Ahem:hmm:, the GWX manual is a pdf-file. You should install the adobe reader (which is on your SH3 disc) to read the manual

Yes it should look like this. The manual is in PDF format (i.e. something like printer language) and there is no reason why it should be opened with Notepad. Therefore the error you're getting is perfectly normal
Hm, I wonder whether notepad tries to present some ascii arts to make up for the images a pdf viewer would be able to present :hmm:

If you have Adobe Reader but the manual opens in Notepad?
Reset the file associations.
And I haven't seen a problem yet I won't touch!

Only when you look at target in periscope you CTD?
Give me install details Please.
You rolled back ALL JSGME or 2.1 would not install.
You rolled back SH3 Commander?
2.1 WILL install even if not rolled back because it was deemed to system intensive
to assure the correct install of SH3 Commander was rolled back.
Your not trying to use a 2.0 Career?
Those may or may not fly.
No promises, no guarantees!!!
DETAILS MAN!!

The Devil is in the details!!!

Did uninstall and all install fresh this way.
) Uninstall SH3 USING THE GAME DISK if you have one. (You will need to create a fresh
installation of SH3 to assure stability.)
2) Verify that the "SH3" folder in "My Documents" has been DELETED. If it has not,
delete it manually.
3) Reboot your PC
4) Reinstall SH3 and patch to version 1.4b if your disk does not already contain the
version 1.4b patch.
5) Reboot your PC again
6) Install GWX 2.0 as described here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...44&postcount=1
Once you have a properly installed copy of SH3 1.4b with GWX 2.0 you are ready for the next simple sequence.
A) Create a new folder on your desktop and label it "GWX 2.1 Update"
B) Download the "GWX21 Update.exe file to the folder you just created on your desktop.
C) Turn your speakers up!
D) Double click the GWX21.exe file and follow the directions that appear.
Haven't installed SHC 3.0 yet.

Well I guess it's off to flight and raceing sims for me.
Sorry to say there's more bugs here than a skid row flop house.

Interesting comment. I followed the instructions and have been happily playing with no problems at all. I would say the "Bugs" are all at your end, not with GWX.

Hmm, since you're the only one of hundreds of people playing GWX 2.1 it's a bit arrogant to say that your problem is a bug. The GWX team tried to polish their final release as much as possible and still people cry "bug" on the first problem that occurs.
I had a problem myself with my new GWX 2.1 install because the micky mouse voice bug from stock SH3 was suddenly back. I searched a little bit, reinstalled and noticed that i haven't put the S3Commander files for GWX 2.1 in the appropriate folders.
It's pretty lazy coming to the forums, writing "There's a bug" and getting off to other games, because there' no one who can solve your problem for you.

Well I hope you enjoy the Flight and Racing Sims more than GWX and you have no problems with your computer.
As far as the CTDs you're talking about since nobody else is reporting them it means there must be something wrong with your system. What I would suggest is to totally uninstall SH3/GWX and reinstall it. This might fix the problem. If that doesn't work then there is not much more I can suggest.
Good Luck

Hello Firewall,
since you have quite some posts here i cannot believe you give up ;)
What i did when encountering all kinds of problems:
1. Deinstall.
First deinstall GWX, SH3 commander, mods, what ever shows up in your software list.
For the final de-installing of SH3 use your SH3 disk, put it in the DVD player, and when the installation menu pops up, deinstall from here (!). If it does not pop up automatically run the autostart.exe or what's it called in the main directory of the dvd.
Go to system settings/software and look if the SH3 uninstall entry is still present here - if yes, click on it, and it should vanish.
Delete the start menu entries manually, they will still be there.
Go into the C:\programs\ubisoft folder and delete the SHIII folder from here. It would not let me delete it without some enforcing lol. Not sure what happened there, but i finally got rid of it.
You can also delete the Ubisoft folder, but not if Silent hunter IV is installed ... ;) .
Then delete the SH3 folder in MyFiles.
If there are still remnants from GWX or any mods in some folders, hunt them down, delete them all.
Run "regedit" from the execute window.
Search for "Silent Hunter", and delete all entries that have a 3 behind it - not 4 if you also have Silent hunter IV installed. Also look for "SH3" - there might be some, but look closely if it is not an entry belonging to another program - you will easily see it.
You do NOT have to delete the SH3 settings of any Nvidia folder, since those are standard settings for SH3 that came with the Nvidia driver to adjust special settings, and automatically load them when you start the game. If you have an ATI card or whatever this may or may not apply for those also.
Close regedit and reboot.
2. Shut down your firewall and any Antivirus software, as well as any other programs that may be running by autostart or whatever.
If you now install SH3 alone this should work without problem, and you can install the 1.4 patch right after it.
Now you should run the game (DVD in tray) once - you will be asked to enter the code, and the sim will start.
Play a single mission or start a campaign to test if all works, SH3 will now install some further directories after the initial start.
If all works there is no problem with the vanilla install of SH3, and you can be sure of that.
Leave the game. If all works, make a copy of the SH3 directory (spares another install if anything goes wrong now).
Install GWX the way you posted above, and just to make sure restart the Computer.
Sorry if you did exactly that, i have no other idea then.
Good luck, keep us informed, and greetings,
Catfish
