Just wondering, How exactly does the Kaiten work?

Must've taken a wrong turn in Albuquerque :rotfl:
can we have some screen shots of the Kaiten, can't wait to see it. How many riders etc...

as of now it only looks like a normal accoustic torpedo but has all the specs of a kaiten regarding range, speed, and explosive. I am trying to get the torpedo 3d to be replaced by that of the midget sub which is close to a kaiten in shape, then I'll need info to be able to tweak the way the torp searches for targets.

I took it easy to see how it would behave : I ambushed a friendly convoy on route to Manilla ! I targeted one of the ships 3000 yards away (max 22 km remember), then opened the tube and fired a kaiten torpedo.
It went straight for a long while, then when I thought it was gonna pass ahead of the target ship, a medium size freighter, it suddenly veered to the left, towards the ship, It went striaght for a little while, then veered sharply to the right as the hull of the ship came in view, crept up behind it and hit the screws ! There was a huge splash, then explosions coursed through the ship as she finally broke up in two and sank.

Cool. Did you set up the firing solution like a normal torpedo or did you fire blindly into the general direction?

Commander Mochitsura Hashimoto interrogation in box 13 of Submarine/Undersea Warfare Division, Series III, Operational Archives Branch, Naval Historical Center :
http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq30-8.htm
18. [Question] Did you have torpedoes aboard equipped with exploders of any other type? Why didn't you use them?
[Answer] There were no torpedoes of any other exploder-type aboard. All were combination magnetic and impact, except the KAITENS which were impact only.
60. [Question] Under what conditions were human torpedoes used? How many did each submarine carry? Was the operator expendable?
[Answer] Human torpedoes were used if target was out of range of other torpedoes and sometimes in order to avoid detection. Big subs carried 6 human torpedoes; 300-Type carried 3; I-Type carried 2. The operator was 100% expendable. KAITENS were about 1/3 successful. Hashimoto's only success with them was on the I-58 which sank a U.S. escort carrier (converted) near Guam in January 1945. He observed through the periscope that one hit out of the four launched.

Went hunting from penang in pouring down rain... had to sink 10000 t... crossed the path of a convoy, far away, fired one at 10 km, another at 7km, the last two at around 5 km, three hits ! sunk one T3 tanker 11336T one old medium tanker 3019T one small split freighter 2429 T. although I didn't see the hits, I saw the torpedoes, fired on a convoy bearing only, veer at the last minute towards their target.. now it's time for home :D lousy wheather..

It seems that you're way-too-small Kaitens are a lot more successful then the real ones we're...

look at my post above : the interrrogation of Commander Mochitsura Hashimoto, a famous japanese sub ace. The fact that I used a typ V as a base is maybe why they work so well.. wait until we can mod a playable midget sub and redo Pearl Harbor... Untill then, maybe I should make them more expensive..
btw the fact that they had little success is partly due to their poor training of their crews..

Who is the brave skipper who wants to get into this torpedo and take a ride :hmm: :88) ???

I rather go out with a bang than miss my target and either suffocate, sink from loss of propulsion or having to surface (was this possible?) in the middle of the ocean with no hope of being picked up, and/or being shot at...
And what about prematures??? :88)
