also before sunrise...
can anyone help me with this problem?
after noticing this i upgraded to the latest drivers and it didn't help. i have TMO, RSRD, and PE, but it happens no matter what mods i have installed:
Radeon HD 2600 PRO

it happens in stock, and i've tried other mods as well, any help please?
This has to do with the z buffer rendering in the HD series cards. Fixing this is a fairly simple workaround which requires editig the scene.dat file.
I had a fix for earlier versions fo ROW posted, but haven't updated it because W_Clear and Kriller2 are making so many changes to their mods.
If wanted, I'll post a short tutorial on this over the weekend.

ATi must have fixed it in the 3xxx series, cause I don't get that effect in my 3650, be it stock or Kriller's scene.dat :hmm:
I also had this effect happen to me, and i too am using the Radeon HD 2600 Pro card.
After recently downloading new drivers from their website this effect/error? has seemed to stop:up:

Having the same problem her but it was only after installing PE that I had this problem as I don't have a HD card its an NVIDIA Gefore Go 7200 for my laptop.
Any instructions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Have been tied up over the weekend with RFB stuff. Will get a post out tonight at the earliest and Tuesday night at the latest.
Apologies for the delay.

that's not the sun...It's the Natualis!!! Cpt.nemo is pissed!
funny i have a 2600XT and ive never seen this prob...
This was a workaround I found for the sun shining through the water.
Because the problem is due to the texture applied to the sun being rendered, the idea was to find a way to stop this from happening.
Please note, this does reduce the color effects to a degree during sunrise and sunset when the sun is below the horizon, but the colors are still very good.
If you are using any of the environmental mods, you will need to do this with each update you download.
First, get S3D also known as Silent 3ditor
Next. Make a backup of your scene.dat file. Now, open the scene.dat file with S3D. This is located in Silent Hunter 4/Data folder.
Refer to this drawing for the next couple of steps.

Go to 6: Node-Sky and expand that list (+) sign
Go to Parameter 13. Envsim. Expand EnvSim and then click on Properties. You'll see a list of parameters in the right box.
Scroll down to Sky[13] and expand that. This is where the entries are made.
Look at the following pictures for the next step.
http://www.kickinbak.com/posts/change.jpg
Expand each entry unitl you find the entry where the sun is at -15 degrees. The reason I chose this is due to the disc of the sun being visible above above the horizon at -9 degrees.
Now change the SunRelativeSize value to 0
Do this for each entry below - 15 degrees.
Save the changes and play the game to test the results.
Additional notes:
Depending on the scene.dat file you are using (PE2, EE4, stock) you may need to tweak the SkyTextureIndex value and set it to ) sooner than the file has it.
You can do some fine tuing by changing the SunAltitudeAngle and moving the angles at -9 and -15. That's just personal preference.
Good luck

i tried swdw, and there's absolutely no change for me, i even changed the sun size at -9 to 0 and it still happens like i did nothing... just as a note (maybe it's a different problem) i can see the sun through ANYTHING, crew members, conning tower, clouds...
i appreciate the help
it's one of those things that now that i've noticed it, it drives me INSANE... lol
*edit* okay i messed around, and now here's how it looks:
this is with angle at -4 and below, size set to 0

Bummer, I don't know what to tell you, this fix worked for me. It only worked for the water issue because the texture size was 0. Everything else is caused by the z buffer issue, which would require a fix from ubi or ATi.
The 8.4 drivers are now out for the ATi cards. Try them if you have an earlier version.
