and I read somewhere when it wasn't on release it was promised to be given as part of patch . . . .
I missed the beta now no MP campaign for me :hmmm:
Well I'm not that angry just kind of upset...because I feel I've been mislead with false information.

what mod are you useing... and how many ships in total?:hmmm:
I just put darthmod in.
It's far better than stock (ships appear to slow and even stop into the wind), but they accelerate fast, under easy sail they are almost always making near what I imagine to be top speed.
I could park a ship of known length, then use a stopwatch to calculate the speed. I was thinking in general, though. Things seems to happen quite fast even on land.
The worst thing about the naval stuff is boarding and collisions. Ships don't ever seem to foul, and even a head-on at speed doesn't send anyone's masts by the boards. I also have yet to see a naval engagement in anything but blue water—no terrain, lee shores, etc.
Oh, and ships sink far too easily and fast, IMO.

hmm, would you like for me to sent you the mod... it fixes the ships sinking fast, increases hull strength... (adds some new ships also.)
Which one is it? The rebel fleet thing? I saw that one. I DLed a few but have not tried them yet.

There's a mod called 'Naval Mod', it's somewhere deep in the TWC forums.
The large 'DarthMod Ultimate Commander Edition' pack should include it as well.
@Castout - Are you sure you can't sign up for the beta right now? The signup page is still there...

Yea I got it Now to find someone to play with probably at the weekend :hmmm:
So I tried to use modmanager to enable another naval mod while disabling darthmod.
Crashed. Removed new mod. Reenabled darth. Crashed. Now I can only start it up vanilla.
Great.
Turns out Steam autopatched it and broke everything. Odd, I checked steam right away and it iddn't have todays date in there for recent patches.

There's a new patch announced, BTW. They say they're improving the BAI...
BAI is Battlefield AI? CAI is Campaign AI?
